might do this with all the dancestors

anonymous asked:

What are your opinions on Areana Serket?

hmm. good question in that it doesn’t have a good answer

on the one hand, i like her more than ~half of the dancestors, as she at least cares about something and makes an effort to be nice. i admire her intellect. she’s very good at what she does, regardless of what that is, which is chiefly why i suspect mindfang was among the better pirates in history. but on the other hand, she has a lot of issues with power.

her actions in the GO timeline, in particular, are why i don’t like her all that much. she makes machiavellian decisions and carelessly toys with others’ lives, but doesn’t have any real … reason for her brutalistic worldview except “personality.” she wants to make life better, in theory, but what lead her to this strict utilitarian calculus of believing in “kill X to save X+1″?

like the obvious counterpart to this argument is “but you like vriska and/or terezi and they also make pretty shit decisions” and you’re right! i like them both even though they make pretty some shit decisions. in part because of it. not insignificantly because they make shit decisions and recognize they do, and what’s more, have reasons for their decisionmaking mechanisms rooted in their childhood or life experiences. vriska is caustic because she had to adapt that persona to survive her mother’s abuse. terezi is manipulative because of her experiences sentencing others to punishment, and her core ideal of justice, which justifies manipulation insofar as it achieves a just end – and she even demonstrates ethical confusion nearer the end of the comic regarding that! aranea is manipulative and occasionally cruel because she’s power-hungry and single-mindedly dedicated to being the one to kill the baddie, which, while not necessarily an unjust goal, isn’t grounded in anything we know about her past.

we’re not sure how similar aranea’s and vriska’s lusii were, so if we got more info on that – or more about Beforus’ culture, its system of ethics, how Feferi ruled it – i might sympathize with her more. but as it is, she faces the same difficulty as the rest of the dancestors, which is that hussie tossed them all into the narrative with a massive expodump and still didn’t tell us enough about their world.

So @slingshaht and I were talking about an AU where the monsters are trolls and they all play sburb! So I decided to draw it!

So Undyne here is a cerulean blood and is the equivalent of 16 years old because only kids play sburb.
She’s also a knight of blood.
The Undying in the first drawing is her ancestor which she summons through something like ancestral summoning.
Frisk could be a human or a troll from another session with chara as their dancestor and the poncho human from the opening sequence as their ancestor/guardian.
I might do Mettaton with Mettaton Neo as his ancestor next.

Also I think the second drawing is cut off so please full view.

You know, reading the update just made me realize how terrible it is actually keeping Vriska alive.

I mean, sure - this probably is old news to everybody but - Terezi is happy, yet she’s still suffering self-esteem issues and has to rely on Vriska for support when normally she’d be the one trying to calm Vriska down. Everyone else is happy too, I guess, but there’s also some strangeness to it, particularly with the trolls, like with Karkat being satisfied in not taking action as a leader anymore when in the previous timeline all he ever did was beat himself up over not being able to do anything to help Terezi cope with her depression or help Gamzee recover. Or how about when ARquiusprite didn’t even consider reviving Nepeta despite being moirails for life?

Plus, I get how no one sympathizes with Gamzee but, no one even considered being a little reasonable and letting him out the fridge except Dave. Not even Tavrosprite flinched an eye over his former friend getting padlocked inside a freezing container with a bunch of corpses, when he himself was busy making motivational friendship speeches about self improvement with Jake.

It’s really off putting, but I think I might’ve already guessed what’s happening here.

Alive!Vriska has not only manipulated the troll portion of the crew, she’s also replaced Aranea in this timeline and taken up her character arc.

This was the panel that convinced me. Notice the callback to when Aranea mind controlled Gamzee?

Or how about the fact that we haven’t seen any sign of Aranea since her death?

What’s more is that Vriska isn’t even supposed to be ALIVE in the first place?

And now she’s off to do something dangerous by HERSELF?

And her MOIRAIL is showing reluctance to this idea?

I have a bad feeling that this Vriska is going to die soon.

Having not learned when to back down from ambition like dead!Vriska, she’s destined to walk down the same path of her dancestor, one that might lead to more destruction despite good intentions. After all, those who don’t learn from the past are destined to repeat it, right?

Or perhaps, this Vriska might’ve learned, at least from a possible conversation between her and her alternate self. What if she knew about what happened with Aranea and instead of taking it as a sign of backing down, took it as an encouragement to becoming an effective and protective leader who puts the needs of others before herself? What if this is foreshadowing a possible sacrifice by her?

Maybe, this inspired Vriska to improve on her aspects’ abilities, perhaps making her so powerful over the course of 3 years that she managed to mind control Gamzee and use his powers to manipulate everyone (besides the humans cause, being put to sleep is the only troll power that actually works on them) into agreeing with her?

That might be why she’s so intent on keeping Gamzee locked in the fridge – as a means of CONTROL. But once she accomplishes what the crew set out for, she’ll just discard him like trash, because she won’t need him or his powers anymore, assuming she comes back still ALIVE.

One way or another though, this is all sounding awfully familiar, like the universe is just playing against them all or something, and if what happened in a future Caliborn’s timeline is correct, then it’s pretty much official that shit’s about to hit the fan.

Heck, the Gamzee we see sliced up in Caliborn’s stop-motion vid might even be the same Gamzee who’s locked in the fridge right now! What if that wallet was actually really essential to everyone’s survival and could’ve prevented this outcome from happening? Could having the other half of Gamzee receive a possible revival by Jane be possible? And if so, does that mean his redemption quest will involve having to undo the damage using Aradia’s time boxes?

I’m probably just grasping at straws right now, but you never know.

Let’s just see what happens.
