We’re all just really happy to be playing. We’ve been a band for a long time now and we’re all just really, really good friends. It’s kind of like almost we can’t quite believe that we are allowed to, you know, to do this! We get to play together every night, so yeah, it’s really fun, actually.
You have to almost get yourself into a trance. I don’t know how that happened with me, specifically. It’s like you have to completely give yourself over to the song, and to the moment. It’s almost like you don’t even dictate what’s going to happen.
What’s good about performances, is when you have your songs in a studio, is like you’re stuck with them and your feelings. Sometimes when I was recording the songs for How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, it was sad and agonizing because it was just me speaking to me, the songs become your talismans, they become your little charms and you need them to keep you safe and sane, but is just you versus you all the time.
I’ve got quite a vivid imagination and I’m easily overwhelmed by sensations and things that are beautiful or scary. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ghost - I think I’m probably haunted by my own ghosts than real ones.
“…the elemental signs for air and water. It’s the idea of being between two worlds. Like the water from Ceremonials and the air of How Big, How Blue. I felt that How Big, How Blue was a way of getting out of the depths of something into the sky.” - Florence Welch
