I wanted to say that this whole thing has been screwed up from the beginning. You and me, us, just a whole long stupid story. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s meant so much to me, you know. From day one, from the moment that I kidnapped you and stole your car.

ultimate shipper challenge: [4/5] “chemistry off the charts” ships  michael guerin + maria deluca

I’ve never let anyone see me before. Because there are things inside of me that I don’t want people to see. There’s things inside of me that I’m not so proud of. But I’ve thought about it, and I want you to see me.

Michael was so awful to Maria. She would just take it and keep going back to him. Max and Michael were mean

I suppose this has something to do with the previous ask since Shiri and Majandra say something like that about the guys and their behaviour on the ‘Shiri and Majandra show’

I’m not gonna defend Max and Michael because I agree. They were complete jerks to the girls so many times.

But I am gonna say that Maria did not ‘just take it’ and kept going back to Michael.

On season one, Michael starts getting close to her and then puts his wall back up on ‘heat wave’ and tells her that he ‘can’t get involved’ and that ‘he’s alone and that’s the way it’s gotta be’ Maria walks away and gives up on a future relationship with him. Remember her speech in ‘the balance’? ‘me? I’m teflon, babe. Michael starts acting like a total loser, I just walk away.’ and SHE DOES.

She totally ignores him on ‘toy house’ when he keeps trying to talk to her (ever since he had that flash during ‘the balance’, he’s stuggling with his feelings towards her and is trying to apologize in his own way). He says ‘hey’ on the hall, she replies ‘whatever’

He says ‘how you doing?’ on the blachers she says ‘fine’ and switches seats with some guy so she doesn’t have to sit next to him.

He tries to help her make the napkin holder and she pushes him away.

If anything, the one that kept coming back was Michael.

On season 2 Maria calls him during the summer and he just avoids her. The difference this season is that Michael told her he loved her on ‘destiny’ and then walked away from her because ‘he isn’t safe.’ He had just killed Pierce and thought he was dangerous. ‘I can do these things that I can’t control. Look at what I did to Pierce. I’m not going to take that chance with you. I don’t want you to be around for what’s going to happen next.’ She tells him he needs her, he says he doesn’t need anyone (he’s pushing her away once more, the wall is back up on full force). Maria knows he’s hurting and she’s waiting for him to get over the alien soldier thing and realize that he actually does need her around and that she’s willing to take the risk of what that might mean in the future.

So, Maria’s waiting and then Courtney sweeps in and, again, Maria gives up and walks away from Michael.

After that, he tries to make amends in ‘a roswell christmas carol’ and they’re back on track, though not officially. But my point is that Michael is, once again, the one who makes the first move.

By the end of season 2, he’s actually leaving earth and yet, he stays for her. Without even Maria asking him to do so.

Now, season 3, that’s the one in which he is a total jerk, by the end of the season anyway (I blame the alien tattoo effect and bad writing) but, the reason why they broke up was because Maria was lost and needed to find herself, not because he mistreated her or anything of the sort. If you ask me, Michael was a prince on season 3 up until the ‘who died and made you king’ episode. And this is the only time Maria is the one who goes back to him. At the end of the series. See, just like on ‘destiny’ he tells her he loves her -that he will always love her, in fact- and leaves because he truly believes she’s better off without him, that she’ll be safer.

As for Max and Liz, I think I’ve said everything I ever wanted to say about the guy being an ass. And, even though you didn’t say anything about Liz going back to Max time and time again, I’d like to say that she didn’t do that either. She wanted to, badly, but she didn’t.

When Max tells her he’d like to ‘start again’ she looks so damn hopeful and then he says ‘our friendship, that is’

In ‘heart of mine’ she’s hopeful again with the prom happening. She had dreamt of this moment and of going with him but she can’t forget about future!max, the destiny thing, Tess…

She’s hurting, clearly. Or, as Sean put it, ‘she’s suffocating.’ This gifset shows what I’m talking about. And for all the awful things Max did to her on season two, here’s more.

By the end of ‘heart of mine’, she sees Alex and Isabel kissing and I think she believes that if there is hope for them yet, maybe there is also hope for Max and her and goes out to find him -or, maybe she was actually on her way to find Sean, who knows- but she sees him with Tess and -yes, you guessed it- she walks away.

She even later confronts him about it, letting him know that she saw them and that it’s okay, that they are both moving on and that’s the end of it. ‘We’ve discussed this, you’re moving on and I am moving on. That’s the decision we’ve made. I just wanted you to know that I saw you and that I’m okay with it. Okay?’

So, I’m sorry, but I don’t agree with the statement that these girls just ‘took it’ and despite being treated badly, ‘kept going back’ to the guys.

Did they have faith in them? Sure. Did they wait for them to figure things out on more than one occasion? You bet. But did they ever not stand up for themselves? The answer is no.
