michigan squirrels

The fox squirrel (Sciurus niger), also known as the eastern fox squirrel or Bryant’s fox squirrel, is the biggest tree squirrel species in North America, running about a third larger than the eastern gray (Sciurus carolinensis).

We don’t have these in eastern Pennsylvania, so I was fascinated by them on a recent weekend visit to Michigan.  Their range covers all of the central and southeast US and small adjacent areas in Canada and Mexico
