So Leorio has been bothering me to let the world know of my RPG addiction. So I threw together this list of sorts because I just finished a bunch of awesome RPG horror games. I recommend these if you want something entertaining, and slightly scary. These are in order from my favorite, to least favorite! P.S. I absolutely forbid Gon from playing these games.
1. Ib (Amazing, need I say more?). Scary (7/10) Fun (9/10)
2. Forest of Drizzling Rain (not so scary, but pretty cute). Scary (5/10) Fun (9/10)
3. Alice Mare (short, and fun) Scary (6/10) Fun (8/10)
4. Mad Father (Spooky!). Scary (8/10) Fun (7/10)
5. The Mirror Lied (this ones pretty weird, but very short.) Scary (4/10) Fun (5/10)
6. Misao (Story wasn’t my favorite, but it was fun game play) Scary (7/10) Fun (6/10)
7. Mermaid Swamp (the story is a little odd, and it’s definitely scary.) Scary (9/10) Fun (5/10)
8. The Crooked Man (It did it’s job well, and was unpleasantly scary. So unpleasant that its at the bottom..) Scary (10/10) Fun (4/10)
Soooo yeah! These were pretty fun, I know I’m forgetting some, but I’ll keep updating as I play more games.
Extra: Homework Salesman was really fun, but not at all a horror game. Scary (0/10) Fun (9/10)
Mirrors have a lot of meaning in mermaids folklore. As you should know from myths, most mermaids have something that “fulfills” her, something that is really special for her, it can be a mirror, a seashell, a hair comb (the most common ones) or like mine, a necklace, but the important thing is that it is said that if you take a mermaid’s (or other merfolk) “special thing”, she will lose her free will, so it turns mirrors into really precious objects.
Most of these myths end with the siren finding its precious object and returning to the sea, leaving behind a husband and children… why? easy, nobody likes to be forced to marry and have children. But some merfolk even take their children with them back home, don’t worry. (This takes me to making a post later about myths of mermaids and human daughters and sons, and some characteristics that they use to have, but that’s for another post!)
Also, mirrors represent water (the ocean, a river, a lake, all of them can work as a natural mirror) and have a more deep meaning than just “oh look! I’m beautiful!”. Nah, we’re not that egocentric (well, at least not all of us). Just listen:
Mirrors are used for mermaid magic as a window to other worlds and tend to represent wisdom, can be used in astral travel, meditation, divination (scrying), and even for protection: a ward that looks like a mirror on the outside reflects all negativity and keeps positivity and light on the inside. Also, and most importantly, mirrors symbolize truth. Yeah, truth, reality, seeing things clearly, revelation… but what does that mean?
It means that, for a mermaid, as strongly related to water and it’s power, looking herself at a mirror is like looking at their true self, we see feelings, past, things that we did and how that changed us, how the world can form a person… or a mermaid, in this case lol
Then, they’re used for divination, astral travel, meditation and such, but also introspection and shadow work too.
I hope this clarifies some myths and misunderstandings about merfolk and mirrors♥
Air rules me but so does water. I am split down the middle between the two. Water is chaotic and memorizing, and there is much you can do because it is one of the two elements that you can actually touch. Just like my other post, Working with Air, we will be exploring different ways that you can connect more deeply with water. Enjoy dearies!
Here is a list of different ways to work with water:
We must drink water to survive, so when you are about to grab a glass of water (whether purified, tap, or bottled) before you pour it in your glass or before opening your bottle, enchant it by holding your hands around the glass/bottle (with your eyes closed or open) then say something along the lines as “I am one with the running waters of the Earth.”
Go to the beach. Collect seashells, rocks, and sand. Dip yourself in the ocean. Feel the powerful waves crash against you. NOTE: Be careful of any animals that live within the ocean, be respectful. Don’t collect anything that can be harmful for your health or illegal. EX. feathers.
Showers are powerful. If you are one who likes to take showers in the morning, imagine the water energizing you for the day ahead and see yourself conquering all that lies before you. If you are one who likes to take showers at night, imagine the water rinsing off to cleanse you from long day you had and see yourself washing away everything so you are fresh and new. No matter what time you take a shower, allow the water to freshen up your spirits.
Baths are very calming and relaxing. When one cannot go to the beach, this is an excellent way to substitute. Fill the tub, surround yourself with blue/purple candles, seashells, and crystals that relate to water. Put in herbs or essential oils within your bath to connect you to the ocean waves of the deep, vast blue. Bonus, you can put on ocean sound music to set the mood. NOTE: Do your research, do not put in herbs or oils that are harmful to your health. Do not put crystals around the tub if they can be toxic or if they deteriorate in water. Your health is always most important.
When it is raining, go outside and let the rain fall upon you. Close your eyes and let the water cleanse your being. Then if you would like, play. Splash in puddles, run around. Enjoy yourself.
Make a sigil that means “I connect with the waters of the deep, beautiful sea.” or something along the lines. (Again, I am not a sigil maker but something I would like to include for others who are) Wear the sigil on you as you go to the beach or are working at your water altar.
Make a special water altar, preferably facing west. Fill it with mermaid items, chalices, colors of dark blues and purples, seashells, etc.
Research mermaids. Merpeople swim in the deep depths of the sea. They are beautiful, alluring, and mysterious. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any sources on how to communicate with them so here is a small list of ways I have personally used to connect with them.
Go to the beach, sit in front of the water and sing. Whether it is a mermaid song (like Jolly Sailor Bold) or your all time favorite song, just sing your heart out. If others are around you on the beach, sing quietly or have your headphones in. If you are alone, then sing as loud as you want.
Collect seawater in a jar, then when you get home make an oil using essential oils and herbs that mermaids love. Then before you go to sleep, take a small inhale, then fall asleep. Let the mermaids come to you in your dreams. NOTE: Do your research, do not use oils that will harm your health. This is more for aroma, not placing on your skin.
While you are at the beach, leave the mermaids small offerings that you feel they would enjoy. NOTE: Do not leave anything that is harmful to our environment, like jars filled with items. Be respectful to our Earth.
If you cannot go to the beach, take a bath and surround yourself with mermaid items; like statues, mirrors, seashells, etc. Fill the bath with herbs and oils that relate to merpeople then while you are bathing, sing. Look in the mirror if you would like, allow yourself to become one with them. NOTE: I don’t really care that I repeat myself so often but for real, do you research. Do not use herbs or oils that will harm your health.
Be careful as you would communicating with any kind of spirit. Protect yourself and be respectful while you contact.
as some consider mermaids to be a type of fae creature, it is important to note they do not immediately trust humans and it is something to be done with caution. with some research into the lore, here is what i’ve come up with;
🌊 know what you want to talk to the mermaid about, and consider first the trust level you need when asking, as somethings are sensitive information.
do you have questions regarding them, or magic?
do you wish to work with them on a spell?
🌊 place the mirror in the water, place offerings around the edges of the bowl.
🌊 engage with the astral plane at least partially.
🌊 take your hand and place it in the water when you invoke the name of a mermaid. remove your hand immediately after.
🌊 use the pendulum or method of divination to receive their answers.
🌊 when you are done, place the offerings in the water and let sit.
🌊 remove the mirror before you pour out the water, try to touch the water minimal amounts when removing.
respect and safety:
🌊 like any spiritual or magical creature, you must respect the ones you work with. however, mermaids are also known from lore to be hostile towards humans, particularly the bit with luring away and drowning.
🌊 after contacting a mermaid, be wary of any music that strikes a chord with you, and approach it carefully, as music is their primary way of luring “sailors” and other humans to their destruction.
🌊 after first contact, either protect yourself with spells or continue to give offerings to the mermaid, as you have denied them the bounty they were after, – a human to drown.
Ok so, I was like bored, and I just decided to try making sprites but the design is actually Yume Nikki inspired….and just practicing my skills! : DD Whom else did I not join in there? :D (Well, you might guess for the last one….(Ow~)
