A Special Message from the Haughton Family:

Very early in the morning on January 16, 1979 Michael and I brought Aaliyah Dana with the blessing of God into the world. It took 15 minutes for her to make her presence known. Michael said “I have a beautiful baby girl”. Thus the sweet name that followed her through life. We took her home soon after and she met the brother that would love her and that she would love for the next 22 years.

Mom, Dad, Ra

Aaliyah & her dad Michael being interviewed while their visit in Amsterdam in 1995 ♥

Michael Haughton: I guess I’m like any father who’s child doing well. So, you feel good about it.

Aaliyah: A lot of parents can be kind of strict but he’s (Michael) really cool, we have fun together, like a homie you know?

Michael: She’s like most daughters. She can have her little mists of time hearing. She’s a very mature person for age, you know..and um.. I really haven’t have a lot of problems, really cause she’s too busy to get into trouble.

Aaliyah *laughs*

Michael: She’s like any other kid, you know…she has her moments, and pretty much, you know lives a normal life as we can get with, of her being in this business.

Aaliyah & Usher as Counterparts

They were born only four months and two days apart. Usher’s date of birth is October 14, 1978 and Aaliyah was born January 16, 1979.

Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number and Usher’s self-titled album were both released in 1994. Both debut albums showed off a maturity beyond their 15 years.

Sophomore efforts One in a Million (1996) and My Way (1997) were released just little over a year apart. Both albums are home to two of some of the best R&B singles of the 90’s; One in a Million and You Make Me Wanna.

Third albums were released in July 2001 with Usher’s dropping on the 1st day of that month and Aaliyah, six days after. Both were critically acclaimed for their artistic growth.

They could both sing, dance and were the first male and female artist from their generation to be considered as the heirs to throne of Pop superstar siblings, Michael and Janet Jackson.

Happy Blessed 38th Birthday to Rashad Hasan Haughton born
August 6, 1977.  DID YOU KNOW: When it came time for Aaliyah to film the video for her single “4 Page Letter” Rashad would complete the video preparation within two hours while studying at Hofstra University. On the B-side of the 4PL single, Rashad recorded a song with his sister entitled “Death of a Playa”. Rashad’s first ever movie role {besides  re-dubbing several of Aaliyah’s lines in QOTD due to her death in 2001} was Proud in 2004. Proud is the true story of the only African-American crew to take a Navy warship into combat in World War II, in which Rashad played the role of Naval saxophonist Hank Fields. Rashad also saw the release of his first single, though it was not released in the US: “Fork In The Road” (with 1200 Techniques), which made it No. 55 on Australian Charts. Rashad would later write and direct a short file {11 minutes long} called  Chrysalis in 2006. 2011 Rashad movie wrote “Love Like Aliens” for the short film “Love Like Aliens” which he also directed. 2012 Rashad’s father Michael Haughton died. Today Rashad is set to produce “Red Ash” main theme song and survives by his mother Diane Haughton.

Guys, the book is there! See pic number 4! There was some beautiful flowers! I bought her favorite flowers and left a cheque for the Aaliyah Memorial Fund. I also took a picture with a shirt of aaliyahalways design, it looks amazing! And with my new Jacket!
I just broke down in tears because I couldn’t leave her, I don’t know why but I’m like: “I want to stay close to her” I really can feel her presence with me when I’m there! So I stayed there untill almost 4PM, untill Ferncliff close its doors. The taxi man said to me when he saw my shirt: “Aww you’re gonna see Aaliyah. It’s crazy, a lot of people go to visit her, I’ve never seen that!”
To know that she receives all this love warmed my heart at a point you can’t imagine!!!!! Untill next time Lili and Michael.
