The Sanest Commentator on Ferguson: How About a Rapper Named Killer Mike?

Sounds about right!

Killer Mike dropping knowledge.

“It’s not an attempt; It’s successful.”

I’ve watched this multiple times. It’s a great watch.

Grandma’s House - Killer Mike

The artist is incredible (@killermikegto), and the song is one of my favorites from him. Killer Mike is a huge influence, both musically and as a person. I became a diehard Michael Render fan on this album. This song appears on 2008’s I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind II. “Grandma’s House” isn’t just another story on a rap album— it is HIS story. Just the fact that he opened up his past on this song is enough to keep me as a fan.

When I first purchased this album, I latched onto this song because it reminded me of my grandmother. I’d listened to ‘Pledge 2’ everyday for a few months, because I traveled EVERYWHERE with the CD. In December of 2008, this song would take on an entirely different meaning to me. I lost my Granny to cancer that year, and I took it rough, to say the least. This might sound unconventional, but Killer Mike’s music really helped me through that time in my life. A couple weeks ago I was on the porch at my grandma’s house. Every time I hear this song, I’m reminded of my childhood and the time I spent with her.

As a Hip Hop advocate, I wouldn’t be right if I didn’t plug more of the man’s music. killermikegto has an amazing resume and is a brilliant lyricist AND public speaker. Most recently, he released a joint album with el-p called Run The Jewels. It’s free, please check it out. They had a crazy tour and it was the best show I’d seen all summer. Even bought a copy of the album. Support dope artists and great music. One.

Peace, Hip Hop & Purple Rain

honestly though killer mike is the greatest dude
i was high as fuck and at the very front of the stage and el was performing his verse off of a christmas fucking miracle which is inspirational
im looking up to the sky like reaching out as el is rapping “they can never take the energy inside you were born with”
i open my eyes and mike is staring me dead in the fuckin face with this cheeky smile on his face
and so i throw my head back, absolutely overtaken by embarrassment and laughter
killer mike comes up to me and tustles my fuckin hair and shakes my hand
michael render is one genuine dude
