He only glanced away for a second, distracted by the loud thunder
clap and the looming charcoal clouds overhead.
His eyes settle on the spot where Theodore is sitting, only he’s no longer
there. Frantically his eyes sweep over the park, the few kids nearby on
the swing set, the adults sitting on the benches watching but he can’t see him
anywhere, he’s gone.
He starts running, and calling his name-
“Theodore,” Mike yells, bolting upright in bed, shaken by his third bad dream this week.
“Mike?” Harvey asks, pulling himself up and wrapping his arms around Mike’s sweaty body. “What was it this time?”
Mike took large gulps of air, nestled against Harvey’s chest while he shushed him. He didn’t want to talk about it, but the stupid dreams just kept happening.
“Same dream, I lost our baby, only this time it was at the park,” he blurted, untangling himself from Harvey and snuggling back down under the warmth of the covers.
Harvey joined him, nuzzling against him and placing a soft bite beside his nipple. His breathing was still fast, but his face had relaxed, and he looked thoughtful.
“Maybe I should google what the dream means?” He asked Harvey seriously.
Harvey looked perplexed. “People do that?”
“Sure,” he replied reaching for his phone.
“Give me that,” Harvey demanded, grabbing the phone from him, “I’ll play Dr Google.”
“Fine, but don’t think I haven’t noticed that you always get to play the Dr!” Mike teased, feeling the tension leave his body.
A minute later, Harvey was humming as if agreeing with the internet’s diagnosis. Mike shot him an impatient look.
“Well, it says that dreaming that you’ve lost your baby may be referring to your inner child and that you need to take care of yourself, be kinder to you, blah blah blah. Or, here it mentions a project being your baby, honestly though Mike it sounds like a bunch of crap,” he said putting the phone on the bedside table. He shuffled across the sheets and threw his leg over Mike.
“You’ve only been having these dreams since you went and saw ‘The Boss Baby’ with Jenny on the weekend, you know? The baby in your dream wasn’t wearing a suit was he?” Harvey prodded him and flicked his nipple, grinning at him affectionately.
Mike sighed and pulled Harvey on top of him, the weight of his body grounding him into the now, “Maybe you’re right,” he agreed, nipping at Harvey’s neck, “maybe I just need to be distracted?“ He added cheekily.
"Now that, I don’t need google for,” Harvey gloated, lacing his fingers in Mike’s and kissing him gently on each eyelid. Mike tilted his chin until Harvey’s lips found his.
He loved the way Harvey kissed him, it was like he was the last breath Harvey would ever take, and he drank him in and delighted in every second of it. Mike wanted everything with this man, and that’s when the thought struck him. He pulled away, receiving a moan of loss as Harvey opened his eyes and frowned down at him.
“What’s going on?” Harvey asked with genuine concern, hands squeezing Mike’s as reassurance.
Mike looked up at the love of his life and whispered, “Maybe I’m dreaming of babies because I want us to have one?”
Harvey beamed back at him “Then we should absolutely have a conversation about that, because I’m not getting any younger, and I don’t want to be called pops by my kids!”
Mike grinned. “I said one, Harvey,” he joked, kissing Harvey on the nose.
“Oh I know what you said, but I also know you. No way would you be able to stop at one!” Harvey chuckled, kissing him sweetly on the cheek.
“Let’s go out for brunch later, and we can discuss the when and the how,” Harvey proposed, pulling the sheet up over them. “Right now, I have some wants of my own,” he whispered into Mike’s ear as he pressed his body against him. Syncronised moans spilling from their lips.
Just a quick (lol jk) overview of S18, now that it’s finally over, and some wishes for S19. I just had to put this post together, to properly leave S18 behind.
Character Progression in Season 18
She started off the season in a happy relationship, freshly back from a Paris vacation. She ended the season single af. Nothing else changed. Her professional life is exactly the same, and her personal life consists of Lucy practically living in her house.
He started off the season doing nothing. He ended the season also doing nothing. The only thing that changed was a suspension on his record, for something that happened decades ago, and the further deterioration of his career. The promising storyline of his death threats was dropped, and we still know absolutely nothing about his personal life.
He started off the season as a recently licenced attorney who was doing job interviews for ADA positions. That was never mentioned again, same as his law degree and career aspirations. He ended the season as just another cop. He is the only character with a positive development in his personal life, as he was briefly revealed to be dating someone who’s a 34B.
She started off the season living with baby Jesse and Frannie, she got a (temporary?) houseguest in the form of her sister Kim, and now I guess she’s Kim-less again (which is her loss). Absolutely nothing else happened in her life, personal or professional.
Hestarted off the season wanting to become a Sergeant. He is the only character with a positive development in his professional life, as he passed the Sergeant’s exam. He did not, however, end the season as a Sergeant. He’s still a detective, badge and all, and he has not yet been “appointed” a Sergeant. The promising storyline of his son having a baby was dropped, so no Grandpa Fin for us.
To summarize: Liv is single, Sonny is not single, and Fin is almost a Sergeant. That’s all.
Now let’s compare that to, say, Season 17.
Character Progression in Season 17
She started off that season alone, and she ended it in a happy relationship with Tucker. That relationship was tested, and it also put a delicious strain on her friendship with Barba, though both of those problems were thankfully resolved. She had to assert herself with Mike Dodds, who was the Chief’s son-slash-plant, as well as a Sergeant who was hellbent on proving his worth, sometimes even undercutting her authority. She showed Mike who was boss, he fully accepted her as his superior, and then he died, leaving her to deal with his loss and the blame, which she thought fell on. Liv was tested as a leader, as a friend, as a romantic partner, and as a mother, and she came out wounded, but on top.
He started off the season doing nothing (lol), but he then tackled several politically charged cases and he stuck to his guns, every time. He fought for his beliefs, even when he disagreed with the squad. Barba had to deal with politicians and community leaders and union reps and and media attention. He was under pressure from his bosses (something acknowledged by other characters, like Liv and Sonny) and we got to see him as part of a relatively fully-formed political universe, which, in turn, allowed us to see what he was made of. We got to witness his stress, but also his backbone. Near the end of the season, we learned he had been receiving death threats, which again allowed him to show how fearless he is. When the season ended, we left him in protective custody, still in danger, but “not worried, not in here.”
He started off the season as a recent law school graduate, studying to pass the bar and considering his professional options. We got to see him shadowing Barba to advance his legal knowledge, we got to see him thanking Barba for the help, we got to see him celebrating his success (passing the bar exam) with the squad, excited hugs and all, and we also got to see Barba suggesting an ADA spot in Brooklyn, as a possible career option for him. Sonny had a very cordial relationship with Mike Dodds, who wasn’t accepted very warmly by the rest of the squad. That showed Sonny’s supportive and friendly side. When the season ended, we got to see Sonny’s renewed desire to stay with SVU, after Mike’s death, because career aspirations are one thing, but Sonny’s work family is another. And Sonny wanted to be there for them. Still, the door was left open for Sonny to eventually pursue a different career path.
She started off the season unexpectedly pregnant, and she made the decision to have the baby. She managed to overcome her struggles with addiction, for the sake of her child. She tried to reach out to her family for help (which, gurl!) and she was betrayed by them yet again. She found herself alone, or so she thought. In truth, Amanda found another family, in her team mates. Her relationship with Fin, which used to be more heavily featured, was strengthened and showcased after many years, and she also learned to rely on Sonny, as a good friend and an even better babysitter. Her relationship with Liv was also strengthened, and they were there for each other as mothers, as women supporting other women, even when they had professional disagreements. Amanda also had a very tense relationship with Mike Dodds, which enriched her character. It allowed her to keep her trademark sass/spunk while also showing her more human side, as she came to appreciate Mike, the more she got to know him.
He started off the season regretting the fact he wouldn’t step up and take the Sergeant’s exam. He resented Mike for that, even though it wasn’t Mike’s fault, and we got some interesting scenes between him and Liv, discussing just that. Discussing their lives, their careers (especially at their respective ages) and their future. Their responsibilities as the (de facto) leaders of the squad. Fin also got to be there for Amanda, as I mentioned above. At the end of the season, we also learned that his son was in the process of having a child, and Fin was an excited grandpa-to-be.
He didn’t get the character development he deserved until later into the season, but he did function as a catalyst, allowing us to see different sides in all the other squad members. That’s why a new character always brings something to the show. New dynamics are created. Again, the writing did not do Mike justice, and his death was rather senseless, but we did get to know him, in the end. He started off the season as a somewhat detached and aloof character, but he ended it as a member of the team. One we were all sad to lose.
So yeah. Draw your own conclusions :D
Season 19 Suggestions
Bring in a new squad member.
That will breathe life into the show (like Sonny did, when he arrived) and it will flesh out the rest of the characters, as they try to navigate a new presence in the (practically empty) squad room.
Map out individual character arcs.
Take each character and say, “They will start the season HERE, and they will end it THERE.” It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate (especially for the characters who aren’t Liv). But it has to be something. Personal or professional. Some type of progress. Some forward movement. They can’t all end the season right where they started.
Rediscover the sense of a squad.
The characters are people. Colleagues. Friends. Family. They need to interact more heavily, in ways which showcase their dynamics. Similarities and differences alike. Since there are no actual “partners”, utilize that by mixing up the duos working each case. Don’t isolate characters. Integrate them.
Expand the types of cases being investigated.
Don’t just show “rich white people” crime, and exclusively focus on he said/she said rapes. Don’t show the same crime fifteen times. Variety is key.
Showcase Barba in the trial portion of the show.
Don’t waste time arguing physical evidence, when the legal arguments are much more interesting. Don’t spend twenty minutes on the defense attorney victim-blaming. Show Barba being cunning. Being smarter. Don’t allow him to be swayed by the non-lawyers (like Liv) or even the lawyers (like Sonny). Barba is the ADA, he makes the decisions. Show that. Give him back his strength and his big brass balls. Have him win, personally, and fail, personally.
Remember who the characters are.
And what they would do. Or what they wouldn’t do. Don’t sacrifice that for the sake of a twist, unless it’s a very good twist. Also, remember who the characters are to each other. Strengthen their bonds, show some friction, but let them be who they are. They’ve all existed for years, and they now transcend the week-to-week writing. Listen to the cast, and let the characters be true to themselves.
This is my first Sing fanfic so I hope you all enjoy it!
I want to thank all my friends on the Sing chat on Discord for inspiring and helping me make this possible! Thanks guys. You’re the best! 😀🌟
If you asked Mike nearly a year ago about his family, he’d tell you to buzz off.
His birth mother died when he was a kid and he only saw his birth dad a couple times a year since he left home 6 years ago. So family was a sore spot for him.
So what’s the difference between then and now? Well everyday he gets to wake up and be with his new family.
He has two little sisters. One sister is really shy and timid despite her large build. But is probably the greatest singer he knows! After himself of course. She also makes the best cakes and pies he knows(Her strawberry cheesecake, especially, is to die for) and always shares with everyone. He’s always careful with what he says around her as she’s so sensitive….. Usually. There have been incidents where he has lost patience with her or laughed when she made a mistake but usually makes amends before she gets too upset.
His other little sister is a bit tougher. With black boots and lots of spines, she’s the poster child of the phrase “rocker chick”…. or “Guttersnipe” as he likes to refer her to. While they often squabble and disagree on almost everything daily, he wouldn’t trade her for anything. But he’ll carry that to his grave before he admits that! He does like the rare times they team up. Like April 1st. Between her love for pranks and his love for the humiliation of others, it was a fun day. For them. Not so much everyone else. It resulted in a harsh lecture from the boss and cleaning up any messes made that day but they’ll always cherish “Prankmageddon”
He has a little brother who like him has a rocky past but unlike him, it hasn’t made him jaded to the world. The young gorilla was kinda like his sister in being innocent and sweet but more likely to speak his mind about what he believes in. In all honesty, he’s always wanted a younger brother to teach about girlfriends, card games and how to cheat without getting caught. He knows that the young gorilla isn’t usually paying attention when he is sharing advice(usually thinking about a certain female porcupine) but he pretends not to notice. He is however jealous of the leather jacket. Younger brothers aren’t supposed to be cooler than older brothers! It’s a rule!
He also has a big brother. He seems chilled and somewhat lazy…. And he sometimes is, but he always comes and gives 100% on helping out so everyone’s shows are a success. He’s a good listener and is usually the go-to guy if you need to vent about something. No matter what is said, the calm sheep never gets angry. At least not visibly. Sometimes big bro brings his N64 and they play Mario Kart or the original Smash Bros the rest of the family. They’re both competitive beings so playing together gets intense really fast. The sheep is pretty cool but one thing he would change is maybe not catching him making out with the boss….. repeatedly….. At least it makes good blackmail!
His uncle is unique in every way. Flamboyant, eccentric and kinda ditzy. That would usually annoy him but he sometimes lets it slide as that’s how the pig works. The flamboyant pig brings a special energy to the Theatre which just makes everyone upbeat and work harder. Always giving out uplifting words of encouragement…… Even if you can’t always understand what he’s saying. He’s also a great costume maker. He once made Mike a gold suit and honestly, he was ready to hate it but it just looked great on him… (As it should). Nobody has ever made anything for him by hand. He now treasures the suit.
His Nonna is an odd woman. She has a glass eye which is just plain creepy honestly. She’s usually forgetful and makes mistakes but is overall a sweet old lady. She’s always telling stories about her past experiences. Some of the stories don’t make sense but he listens intently. Mike never knew his birth grandparents so this is all new to him. The elderly lizard makes great coffee when she remembers not to drink it…. or doesn’t drop her eye in it. But the best thing about her as far as Mike is concerned, is that she’s also a Sinatra fan. She’s even been to his live performances when he was alive! And has a signature from him.
Then there’s mom. She’s a kindly pig who is a motherly figure to all, which was needed all things considered. Someone to care about everyone and show unconditional love. Mike admires her non stop patience and compassion. Especially since she has 25 piglets at home so it’s really sweet she’d be a mom to people she doesn’t fully know. She’s also quite firm. She’s always making sure the youngest performers are doing their college work and that everyone gets along. She also has this scary “Mom Glare” that Mike has seen a few more times than he would have cared for when he’s gone over the top with insults or got caught in a lie. All in all, the female pig is nice yet firm when needed. And also makes a great cheesy lasagne.
Dad….. Oh dad. Despite only being 7 years older than Mike, he considers his boss a somewhat father figure. From day one he’s noticed his amazing voice and natural charm which is more than anyone else did in the last few years. He’s always cheering everyone on making sure they do their best. He’s tender with the younger ones and is ever so patient with everyone. He is sometimes embarrassing though. He’s usually caught singing and dancing along to the cheesiest pop songs in history! And just last week he tried dabbing! Everyone groaned! Honestly…. the koala is amazing. Silly, crafty, funny, loyal and full of love and pride.
Then there’s his beloved Nancy. His light. His sweetheart. The girl he hopes to one day bend down on one knee to and make him a honest mouse. What started as a fling turned into true love. She saved him from being Bear food, hid out with him in Hawaii for almost 2 months and convinced him to make things right with everyone at the theatre. He wouldn’t be here now without her and he’s eternally grateful for that. Nancy may seem dainty and vain but she’s really smart and down to earth. She’s also not afraid to keep Mike in line. Usually with a good twist of his ear if she catches him being particularly rude….. Which is often…… But she does it to make him a better mouse.
When Mike thinks about it, he thinks it’s sort of odd how his family cane together. They were initially brought together with desire for potential fame and $100,000 and nothing more (We’ll for him at least). They were strangers at first and he didn’t care for them. It was the prospect of never seeing them again by either death or being thousands of miles away that started to open his heart. He was expecting them to turn him away when he returned from Hawaii and wouldn’t blame him. It was kinda his fault that the Theatre flooded and Buster almost lost everything. Not to mention as far as everyone knew, he just disappeared half way through Meena’s song. He doesn’t show it but he’s so grateful they gave him another chance.
His musings were interrupted by a sharp yell!
“Mike. Are you ready to practice for the show next week?”
“Oh! Oh sure, Mr. Moon. I’m coming. I shouldn’t keep my natural talent to myself anyway.”
As he walks up to the stage he sees his family mostly ready and waiting.
“Took you long enough you Cranky Crooner. I was almost expecting a quiet day”
“Up yours, Spines! You know you love me”
“Alright! Let’s not start another argument” the Koala intervenes “We have a lot to work to do so let’s get started. And please get along today”
“No promises” the porcupine and mouse both said at the same time…… And then both burst out laughing
That was a typical morning for Mike. Getting into a small fight with the porcupine and then the Koala or the motherly pig having to break it up. Then they work hard until lunch when someone usually brings in a treat and they usually share stories. Then more practice for shows, maybe do something for the Theatre Blog then get into another argument with the porcupine or someone else then call it a day to return to his beloved.
It’s predictable, mundane and gets into dumb fights with teens who don’t know real music!
A/N: I actually included smut in this chapter and this is my first time with it oh gosh
The only thing I could hear was yelling and a gunshot, the place going silent before I heard Mike yelling at someone. This really wasn’t any way to wake up from a nap, but I knew someone was either in trouble or Mike needed help with what he was doing.
My head rested on the table, my body hunched over while my hands were on my lap. My phone was on the table next to my head, the light at the opening corner blinking an orange color to show I had a text. I ignored the yells, going through the text I had.
Seunghyun: Princess, are you free tonight?
I stared at the text, thinking over on what I had planned before sighing heavily, locking my phone and ignoring it for a bit longer, I had to find out what the yelling was about anyway.
I sat up on my chair, yawning a bit before making my way out of the office to be greeted by more yelling and men arguing.
I walked over, keeping my distance from Mike who was waving a gun around like a madman as he continued yelling. “I need you all to just understand the situation!” Mike yelled.
“Boss, you’re crazy! How are we going to in there and try to find answers when they’re trying to kill us? They could be planning something and lie about it!” One of the men yelled. Mike huffed in annoyance, shaking his head and rubbing his temple.
“I’ll go,” I volunteered, not even knowing what the conversation was about. Mike turned to me, sighing before shaking his head.
“Y/N, remember what you told me about that guy said about BigBang?” I nodded, looking at the men. “I’m sending a few men to investigate why they said that. So the last thing I want is to send you and have Seunghyun or anyone else to follow you.”
Drabble Challenge - Prompt 149 - “I just need ten minutes.” Filled for @novemberhush Thank you for helping me unblock my fairy floss filled brain, I hope you like it. :)
Harvey and Mike had been a team now for a year, which was exactly how long both parties had wanted to merge into each other’s hearts and beds. Mike was waiting on Harvey to make the first move because he was the boss; Harvey was waiting on Mike because, as his boss, he couldn’t be seen to be harassing his associate.
There was a sticky note taped to Donna’s desk scribbled with 72 vertical lines. The exact amount of times that Harvey and Mike had been in the office, flirting with each other and Donna had thought this was it; this was the time they finally jump each other. 72 times Donna had thumped her head on the desk in frustration when they chickened out once again. So unfortunately at this juncture, the only merger going on was between Feltham Pharmaceuticals and Portal Distributors.
Harvey was hunched over Donna’s desk, discussing how best to broach the rejection of Louis’s latest insane idea, when Mike strode toward them.
“How’s my merger looking? Better than that skinny tie I hope?” Harvey teased, grasping Mike’s shoulder gently.
The Detective in
question froze in mid position over the microscope where he was
studying…something. He turned his head just enough to look at her with a
hint of confusion and guilt. The door swung shut behind her as she
stormed through the empty lab. It was late so she was the only
one-technically-who was on shift.
“I think you’ll find
that I have access to the labs whenever I need it,” he answered, turning
his attention back to the microscope. “Although you’ve let me have the
run of it for years now, so I’m not sure why you’re suddenly trying to be a
stickler for the rules.”
“I’m not talking about
the lab you great idiot,” she snapped. “Of course I know you have
the run of it, it isn’t as if I could stop you even if I wanted to.” She
slammed her hands onto the metal table and he shifted his gaze towards her
“No, what I’m talking
about is the Director’s Banquet this Thursday. The one I had a date for
until you scared him off.”
He straightened with a
frown, his attention fully on her now. “Which one?”
heavily. “You know it’s scary when you aren’t sure which one of my dates
you’ve scared off. I’m talking about Jim. He agreed to accompany me to
this before…” she waved her hand as if to say you know.
“Molly, you do realize
he is a criminal mastermind who was using you to get to me.”
