i thought i read the book before but i was wrong

if i had read the martian before i definitely would have been chattering on and on about how excited for the movie i was cause tbh this is a damn good story, film looks and ridley scott be damned or not

gotta tell you it’s really fun picturing the actors instead of thinking up faces for all the characters, esp seb omg what a small bab that beck is

I don’t know what living a balanced life feels like
When I am sad
I don’t cry I pour
When I am happy
I don’t smile I glow
When I am angry
I don’t yell I burn
The good thing about feeling in extremes is
When I love I give them wings
But perhaps that isn’t
Such a good thing cause
They always tend to leave
And you should see me
When my heart is broken
I don’t grieve
I shatter

Reading is even better with a cat 🐱

We’re excited to co-host a very special event with Vir of London on the 16th July featuring Rupi Kaur and an incredible array of artists!

Come and hear Rupi Kaur give a live performance of her works, accompanied by artists from the UK and Canada, including Kiran Rai ‘KayRay’ and Keerat Kaur. The night will conclude with a chance to meet Rupi and the artists personally along with a book signing and light refreshments and drinks. Books will be available for purchase on the evening or you can bring along your own to be signed.

40% of the proceeds from the event will go towards two brilliant charities, Binti and Happy to Help

So grab your tickets on the event page here before they go and spread the word about this exclusive opportunity!

We can’t wait to see you there :)

“A Baby For Pree” scene from my novel

“I can carry a tune; carry it inside me, that is; we’re all born knowing how to do that. There’s a lot of people in this world who want to store up sublime beauty all for themselves and not let anybody have it, but actually–if they so much as leave a window open they might let a few strains of a Mozart sonata escape, and it might worm its way into the head of some little child in the street who can hardly read, and they might whistle it into dive bars and coal mines and there! There is the revolution, darlings! The thrill between chords is democratic and rapture doesn’t care who you are. Oh–hold my hand, love. There’s a lot of sound going through me–there’s a lot of life happening in here!”

Nathan Larson's "Cloud Hunter" Featured By Moleskine

I recently had the pleasure of working with Moleskine and Milk Books to create a limited edition book entitled Cloud Hunter.  The collection of photographs are all from a particular river valley on the border of New Hampshire and Vermont and I hope they capture a sense of space and inspire exploration.

Check out the Moleskine featured artist post here or look at Cloud Hunter online here–including a full digital preview. of the book.

It’s GLBT Book Month and our Central Library Youth Wing librarians are on it. Their book displays for kids and teens are full of a rotating cast of excellent books with significant gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender content. Here are several of the great booklists they’ve put together alongside the displays:

(And for even more titles, there’s americanlibraryassoc‘s GLBT Round Table’s 2015 Rainbow List!)

We’d be completely holding out on you, Tumblr, if we didn’t show you some of the amazing mini-posters all over the place with inspiring and encouraging quotes from LGBTQ heroes and allies, like this one:

Oh, and this one:

If you can’t get enough of these (we cannot) you can find a whole bunch more at our very own Magpie Librarian’s blog – they’re all hers, and lucky you, she’s offering them up for you to steal with credit!
