I’m gonna be honest now about something that really annoys me. Not everyone, but lots of websites and places have lists of ENFP characters and they’re just…wrong. As an ENFP, I feel I am an expert in this field (though I don’t claim to be for any other type).
Let’s do a case study to make this make sense.
Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) is commonly mistyped as ENFP.
You’re trying to tell me that this woman who has whole binders of organized research about one comment, who has a plan and a committee for everything, who has her life mapped out down to the tiny details…is a P? No. Not all Js are organized and not all Ps are chaotic, but Leslie Knope is not a P. She is an amazing character and one of the best female role models on TV. But she is not an ENFP.
A character who is actually ENFP:
Jessica Day (played by Zooey Deschanel).
Jess is someone who can’t even organize her own feelings, much less her thoughts, much less her life. They have a lot in common, but the difference is that Jess is ENFP and Leslie is not.
Characters commonly mistyped as ENFPs: Rubeus Hagrid (Harry Potter), Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars) - don’t even get me started on how wrong this one is -, Princess Anna (Frozen), Michael Scott (The Office), Hugo “Hurley” Reyes (LOST)
Characters who are probably ENFP: Gil Pender (Midnight In Paris), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Phoebe Buffay (Friends), Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables), Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
