metropolitan cathedral of christ the king

Sir Edwin Lutyens’ proposed and unbuilt design for the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool, England.

From Wiki:

Lutyens’ design was intended to create a massive structure that would have become the second-largest church in the world. It would have had the world’s largest dome, with a diameter of 168 feet (51 m) compared to the 137.7 feet (42.0 m) diameter on St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

It is lamentable that this glorious structure gave way to that monstrous temple to vice and decadence that was built in its place.
