mikaela shiffrin

Petra Vlhova upset reigning FIS Alpine Ski World Cup champion Mikaela Shiffrin to claim a dramatic victory in the opening slalom event of the 2017-18 season.

The Slovakian was tasked with overhauling fellow 22-year-old Shiffrin, who has also taken the World Cup slalom title in four of the last five seasons, but a storming second run, which saw Vlhova better her opening time of 55.87 seconds, proved decisive in Levi, Finland.
