A People’s Army Mi-24 Hind gunship photographed in darkness from the bushes by a South African special forces reconnaissance team, circa 1983. While these heavy-duty gunships rarely saw direct action against South African forces, their compliment of rockets, troops in the belly and autocannons kept every SADF trooper on his toes and ears open.
This is the only f-15e to shoot down another aircraft. It destroyed an Iraqi Mi-24 Hind with a pavement bomb during Desert Storm. It later became the first f-15e to log 10,000 flying hours over Afghanistan.
