mesoamerican jade

The funerary ornaments of K'inich Janaab’ Pakal I (Pacal the Great), 7th century adornments excavated from the Temple of the Inscription, Palenque, Mexico.

I worked with a customer’s requests to create these custom long-style Guatemalan jadeite plugs with moonstone in gold.

They were interested in a Southeast Asian style long plug (sometimes called a ‘subang,’ although I believe that term may be used as a general name for plugs) with my Mesoamerican inspired jade flower motif. The two concepts compliment each other nicely. A style like this is meant to hang slightly due to the weight on the back, and the large face keeps them in place.
