It’s hard to think that life could be anything other than this.

The town is what tourists call an escape.

Hoseok calls it an escape, too.

Hoseok was going to die, and now he isn’t, and now every mythological creature in the world seems to want to kill him. But that’s okay, because Yoongi is one of them, and Hoseok would go through a hell of a lot just to hold Yoongi’s hand and, like, tell him he’s pretty.

As it turns out, he has to go through a hell of a lot just to hold Yoongi’s hand and tell him anything at all.

Catch of the Day (Voltron- Part 1)

1 || 2 || 3

Keith had heard of merfolk before, multiple people had claimed they were real but he had thought nothing of them. He had always thought mermaids were nothing but a tale for little children. But now, on the floor of the boat, a very real, very scary merman sat, well lay, before him, gasping for breath with a long slice up his side and a large hook sticking into his flesh. His razor sharp teeth and intimidating tale gleaming with blood did nothing but intimidate Keith.

“S-shiro! Come here!” Keith stumbled back and fell to the floor as he hit the side of the large boat. The fisherman come skidding around the corner at the sound of the shout but he too, yelps in surprise as he took in the sight of a bleeding merman before him.

“o-Oh” Shiro mutters and quickly makes his way over to the creature. He takes one look at the hook and winces. He couldn’t just leave the thing to suffer, so he had to act quick.

“Sorry about this.”

Shiro yanks the hook out and immediately puts pressure on the wound, the creature passes out after a loud wail of pain. “Go and get the big tank, we can’t chuck him back, he’s injured and bleeding.” Shiro tells the shell-shocked Keith who hesitates before taking action.

They get the creature bandaged and in the tank filled with water, not without great difficulty, however. The unconscious merman had been heavy to lift, hard to lift over the top of the tank. Once it was all done and the creature was resting in the tank they sat back and let the situation sink in.

They had caught a merman.

Now, in this day and age it wasn’t unheard of people catching out of the ordinary things like colossal mutant squid or oddly beautiful sea creatures but this, this was a different situation entirely. Keith and Shiro had been on the sea for many, many years, since they were practically kids, actually. They had been catching sea creatures and only a handful of times did they get anything other than the normal fish or shark, sometimes they would reel in something they themselves didn’t even know of. But never a merman.

“So, we just wait for it to wake up…..” Keith dragged out unsurely and looked over to Shiro who was still staring at the creature.  “And take it back inland??”

“Then what? We tell people?”Shiro asked and turned on Keith who shrugged in reply, lost with what to do. “I don’t know about you Keith, but this thing looks pretty humanly and I don’t think it would appreciate being tested by scientist or others of the sort.”

“It would be cruel,” Shiro muttered and turned back to the tank, he stared at the creature. It was true, the thing scared him. He didn’t like the gleam of his sharp teeth, he didn’t like the sharp fins coming from his dark blue tail that seemed to shine with an unknown magic. No matter how scary it was, it would still be cruel to give him into the scientists, no matter what fame and glory they got.

“That’s true,” Keith gave a deep sigh and slumped over the side of the boat, contemplating. “But we could be made if we did, get a better boat, even a house if we wanted,”

“We are not giving this thing in for money,” Shiro sighed and turned around to look out at sea. “Maybe he’s friendly?” He posed more as a question than a statement and Keith snorted in reply.

“All we have to do now…. Is wait.”

“What do we do if it’s hostile? It could attack us,” Keith said before a light bulb went off in his head and he went down the stairs into their living space. A few moments later he came back up with a large knife in hand. And when Shiro looked at him disbelievingly all Keith could do was shrug. “For protection,”

“Fine, whatever makes you feel safe.” Shiro rolled his eyes and sat down on a chair a few feet away from the tank.

Shiro looked out to sea once again. The sea they were on was quite calm, the sun was just rising and no clouds were present in the sky. Every now and then a sea bird would caw, or a fish would jump up. Land was so far away they had lost sight of it long ago, the next time they planned to dock was in a few months to restock essentials they couldn’t get for themselves while on the water.

The rocking of the boat slowly but surely delivered Shiro into the dreamland and soon enough, he was sleeping with his head lulled forward.

His peaceful sleep was interrupted by a loud bang and a shout from Keith, Shiro bolted awake and glanced around in a panic. Apparently, from what Shiro could make of the scene playing out in front of him, the merman had awoken while Shiro was asleep and jumped out of the tank in a fearful act. Now a soaked Keith and a wriggling merman were wrestling on the floor in a huge scuffle.

“Arg, Shiro! Help me!” Keith cried out as he was knocked back by the long slim light blue tail.

Shiro ran over quickly and wrapped his arms around the closest body he could grab, trying to separate them. When he felt a slick body wiggling in his arms he ran over to the tank and hauled him over the side.

The merman, however, had different ideas as he dragged Shiro into the water with him as well. With a large splash Shiro was submerged in the salt water, the slim hands of the creature reached down and pulled his head above the water, so he could breathe.

“Why am I here?” The smooth, captivating voice of the creature asked, Keith and Shiro’s eyes grew heavy-lidded but they shook their heads and blinked.

“We……accidentally caught you….. while fishing? Sorry about that by the way,” Shiro explained quickly but unsurely as he tried to pry the creatures grip off of his collar. “We thought it would be best if you were at least conscious and not bleeding before we put you back in.”

“…… oh…..well, thank you…… I would have been eaten by the sharks of this sea otherwise,” The merman let go of Shiro apologetically and swam to the edge of the tank outlooking the ocean. “I’m not from this area, I’m quite far away from home…… ”

Shiro looked at Keith who shrugged and started to walk over and help pull Shrio out of the tank. Suddenly the merman turned to them with a fearful look in his blue eyes that seemed to be glowing.

“Would it be too much to ask if I could stay here for a while? After I attacked him?” The creature suddenly grew red as he stuttered and looked at Keith. “I’m so sorry for that, I was just a bit scared.”

“No, it’s fine, you can stay as long as you want,” Shiro answered before Keith could get a chance to say anything after a snort made it’s way out of Keith’s mouth. “Can I ask why? We won’t be much help with finding your sea.”

“I think it would be safer with you two than in an unknown area with unfamiliar creatures,” The creature shrugged and suddenly smiled brightly. It was then that they realised his sharp teeth they had been so scared of were gone, replaced with a near perfect set of normal, pearly teeth. And the spikes that had run up his back were gone, normal blue fins flowing in the water like a dress.

He was like a gorgeous ruler of the sea. A deity, like a son of Poseidon himself.

Shiro and Keith found themselves turning red as the creature glowed with a magic unknown to them.

“I’m Lance, by the way. It’s nice to meet you,” The creature, Lance, smiled and reached out his hand to them in a friendly greeting.

Shiro was first to grab ahold of the outstretched arm and shook it firmly.”I’m Shiro,”

Lance turned expectantly to Keith, Shiro was about to step up and introduce his friend before he noticed Keith step forward and take the hand as well. Keith shook it gently and looked at Lance with a slight frown on his face.

“Keith,” Keith said before he mumbled something ineligible under his breath. Shiro, however, knew it was an apology, it was the only way Keith would ever apologise to anyone.

“Oh, it’s fine!” Lance laughed loudly and slapped Keith’s shoulder, Keith had tensed. He didn’t think he’d hear him. Keith tried to hide his face but everyone could see the burning ears.

“Well, this’ll be fun,” Lance shined and done a small spin in the tank. “Like a current trip! This tank is also quite roomy, why do you have this?”

“Every now and then we decide that we want to keep some fish that we catch alive, so they stay fresh,” Keith explained with no hesitation. Shiro looked at Keith with an angry fire in his eyes but it turned to confusion as Lance started laughing.

“Oh, are you keeping me fresh too?” Lance giggled and went under for a bit before coming back up. He accidentally bumped the side of his abdomen and winced as the cut was irritated. Thankfully no one noticed.

“Well, we better set sail,” Shiro suddenly said. Keith and Lance looked at him in confusion.

“Why?” Keith asked and rolled out a kink in his neck.

“Well, we have to stock up if we are going to be looking for Lance’s home, right?”

Galra Keith theory - I hear your heartbeat and I see how hot you are

Galra Keith senses are way different from Human Keith senses and he takes advantages of this ; in combat, he switches from both forms to get the best view of the situation :

Human Keith is good sighted, he sees pretty far and has good reflexes as we saw. Boxing uses sight more than earing so he’s human here.

But Galra Keith. To me, he’s mostly based on a bat and here is why it’s fun :
Bats are nocturnal animals. Galra don’t have pupils and seem to be more accomodated to purple ranging lights.

So what if Keith can’t see shit in galra form, but hears anything ? Like, litteraly. His big ears rotate and can receive any sounds around 300 meters or so, because his vision is very different and he needs to compensate and balance.
He also has paws that makes him silent as a cat and a pretty good sense of air tension and vibes emitted by other beings.
He mostly goes galra in infiltration missions, because it’s better for spying.
His balance is way better too, as he’s more dense than in Human form

Made for differents wavelenghts of lights, his eyes are suited for dark areas and he can’t see anything with the castles bright lights.
His visual cones can receive higher ranging wavelenghts. Like infrared.
Basically what i mean is :

Keith can hear you breath and sees your temperature. Also he feels how you feels.

So i get klancy here.

Imagine Keith shapeshifting but partially. Only some furry ears and glowy eyes, the rest is human. He’s training because he needs to get used to half-shifting and double sword wielding.
He’s also a lot more easily sweaty and exhausted because it’s tiring™ and he overheats in furry mode.

As he’s taking the training bots down one by one, Lance walks in because he needs to fix his aiming with double guns and ice lasers.

They make a contest out of anything and as Lance doesnt move that much to stay precise and concentrated, his temperature stays low and he pauses his breath a lot. Keith sees him in blue and practically doesnt hears him. He feels nothing but a deep concentration, very calming and slow.
Basically Lance is almost invisible, it’s very bugging Keith because he can’t take the risk to wield both swords all around.

Lance takes down a bot coming from behind Keith for the last round, and Keith lets a “we are a good team”/“ swift work, cowboy” of any sort split out, still in galra form. They end training session and Keith wipes sweat off his forehead with his shirt before throwing a space Capri sun at Lance.

He doesnt find the blue paladin in his vision tho, no blue form are to be seen, but he clearly ears a muffled squeal and a really loud, fast paced heartbeat.
The calm vibes are replaced by a mess of emergency signals too, as some hurt animals.
At first he fears he hit Lance without noticing by throwing his Blade.
Then he catches him back.
Lance’s form is in bright red in the corner, barely catching his pouch of juice. He doesn’t look hurt at all. But…

- You look pretty hot, Lance.
- You… You too !
- I mean you’re at least 40 degrees from what i see.

Aaand as drums of heartbeats are playing solos like in a metal concert in his brain, Keith shapeshift back to human.

- Did I miss it ?
- What ?
- My transformation…
- No, you look fine as heck. I mEAN YOu LoOK huMAn that’s it.
- But you’re still all reddish ?
- Frog off Kogane.

So that’s how Keith learned how to mess with Lance and decode human temperature changes.

Also I raise you all the applications like :
- Hunk, I think it’s burnt
- Pidge, your computer is overheating
- Shiro, your arm… How does it not melt ?
- Allura have you thought about resting, but like, not in the cryomod of the pods ? (Turns out alteans are as cold as galras are hella warm)

- Lance ? Are you okay ?
- Yeah i’m, ATCHAA, i’m good.
- You just sneeze-scared me. Also you’re too hot.
- You said it baby ! *sneezes* Hey Kitty, looks like don’t need your pretty eyes *ATChOU* to see how i got your heart burnin’ right ?? *sneezes again and hits his heads on the couch*
- *screams internally*
(Allura : - Please stop them) //sickfic hohoho//
Writing Prompt #103

Someone had poured vodka into the swimming pool, and the mermaids were drunk off their asses. The dragon had one too many shots of firewhiskey, and was now hiccuping flames near the garden, which only made Frankenstein panic. The changelings were using the zombie’s heads as volleyballs, and I began to wonder if this party was a good idea after all.

But still, she pulled you onto her lap, brushing off the damp sand on your knees as she pulled you to her chest,

“Originally mermaids and sirens were two different beings, mermaids known for physical beauty, and sirens had heavenly voices,” you smiled looking up at her, as she continued her story, “but somewhere along the way the lines blurred, sirens became as beautiful as mermaids. That’s why you have to be careful,” she tapped your nose lightly, “These days the only way to tell them apart is you listen. A mermaid may have a beautiful voice but a sirens' melody will pull you to the water against your will.”

One could never be too careful around him, for his apparent harmlessness was but an illusion. It was common knowledge that he was the preferred son of his mother, Queen Aslaug, whose influence extended as far as Ragnar’s reputation did.

Ivar knew that she favored him because he was like her in many ways – seemingly not a threat to anyone, possibly even considered helpless and utterly incapable of being so much as a minor bother. Yet she ruled over their lands with an iron grip and allowed Kattegat to thrive beyond imagination. She proved them all wrong, showed them that having power and having strength were two different things.

Fish out of Water pt2

Humans are weird, and when you get the chance to get to know one and understand them better, you take it. But there are rules about interfering with human affairs, and breaking them might come at a higher price than you were willing to pay.

Part 1

Reader x Yoongi

Mermaid Au

Fluff, humor, maybe some angst? Not much though.

Yoongi waited on the beach with two disposable cups of coffee in his hands. The sun had gone down several hours ago, and as soon as he got off work he ran to the nearest coffee shop before hurrying back to the beach. When he opened his eyes earlier that day, he was lying flat in the sand, his clothes and hair soaking wet. He had then wandered home, still dripping wet (Jimin was quite concerned) thinking over what he had seen and what had happened. You must have saved his life—again—after he fainted in the water. That, or he had completely lost his mind.

Either way, finding out that you were a mermaid meant that he could not take you out for coffee after all, or take you out anywhere for that matter. But he had to do something to say thank you, and he had no idea what mermaids liked so he couldn’t buy you a gift. Throughout his whole shift at the restaurant on the pier, he had gone between questioning your existence and questioning how impossible it would be to get to know a mermaid. Finally, he settled on buying coffee and hoping that you would come back at all—then he could figure out what to do next.

He didn’t really expect to see you again—surely if humans didn’t know that mermaids were real, it was that way for a reason. You had already saved his life twice, it didn’t seem quite fair for him to expect you to be there a third time. But there he was, sitting with his toes buried in the sand waiting for a mermaid that might not ever return (or exist).

“What are you doing here? Haven’t you almost drowned enough for a while?” You asked, your head peaking around a column at him.

Yoongi smiled, relief washing over him. “I didn’t know if you would be here, but I wanted to apologize for earlier, and thank you again. I brought you coffee, but…Do mermaids drink coffee?” It had just occurred to him, and he wished he had done some googling before seeing you again.

“I don’t know.” You said, swimming closer. “I guess we’ll find out.” You sat mostly out of the water, your tail splashing lightly as you got comfortable. Yoongi scooted closer so he was sitting next to you, still completely in wonder of your existence and trying to comprehend what was happening.

“It’s a caramel macchiato.” He said as he handed you the cup he bought for you.

“I thought you said it was coffee?” You asked, taking the cup and sniffing it. Yoongi nodded, realizing that you must not know much about the human world.

“It is, it’s just… A fancy kind of coffee.” Yoongi watched as you took the lid off to examine the drink. “Can I ask you something?” He asked after a second. He was trying very hard not to stare at your tail, and preoccupied himself with his own drink.

“I wouldn’t be here if I minded talking to you, so go ahead.” You confirmed. You still hadn’t tried the coffee, but watched as Yoongi sipped his own.

“Are there more… Uh, Mer…people?” It sounded ridiculous out loud, but it was too late to take it back now.

“Oh yes.” You nodded emphatically. “Lots. There are several kingdoms, my father rules one of them.” You said it offhandedly, and Yoongi couldn’t tell how serious you were being.

“Your father is King of the Merpeople?”

“One of them.” You corrected, imitating how he drank his coffee down to the tilt of his head. He watched as some of it poured down your front, and was grateful that it was no longer hot at least. “Oh.” You said, then laughed. “It looked so easy when you did it!”

Yoongi realized that you lived underwater, of course you didn’t drink things. He felt dumb for not realizing it earlier, and was about to apologize when you started talking again.

“I really like this stuff. It’s weird, and makes quite a mess, but it has such an interesting flavor…” You gave him a thumbs-up. “I declare that mermaids do indeed drink coffee! Or, whatever this is.” You brought the cup up to your lips once more, but this time just stuck your tongue in it. “This is a much less-messy way of consuming it.” You informed him, and Yoongi laughed despite himself—maybe it was nerves, he had never met a mermaid—never even imagined that he would—before the previous night.

Past the black where sirens sing

Pairing: Yoongi x Reader

Genre: Siren!Au / Angst / One-shot

Rated T for mentions of blood and mature themes (nothing too heavy tho)

Word count: 3.8k

Synopsis: Two in the morning, during this moonless night, as Yoongi is playing his demons away with slender fingers above the white and black of a piano keys.

And nothing would be different than usual, really, if it wasn’t for the strange girl sitting at his window, claiming to be a siren in love with his music.

Author’s note: for my loved @yoongihime, even tho it’s a couple of days late and she deserves so much more than this <3

I love you, sweetie ❤

Yoongi doesn’t consider himself a believer. He never fell for the shining lure of myths and tales, nor for the solace of a higher being molding the universe – the hell, he didn’t even believe in the monsters under his bed when he was only a naïve tiny child.

These days some people would call him a cynical man, yet Yoongi knows that this is not really the case, for he simply holds his faith closer to the rational state of his mind rather than to the realm of pointless delirium. If the eyes can’t see it, then why should he presume it real, after all?

Just use the damn brain you had the luck to born with, for God’s sake.

So, Yoongi is well aware that all these people always ready to raise their finger at him and mark him as a crude, cold human being would now be left astonished, if they saw him in his room with a completely unamused expression as he stills his fingers above the piano keys and asks “so, what exactly are you?” to the beautiful, strange girl perched on his windowsill.

Catch of the Day (Mermaid Lance Part 2)

1 || 2 || 3

Shiro and Keith had gone, they were docked on the wharf and Lance had a tarpaulin slung over his tank. It was more of a precaution than a necessity but it was better safe than sorry. Lance blew bubbles from his mouth and giggled as they danced up and along his face.

After what felt like hours, Lance was sick of waiting. He was bored and claustrophobic, his eyes felt heavy but he wasn’t sure if it was actual tiredness or just him getting tedious. Soon enough he was sleeping, dreaming about his family. His body went back into defence mode and transformed into the large, scary creature with spikes running up his body.

After literal hours Shiro and Keith made it back, lugging boxes of supplies behind them, they yanked the tarpaulin off of the tank and jumped with surprise as they took note of the monster like thing that was Lance in the tank.

“You wake him, he hasn’t eaten since that fish the other day and he needs to eat something.” Shiro ordered Keith and Keith internally groaned.

Keith…. he still wasn’t comfortable with their situation, he was used to just him and Shiro, alone. Out at sea, away from people, it was easy to forget how to act appropriately in social situations and with Lance who seemed to be very sociable, he struggled. Not seeing the social cues he should have and not gelling with Lance quite like how he had hoped. He liked Lance, he was kind, but he was unfamiliar, a species he hadn’t known existed. Keith didn’t do kindly with odd things.

But he’d try, Shiro seemed to really enjoy having Lance around and was very eager to get to know him. Keith hated to admit, but he was jealous, of who, he wasn’t sure, but he knew didn’t like that Shiro and Lance were becoming close to each other while he was sort of in the background, watching.

Lance, of course, had noticed, Shiro probably as well. Shiro tried to include him but Lance was always trying to actively talk to him, sometimes he’d get small answers sometimes he’d get even shorter answers. There was really no winning with Keith, but Lance didn’t give up.

Keith woke up Lance, reluctant to put his hand in the tank with the spikes all over his body. But he woke him and gave him some of the food they had bought.

The next day Lance was back to normal, he was hanging over the edge of the tank talking to Shiro.

“So, what is the merfolk life like?” Shiro asked as he sat next to the tank, the sun beamed down on them and they basked in the warm light.

“Well, for me it was spending days with my friends, we would explore. Hunk would always pass out when we got near a trench or cavern, afraid we would drag him in. Pidge liked to tease him. That was when we weren’t in the castle though.” Lance waved as he looked off into the air.

“Castle?” Shiro asked, unsure what he meant.

“Yeah, that’s where everyone lives, it’s huge. Alfor’s the king, he runs the whole thing.” Lance explains and sighs with a sad look on his face. “Ahh, I miss them.”

“How did you get lost? I remember you saying something about the current?” Shiro asked as he stood up and checked the lines.

“I was exploring, by myself, and got knocked out, a nearby current must’ve pulled me in and next thing I know I had no idea where I was.” Lance sighed and rubbed at his wound on his side, it was irritated. “Do you have anything I can put on my cut? It’s getting irritated.”

“Ahh, Keith!” Shiro yelled and after a few seconds he came strolling around the side of the boat, “Do we have any salve or something?”

“I think. I’ll go look.” Keith walked away.

“He’s not very social is he?” Lance muttered and dipped under the water for a few seconds before coming back up.

“He was never good with people,”

“I could tell,” At that he giggled and leaned in close to Shiro, “This is just an honest question, but what is your relationship with Keith?”

Shiro raised an eyebrow and tried to act cool but Lance could see the tips of his ears grow red. “Why would you ask that?”

“I just was wondering, I mean you’re both out here alone,” Lance smirked slightly, he wasn’t actually sure if they were dating but they seemed to work very well together. Lance wasn’t sure if he would be happy or upset if they were dating. He didn’t know why he was so unsure, either, or even dwelling on it for too long.

“Well, we’re not, at all. He’s like my brother…. I’m going to go and steer.” Shiro mumbled and left as fast as he could.

The smile fell from Lances face as he stared at the place Shiro once was.

“Here, I found salve, and brought some more bandage” Keith walked around into Lances view with his head down, reading the label on the bottle he was holding. When he glanced up he looked around in confusion. “Where’s Shiro?”

“Ah, he left to steer,” Lance chuckled and leant over the edge of his tank his arm reaching out for the bottle and bandages, “Thanks for getting this, my wound has been really irritating.”

“Your welcome?” Keith said and screwed his face up. “The boat doesn’t need to be steered, what is Shiro doing?”

“Who knows,” Lance smiled and peeled the bandages off of his torso. He winced a bit before opening the bottle and trying to put the salve on his cut but he couldn’t quite reach it all properly. “Keith, could you put this on?”

“……Sure,” Keith muttered unsurely and grabbed the bottle. “Should I…. just put it on?”

“Yeah? Well, I’ve never used this before so I don’t know.” Lance said and shrugged, Keith stepped forward and opened the lid, swiping with his fingers to get some.

Keith reached over the tank and down to Lance’s wound, he smeared some on quickly and stepped away, putting the lid back on he gave it back to Lance and mumbled something about him needing it later.

“See you, Keith,” Lance chuckled as Keith ran out of his sight.

Shiro stacked some boxes, the sun was setting and he was packing the thing they had gotten away properly when suddenly he heard a muffled voice, singing. He knew it was Lance, Keith didn’t sing, he knew how to but he never sung. Shiro found himself swaying gently to the unfamiliar words drifting out of Lances mouth and through the walls separating them. He had a lovely, smooth voice, from what Shiro could tell.

He wanted to go out, to sit next to Lance as he sang a song of his people, but it felt like he’d be intruding, so he simply sat down, with his head against the wall closest to Lance. And he listened. To all the emotion Lance’s voice held, to all the sorrow he could hear. And the faint feeling of woe clenching at his chest.

He listened.

Keith, he was cleaning his blade when he heard it, the beautiful call of a merman to his family. He hated to admit it but he had a lovely voice that he felt like he could listen to all day. He dropped his blade and tiptoed around the corner to peak at Lance, Lance had his arms resting on the edge of his tank and was aiming his song out to over the horizon. The stars twinkled overhead but Lance’s focus was on the ocean, where the fish swam. And where he belonged.

Lances face was downcast with sorrow and Keith felt like maybe he shouldn’t be there. To see someone in such a venerable state was to see the for themselves. Keith felt like he didn’t deserve to see Lance’s true self. Keith almost couldn’t make himself walk away, but he did and he sat down on a chair where his blade sat, but he didn’t go back to cleaning, he just sat.

And he listened.

Keith sat next to the tank, he was sitting in the sun while watching the lines. Shiro was doing something else important so Keith had to do the lines.

“Keith, do you and Shiro date?” Lance asked randomly and smirked with enjoyment as Keith stiffened visibly.

“No, why do you ask?” Keith robotically answered and looked at Lance with rage.

“Curiosity,” Lance shrugged and laughed. “Pretty obvious if you ask me,”

“What did you just say?” Keith growled and glared at Lance who seemed taken aback.

“Well, it’s just that you don’t seem to be in touch with the social side of things, you don’t notice things others might.” Lance explained, trying to defuse the situation as best as possible.

“And what don’t I notice, Lance?” Keith muttered and face Lance fully.

“That you and Shiro seem to go really well together,” Lance said and smirked at Keith as he became confused.

“Of course we do? We’ve known each other since we were kids.”

Lance looked at Keith in a deadpan and sighed. “Whatever. Just, never mind.”

“What’s your problem?” Keith frowned when Lance just shook his head.

“Forget it,”

Humans are weird, and when you get the chance to get to know one and understand them better, you take it. But there are rules about interfering with human affairs, and breaking them might come at a higher price than you were willing to pay.

Part 1, 2

Reader x Yoongi

Mermaid Au

Fluff, humor, maybe some angst? Not much though.

It had been one of those nights that Yoongi couldn’t take a moment to collect his thoughts, just had to keep working until the bar closed. It was packed all night, and by the time it cleared out he was exhausted and his feet hurt. But he wasn’t in a bad mood, unlike some other nights that this happened. He was looking forward to buying ice cream and meeting you under the pier.

“Alright, I’m out.” He said to Jimin when he was done cleaning up.

“Not yet, you’re not.” Jimin said. “There’s some girl here to see you.”

Yoongi frowned at Jimin. He didn’t remember anyone telling him they were going to stop by his work, and couldn’t think of a reason for them to.

“What girl?” He asked, and Jimin shrugged.

“No idea, but she’s been staring at her feet the whole time. I tried to ask her why she was here, but she just said she was here to see you.” Jimin gestured toward the front of the restaurant. “She’s over there.”

Yoongi sighed. “What kind of person wouldn’t even give you a name—“ He stopped talking as he walked closer. You were sitting, staring at your toes—something you definitely did not have last night—wiggling them in wonder.

“Do you know her?” Jimin asked quietly, putting a hand on Yoongi’s shoulder.

“Yeah, I just—I don’t know what she’s doing here. Give us a minute, okay?”

Jimin nodded, and Yoongi made his way over to you. You noticed him approaching, and smiled brightly at him.

“Yoongi! I was so worried that maybe you weren’t here tonight, or that you didn’t want to talk to me, or—don’t faint.”

Yoongi must have looked dizzy—he felt dizzy—and he sat on the bench next to you.

“But you’re…You’re not…You have feet.” Yoongi had just come to terms with you being a mermaid, and now he finds out that you aren’t one? It was all a little disconcerting.

“I know, isn’t it horrible?” Your smile had faded.

“What?” Yoongi really didn’t understand what was happening.

“My father found out about me talking to you.” You sighed.

“The sea king?” Yoongi clarified.

“One of them.” You corrected. “We got in a fight, and he took my tail away.”

“That… Doesn’t make sense.” Yoongi said weakly.

“Do anyone’s parents make sense?” You asked, raising an eyebrow. “I think he’ll let me return to the sea soon, but I don’t know what to do until then. I was hoping you could help me?”

Other people might have accused you of lying about being a mermaid in the first place, that perhaps this was all a scam. But Yoongi knew deep down that wasn’t the case. He had seen the complete wonder in your eyes as he talked about living on land, had even touched your tail. There was always something so genuine about you that he didn’t question it.

“Of course. What can I do?”

“I just need somewhere to sleep, I won’t bother you for anything else.” You assured him, and Yoongi frowned down at your feet.

“You can stay with me. I live in a group house, so there’ll be other people around, but it’s safe. I’ll sleep on the couch, I don’t mind. You’ll need shoes. And some actual clothes. This—“ He pulled the sleeve of the bathing suit cover. “Wouldn’t work even if it did fit you.”

You shook your head. “I hate to ask all of this from you, Yoongi. I’ll pay you back, somehow. I promise. Also, what’s a couch?”

“I’ll explain, but first—why don’t we get you some shoes.”

You decided that you didn’t particularly care for the strange things humans wore on their feet called “flip-flops.” Not only were they difficult to walk in, they kept falling off.

“Sorry, I have a moped but I walked today… It would have saved your feet some trouble.”

“Is that a kind of shoe?” You asked, slipping your foot into the flip-flop for what felt like the millionth time that night.

Yoongi laughed slightly. “No, it’s a motorized scooter…” When you stared blankly at Yoongi, he tried a different explanation. “You know what a bike is, right?” You nodded, noticing something shiny on the ground and picking it up to study it.

“Yep, I see those a lot along the beach all the time.”

“It’s kind of similar to that, in a way. But you don’t have to pedal it, and the seat is different.”

“That sounds strange.” You said, flipping over the shiny thing. “What is this?” You asked, holding it out to Yoongi.

“A quarter. You can use it to buy things.”

“What kind of things?” You asked, walking ahead of him. You had no idea where you were going, so Yoongi didn’t know how you were so confident in the direction you were walking in.

“Clothes, shoes, food… Most things.”

You nodded thoughtfully as Yoongi caught up to you, then you reached over and took his hand. You turned it palm-up and placed the quarter in his hand, closing his fingers around it.

“For the flip-flops, and letting me stay with you.” You said, giving him a smile.

Yoongi shook his head, trying to return the coin to you. “You should keep it, you found it.”

“And now I’m giving it to you.” You said, shaking your head. “I have to pay you something, right?”

Yoongi couldn’t help his laugh. “You really don’t. But okay, if that’s what you want. Thank you.” He pocketed the quarter. “This is where I live, by the way.” He pointed to a tall house, painted a dark blue. It looked fairly well taken care of, but old, and there were patches on the roof.

“I like it.” You said happily, following him up the stairs and through the front door.

Yoongi had hoped that everyone would have already gone to bed, but Seokjin and Jungkook were playing a video game, elbowing and shoving each other on the couch occasionally.

“There’s food in the fridge if you’re hungry.” Seokjin said, not looking up.

“I’m surprised you’re back so early, I thought you had a date…” Jungkook stopped when he saw you, which made Seokjin look up as well. “Oh.”

“Don’t make too much noise, Taehyung has work first thing tomorrow morning.” Seokjin said, and Yoongi’s eyes widened.

“No, it’s not like that—she just needs somewhere to stay for tonight. Which means I’m going to need the couch.”

Jungkook tried to brush some chip crumbs (and who knows what else) as Seokjin nodded in understanding.

“Well in that case, welcome.” He stood, walking over to you with his hand outstretched. “My name is Seokjin, that’s Jungkook, and I can introduce you to everyone else in the morning. There’s food in the fridge if you’d like some, and let me know if you need anything.”

You leaned sideways toward Yoongi’s ear. “What’s a fridge?” You half-whispered.

“It’s a box that keeps things cold.” He replied, just as quietly. When Seokjin raised an eyebrow at him, he nodded his head to the side, indicating for the two of them to step away from you and Jungkook. “Can I talk to you for a second?”

“Yoongi, who is this girl?” Seokjin asked, watching as you walked over to the tv and tapped the screen.

“Someone I owe a lot to. Is it okay if she stays here for a few days?”

Seokjin glanced from you and back to Yoongi. “Did I hear her ask what a fridge was?”

Yoongi sighed. “She’s not… From here.”

“Yoongi? Why are there small people stuck in a box?” You asked, and Seokjin gave Yoongi a look.

“Not from here? Where is she from then?”

“Please, Seokjin. It’ll only be for a few days, I promise.” Yoongi said, avoiding the question. Seokjin was the owner of the house’s nephew, and had complete power to kick out anyone he wished.

“We’re already pretty full, Yoongi. Seven people in one house is a lot, and you want to add another?” At Yoongi’s silence, Seokjin sighed. “She doesn’t have anywhere else to stay?”

Yoongi shook his head. “I’m the only person she knows here. I can’t just leave her on the street.”

Seokjin sighed, looked up at the ceiling, and then back at Yoongi. “Okay. A few days. But then she either has to start paying rent, or move somewhere else.”

“Thanks Seokjin, I owe you.” Yoongi looked over to where you were now sitting with Jungkook happily eating Doritos. He caught you eye and smiled. “Come on, I’ll show you to where you’ll be staying.”

Yoongi found some of his clothes for you to wear, laying them on the bed as you wandered around the room.

“Being up this high doesn’t bother you?” You asked, looking out his window. It was only on the second floor, and heights had never particularly bothered Yoongi.

“I guess I never thought about it.” He said, glancing up as you stepped away from the window. “I’ll step out while you change, okay?” You agreed as he stepped out, pulling the door shut behind him.

Yoongi waited for what felt like forever in the hall, and was about to knock on the door and ask you if you were okay when he heard you scream.

“Are you okay? What happened?” Yoongi asked, opening the door and hurrying in. You walked out of the adjoining bathroom to look at him, your eyes wide. You were wearing his jeans and a hoodie, which already looked a bit strange because they didn’t fit. But you were also wet, as though you had been standing in the rain.

“Is everything alright?” Seokjin asked, peaking into the room, concern on his face.

“You have a waterfall in your house.” You said in wonder, pointing to the shower that was still running. Yoongi hurried past you to turn the water off, and sighed when he saw Seokjin’s face.

“Everything’s fine.” He said, walking back over to shut the door on the older man. “Good night, Seokjin.”

Yoongi only hoped that he could either think of a reasonable excuse for you in the morning, or that you would be gone soon. He guessed that too many questions probably weren’t the best idea for a once-mermaid-now-human who was trying to appear normal, and he was determined to help you. It was the least he could do after you saved his life. It was just going to be a bit complicated, that was all.

A/N Yay I updated finally! I was thinking about updating Disposable, but then I decided to update this instead. I only semi-proofread this, so I’ll check it again in the morning if I get the chance.
