The fox squirrel (Sciurus niger), also known as the eastern fox squirrel or Bryant’s fox squirrel, is the biggest tree squirrel species in North America, running about a third larger than the eastern gray (Sciurus carolinensis).
We don’t have these in eastern Pennsylvania, so I was fascinated by them on a recent weekend visit to Michigan. Their range covers all of the central and southeast US and small adjacent areas in Canada and Mexico
I was absolutely in love with the weather yesterday. It was a perfectly crisp 50-55 degrees all day. It was a typical rainy, gloomy, blustery, dreary, beautiful autumn day. It reminded me of why I moved back to the Midwest.
