Mergana AU :  He sees her face on the cover of a magazine that he can’t recall its name. He’s stunned at first. Heart throbbing painfully inside his chest, as he stares at her face. He thought that he’d forgotten what she looked like. But he recognized her instantly. He goes straight to her. It’s easy to get access to her office. What’s not easy was facing her. His heart skips a beat when she comes into her office. She doesn’t look surprised to see him. Him on the other hand can’t find the words to say anything.

Enchanted by the magic of your heart (by the softness of your lips, the spark of your mind, the taste of your skin…)

Organised Chaos

Tina: *looks at Newt’s desk in horror* His desk is a mess. How does he find anything?

Graves: It’s like this. Newt, babe, can you hand me that DeVere report?

Newt: *pulls out report from a pile and hands it to Graves while keeping his attention on the baby dragon on his lap*

Graves: And I need that draft on how to deal with dragons when my aurors encounter them during a sting operation.

Newt: *picks up a folder from Merlin knows where and hands it over*

Graves: Oh, I’m looking for one more thing.

Newt: What’s that, Perry?

Graves: My kiss.

Newt: *stands up, dragon egg carefully cradled in arms, leans over desk and kisses Graves on the cheek* I’m making dinner tonight. Chinese or Italian?

Graves: Anything as long as I can get it or don’t get food poisoning. *turns to Tina* It’s organized chaos, Goldstein. Organized chaos.

Later, at Graves house

Graves: *looks at the Chinese, Indian, Italian, Filipino and African food set out on the table* Organized chaos.

Dear Journal,

I woke up after our nap and found Sirius awake next to me. He was leaning on his elbow looking at Teddy, who was babbling to his two stuffed animals. When the little Teddy saw I was awake, he layed his hands on my cheeks and kissed the tip of my nose. He giggled and tapped his hand together.

“Merlin I can’t get over the fact that he’s our son now..” Sirius said.

“I know..” i said, looking at our beautiful baby boy.

“Do you like playing with your Padfoot?” Sirius asked Teddy.

“Padda.” Teddy said.

Sirius looked at me with big eyes.

“Did he just say padfoot?..” I asked.

“Say it again Teddy.. padfoot!” Sirius said, pointing his finger to his own chest, showing Teddy who was Padfoot.

“Padda.” Teddy said again, pointing at his black dog stuffed animal.

Sirius and I laughed. I picked up Teddy and we walked to the kitchen. Sirius made some grilled cheese lunch while I heated a bottle of milk for Teddy. Lily told me to always make sure it wasn’t to hot by putting some on my wrist.

“Who wants a grilled cheese?” Sirius yelled so Regulus could ear him from the library downstairs.

“Padda!” Teddy laughed.

“Padda wants a grilled cheese?” Sirius asked, playing the baby’s game.

Teddy nodded, still laughing. Sirius took a grilled cheese and a Teddy’s stuffed animal and made the black dog eat the grilled cheese. Teddy laughed uncontrolably and i smiled to myself, thinking that this would be my life everyday from now on. Sirius gave Teddy his Padfoot back and took a bite out of the grilled cheese. I sat Teddy in his high chair and gave him his milk bottle. He took it in his small hands and began drinking.

“Are Lily and James coming later?” I asked Sirius.

“Yeah James said they would be here in a few minutes. They can’t wait to meet you my little Teddy bear!” Sirius said, tickling Teddy from his side of the table. Teddy giggled and Continued drinking his warm milk.

A few minutes later Lily and James arrived. I took Teddy and my arms while Sirius went to open the door.

“Where is the little buddy?!” Lily asked.

When Teddy saw that there was a lot of people he became shy. He burried his face in my neck and i held him closer.

“It’s okay Teddy.. It’s only James and Lily.. Do you want to just say hi? Just a little wave?” I asked, tickling my finger on his cheek.

He softly nodded and took hold of my finger with his little hand and waving to James and Lily with his other.

“Hi Buddy!” James said, waving at him.

“Oh he is so adorable!” Lily said.

“Do you want to show your Padda to James and Lily?” I asked Teddy.

He nodded and I layed him on the fluffy carpet of the living room so he could play with his toys. He didn’t know how to walk yet but he like walking on all fours. Lily sat next to him and he showed her his stuffed animals. Lily looked at me and laughed, realizing it was a black dog and a wolf.

“Did you get him a Moony and a Padfoot?” She said.

“Padda!” Teddy said.

“Oh remus he’s so cute!” Lily said.

Teddy stared at Lily’s baby bump and touched it with his finger. He looked really confused.

“There is a baby in my tummy!” Lily said.

“Padda?” Teddy asked.

“No it’s not a Padda..” Lily laughed.

All night long, Teddy was an angel. He got tired after dinner so Sirius and I went to lay him in his crib while James, Lily and Regulus finished eating.

“Goodnight my Teddy bear.” Sirius whispered, kissing Teddy’s forehead.

“Sleep well baby..” I whispered too, laying Teddy’s blanket on his small figure.

Sirius took his wand and did a quick spell to make both of our patronuses fly over Teddy’s crib. He looked at me and smilled, kissing my lips.

8i for the ficlet thing

Ahhhhhh I don’t know how to make things short anymoreeeeee.

***

Dr. Merlin Emrys was the best forensic scientist in Camelot City. He was detailed and thorough in everything he did. There was never a scrap of evidence out of place or a particle forgotten when Merlin was working on a case. It was probably the only reason Super Special Agent Prat-dragon put up with Merlin for so long. Especially when Merlin called his boss, Special Agent Arthur Pendragon, any variation of his real name. It was a miracle Merlin hadn’t been sacked for insubordination.

Arthur usually said that he only kept Merlin around because no one else could identify ‘random shit’ like Merlin could. Merlin took it as a compliment since the evidence he found was usually essential to their cases. Once Arthur even admitted that without Merlin his team would have been dead in the water on a few cases.

Despite all Arthur’s talk, Merlin was fairly certain that Arthur kept him around because Arthur actually liked him. Merlin had been added to Pendragon’s team five years ago, and despite a rocky start, Merlin and Arthur had clicked within that first year. Their minds worked in sync and as soon as Arthur had something, Merlin was one step behind him. They were two peas in a pod, despite the fact that they bantered more than they talked. They saw each other everyday. If it wasn’t at the morning report, it was lunch in the cafeteria, or Arthur visiting Merlin in his lab. Arthur often brought Merlin his favorite coffee from Dragons Cafe with a perfect amount of whipped cream (too much whipped cream in Arthur’s opinion). Merlin also knew that Arthur went in person to get the coffee, instead of sending a terrified lackey, because the cups always said ‘Arthur’ on the sides. They had become a pair, and Merlin had thought perhaps if they hadn’t met at work…there would be something more there too.

lilmissginge  asked:

for the otp meme: merthur, 1-30? ^^

1) Who is the most affectionate?

Merlin’s definitely the more likely to initiate PDA. Arthur tends to get a little embarrassed by it if anyone’s around, but he always accepts it anyway cuz he can’t get enough of it. He’s just a little too repressed to reach out himself, always a tiiiny bit afraid that he’ll be rebuffed.

2) Big spoon/Little spoon?

ARTHUR IS THE LITTLE SPOON TO MERLIN’S BIG SPOON. IT MAKES HIM FEEL SAFE AND CHERISHED.

3) Most common argument?

They don’t communicate very well. They both tend to make decisions for the both of them without consulting the other, Arthur because he forgets that Merlin’s opinion might differ from his and Merlin because he just assumes he knows what Arthur’s answer will be already so doesn’t need to ask, and that doesn’t usually turn out very well.

4) Favorite non-sexual activity?

Anything that they can make into a competition, lol. They will compete on anything, like monopoly or how far they can skip rocks or who can carry more grocery bags in from the car at once, and make the most outrageous and ridiculous bets on it. The bets are a competition in and of themselves, tbh, just getting sillier and pettier every time (the number of times they have had to literally lick each other’s boots is just stupid). It’s all in good fun, tho, and there’s plenty of laughs all around either way it goes.

5) Who is most likely to carry the other?

Like literally carry? Arthur. He’s got the muscles and he can hoist Merlin up without much trouble. (Merlin can lift Arthur if he really wants to but it’s not a particularly fun or romantic experience for either of them, lol).

6) What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Arthur has a thing for Merlin’s hands. They’re long and nimble and gentle and strong all at once. And Merlin, for his part, just really loves Arthur’s eyes. They’re a different kind of blue than his own, a lighter clearer kind, and he loves them a lot. Arthur gets embarrassed when Merlin just wants to stare longingly into his eyes tho, sometimes that’s just too intimate (at least when he realizes that’s what’s happening, lol, other times they just get caught up in each other and don’t notice that it’s been twenty seconds since they last blinked or looked away).

7) What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

They get awkward as fuck. Arthur is normally a very confidence person, but as soon as he’s faced with someone whose opinion he actually cares about, he gets rambly and blushy and drops things and tries waaaay too hard. Merlin’s slightly better off, but he’s twice as likely to trip on air and will cut and run (sometimes mid-sentence) if he thinks he’s making an idiot of himself.

8) Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

They’re not really big on nicknames. Occasionally Merlin will take a leaf out of Gwaine’s book and call Arthur princess, but he does so in full knowledge that Arthur will make him pay for.

9) Who worries the most?

Merlin is MADE of worry. It is his natural state of being and nothing can stop it. Arthur worries when they’re in dangerous circumstances of course, Merlin is his top priority then, but Merlin just worries all the time about everything.

10) Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

That’s something Arthur makes an effort to learn and remember. It’s one of those things that he sort of considers a Boyfriend Thing, and he always feels warm and fuzzy and accomplished when it makes Merlin smile.

11) Who tops?

They switch a lot. They both have a slight preference for top!Merlin.

12) Who initiates kisses?

Merlin really really really likes kissing. He will kiss Arthur at every opportunity, will make any excuse, would happily forgo sex entirely if he could just keep kissing him. (Not that Arthur minds.)

13) Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

This ties back to that “Arthur has a thing for Merlin’s hands” thing.

14) Who kisses the hardest?

When Merlin gets on a roll, he goes hard. He spends a lot of his time playing himself off as weak, but he’s not. And when he wants something? Really wants it? He will take it.

15) Who wakes up first?

Merlin is much more of a morning person than Arthur is (if either of them can be considered as such. It’s more of a 10am vs noon kind of thing, lol).

16) Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

Arthurrrrr

17) Who says I love you first?

Merlin has no trouble saying it. He knows long before he lets the words out of his mouth, and he only holds them back because he knows Arthur isn’t ready to hear them yet. Even after Arthur can accept the words from Merlin, it still takes a little while before he can bring himself to say them back. He just wasn’t brought up with love being an open or obvious thing.

18) Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Since Merlin’s the one who almost always makes the lunches, the notes are most commonly his. Sometimes they’re sappy. Usually they’re snarky/sarcastic/actual reminders of things he knows Arthur has forgotten he needs to do.

19) Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

They’re both a little reluctant at first, if only because of their widely different demographics. Merlin with the working class, Arthur the highbrow crowd. They both worry a bit how their friends will react and if they’ll be assholes about it, and Arthur especially worries about his father’s opinion. Arthur’s friends come first because Merlin refuses to be hidden, and also he’s very outspoken and in-your-face about his social position, which they like. Then come Merlin’s friends (Will thinks Arthur is a posh prick but the rest of them don’t mind him), then Hunith, and then Uther. Later. Much much later.

20) What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

It grows on them. Everyone’s a little wary of it to start with, but they prove themselves to each other’s people before too long. (Except Uther. Uther never quite warms up to Merlin completely, tho he does accept it.)

21) Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Arthur will totally do the whole slow-dancing-in-an-empty-room-to-no-music-just-cuz-he-wants-to-be-close thing. Just so he can get his hands on Merlin and also make him smile helplessly cuz it’s so damn sappy.

22) Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?

Arthur is not allowed in the kitchen. Not anymore.

23) Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Arthur really honestly thinks his lines are smooth. Merlin never tells him otherwise cuz it is just too good and so worth the secondhand embarrassment to see Arthur look so pleased with himself.

24) Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?

Meeerrrrrrliiiin. He will say anything to fluster Arthur in important meetings and make him go red in the face.

25) Who needs more assurance?

Arthur’s insecurities don’t get the best of him often, but sometimes they sneak up on him. Then he just needs a reminder or two that Merlin really likes him, not his money or his position or what Arthur can do for him. It’s hard for him to believe that anyone can love him unconditionally for him.

26) What would be their theme song?

Is that even a question? A Thousand Years. Duh.

27) Who would sing to their child back to sleep?

Hunith used to sing to Merlin when he was little, so of course Merlin does the same for his kids. Arthur rolls his eyes and says it’s silly, but it’s only a few weeks before Merlin overhears him humming while he rocks the baby back to sleep.

28) What do they do when they’re away from each other?

Pine. A lot. Talk on the phone all the damn time, so much so that it probably irritates whoever they’re with.

29) one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart

Arthur has a tendency to distance himself at the first sign of trouble. It’s easier than getting hurt, and it protects him from potential rejection. Merlin can’t leave him if he leaves first, and this way if Merlin does leave then at least it was HIS choice. It only takes two instance of this for Merlin to catch onto what was happening in Arthur’s head, and honestly it just made that particular argument worse because how dare he just give up on this?? How dare he not fight for them?? But after that, when he’s calmed down, he does recognize the insecurity and fear behind it and knows better how to head it off before it reaches the point where Arthur starts withdrawing.

30) one headcanon about this OTP that mends it

Merlin bites his fingernails when he gets nervous or stressed out. Arthur starts pulling his hand away from his mouth whenever he notices him doing it, holding Merlin’s hand against his chest and kissing his fingertips to convince him to stop. It sort of backfires cuz now Merlin starts nibbling on his fingers specifically to get Arthur to be so gentle and concerned with him. It’s all very sappy and sweet and this headcanon will never leave me alone.

‘  Merlin: I swear if he touches her one more time…

Arthur: You’ll do what? Fight him?

Merlin: Why, you think I can’t fight him?

Arthur: You won’t stand a chance with a toddler yet alone a knight like Gwaine

  Merlin: ….

Arthur: It’s all right. Y/N likes you too much for her own good anyway. She won’t do anything. On the other hand Gwaine.

Merlin: Don’t finish that sentence. Oh bloody hell is he… OI GWAINE! GET YOUR GRUBBY HANDS OFF OF Y/N!   ‘

Arthur grabbed a handful of Merlin’s tunic and dragged him down the sidewalk to the storefront window. Beyond the glass stood a statue wearing long blue robes speckled with stars, and a pointed blue hat covered with crescent moons.

“Is that-?“ Arthur gasped, and his face was going to split with his grin, absolutely it was, he could feel it. “That’s- It’s a-“

“Merlin the Magician Costume, yes,” Merlin said impatiently, reading the sign at the base of the statue.

Arthur looked at him with wide delighted eyes, then burst out laughing.

Merlin gave a loud put-upon huff. “It’s not that funny.”

Arthur laughed so hard that he had to bend forward, hands on knees. He was barely able to speak because of it. “You simply must- get those- robes-”

“I already have them.“

Arthur’s head jerked up. “What?”

Merlin crossed his arms over his chest. Defiant and embarrassed in equal measure, judging by the pink in his cheeks. “I said, I have them.”

Arthur pictured Merlin actually wearing the catastrophe of a costume, and burst out laughing again, even harder than before.

“You are being such an arse,” Merlin said, pulling Arthur by the arm back to his horse and shoving him toward it.

“I remember!” Arthur said, as he climbed back into his saddle. “The night I came back from Avalon! When you were still an old man! You had them on then!”

“I wear them for the Solstice Festival,” Merlin informed him as he climbed on his own horse. “It’s tradition,” he added defiantly, before urging his mare down the narrow street between the rows of parked cars.

It took several minutes of chuckling before Arthur got control of himself again. He had to wipe tears from his face, and even rub at his cheeks, because they were actually aching from smiling. He couldn’t even remember the last time that had happened.

“Merlin?” he called.

“What?“

“Do you have the hat too?”

"Never mind!”

“You do, don’t you!”

“Yes, all right? God you are such a-!”

“I think I shall command you to wear it,“ Arthur called, joyful at the mere thought of it, because oh my yes, Merlin in that hat-

“Not a chance,” Merlin said over his shoulder, though his own amusement was plain in his voice now.

“We’ll see about that, Merlin the Magician.”

“Yes we will, Once and Future Pain in my Arse.”

My Shot - Arthur Pendragon

Fic #3 of the Hamilton Prompts
Song: My Shot

You woke up to the sunlight shining in your eyes, which was confusing for two reasons. One: usually one of the servants woke you up before then. Two: Arthur wasn’t in bed next to you. He always got you up when he did. He was in the room, however. You could hear him changing behind the screen. You picked up your pillow and threw it at the screen. It knocked over and Arthur shouted.

“What the hell?” he asked, poking his head out. You shrugged and smirked at him. He shook his head and was clearly trying to fight off the smile growing on his face.

“Morning.”

“Good morning,” he said, walking out from behind the screen. He pulled his shirt over his head, so you only got a glimpse of his abs.

“Why didn’t you wake me?”

“I wanted to watch you sleep.” You snorted. “I also was waiting for this to arrive.” Merlin stepped in and handed Arthur a rather large box. Merlin waited there, an eager smile on his face until Arthur shot him a look. You gigged as Merlin walked away.

“What’s that?” you asked.

“For you,” Arthur said, walking towards the bed. He sat down on the bed and handed you the box. You twisted your lips and studied him.

“Why?”

“I can’t just by something because I love you?”

“No, you can and that’s a very kind thought, but I can’t help but wonder what your ulterior motives are.” Arthur looked at you plainly, clearly trying to show you that he was being honest.

Normally, you wouldn’t be this demanding when Arthur did something sweet, but you two hadn’t been getting along so well lately. Arthur was challenged to a duel with a man who had already killed four knights. You begged Arthur not to take it up, but he wouldn’t hear of it. He said if you didn’t like it you didn’t have to be there.

Ever since then, he had been trying to make up for that exchange.

“Well thank you,” you said, lifting the lid off to reveal a gorgeous green gown. “Oh, Arthur, it’s gorgeous.” You leaned forward and hugged him. Arthur held on to your back firmly and didn’t let go for a longer time than usual. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” he said after kissing you. “You’ll wear it today?”

“Sure.” He grinned and stood up.

“Good. I’ll see you a little later, okay?” You nodded and he was gone, off to a meeting with some of his knights.

You had changed into the gown and had spent time helping out Gauis. A week earlier, a village on the far side of the kingdom had lost all of their crops in a large fire, so you were housing them and healing the burn victims. However, it was past noon now and you hadn’t eaten anything yet. You expected to find Arthur in the throne room to invite him to lunch with you, but as you were walking back towards the castle, your attention was drawn by a sword fight.

More accurately, your attention was drawn by a sparring between the knights. This was odd because they usually trained in the morning, not the afternoon. You walked towards them, finding that Arthur was facing Gwaine right now. You stood next to Elyan who smiled over at you.

“Hello, Y/N,” he said. A second later, his smile fell and everyone looked over at you. Arthur and Gwaine even stopped fighting. Arthur pulled off his helmet and looked at you.

“What are you doing here?”

“Am I not allowed?” you asked, looking around nervously.

“No. Of course you are, we were just-”

“Busy,” Gwaine said. You looked over at him and he smiled.

“Busy training?” you asked. He nodded and your head snapped back to Arthur. “I thought we were past this,” you said. He rolled his eyes and walked towards the other side of the field. He took a drink, but you didn’t stop looking at him. “Arthur.”

“Now’s not the time.”

“When would you like to talk about this? Later today when you’re slain.”

“I’m not going to die!” he yelled. Your face hardened and you shook your head. Now it made sense why he had given you the dress. You continued to shake your head to stop yourself from screaming or crying and walked towards the castle. “Y/N. Wait.”

You didn’t. You were already inside when Arthur finally did catch up to you. He grabbed onto your arm when you didn’t turn around, but still you pulled your arm away.

“Y/N, please,” he said. You sighed. You were already half way up the stairs. You caved and looked at him.

“What?”

“I didn’t want to hide this from you.”

“I don’t know how you thought you could have. I live here, too.”

“I know. It was foolish of me to try.” You sighed and smiled a little. “But I have to do this.”

“No you don’t.” He sighed and sat down on the steps, putting his head in his hands.

“You don’t understand.” You mimicked his movements and sat next to him. You scooted closer until your knees were touching.

“Explain it to me. What don’t I understand?” He looked up at you and you nodded once, encouraging him.

“It’s time that I prove myself to the people. Not just a handful of them, and not just with my name.”

“Arthur, you’ve already done that.”

“On a small scale. But with this tournament, I could finally prove myself to them.”

“But you won’t get to prove anything to them if you die.”

“You don’t have any faith in me.”

“Yes I do,” you said, taking his hand in yours. “But I also care about you and love you. I don’t want to watch you kill yourself just to prove something you don’t have to. You’re already a great king, Arthur, you don’t have to do anything extra. Just wait, the-”

I’m past patiently waiting, Y/N! I’m going to passionately smash every expectation set on me. Every action I take is an act of creation. I’m laughing in the face of casualties and sorrow, for the first time, I’m thinking past tomorrow.”

“So am I. I’m thinking about a tomorrow without you.”

“Think about a tomorrow with a better king.”

“You already are a better king than you were yesterday. I already imagine you like that.”

I’m not throwing away my shot, Y/N,” he said finally. You frowned and looked down at your entwined hands.

“I know.” You released his hand and stood up. He looked up at you hopefully as you walked up the stairs. You went into your room, and Arthur didn’t follow. You sat there for a long time until it was nearly tournament time.n;t

Although every fiber of your body was telling you not to go, you went. You found Merlin and had him bring you to the tent where Arthur was getting ready in. He looked surprised to see you, but still smiled.

“Hi,” you said.

“Hi. Could you give us a minute?” he asked Merlin. He nodded and scooted out of the tent.

“Need help?” you asked, already walking forward to tighten his armor. He stood still as you worked, and smiled when you pulled away.

“Thank you. I didn’t think you were coming.”

“Of course I came.” You held your breath as you looked at him. He frowned a little and you immediately ran into his arms. It was hard to hug him like this. Arthur was muscular, but he was soft and warm to hug. Every part of his body would curl and form into yours - yet, in this armor, he was hard and closed off. That didn’t stop you from holding on tight.

“I love you,” he said.

“And I believe in you,” you whispered. He hugged you tighter, which you didn’t think was possible. A horn sounded from outside, signaling that it was time for the match. “Time to take your shot,” you said. He nodded. “Good luck.”

You walked out to the stands and took a seat. You watched as Arthur walked out onto the field, and waited for the other night. You felt your breath catch in your throat when you saw him, and tried to remember how hard and cold Arthur felt when you hugged him. No one could hurt something like that, you told yourself.

You watched in horror as they fought, each blow making you flinch. Near the end, you were sure you were about to watch the love of your life die, but the knight’s sword slipped magically and Arthur delivered a killer blow. The crowd went insane, but you couldn’t scream. In fact, you felt like crying.

Arthur pulled off his helmet and nodded at you first. You nodded back and you could see him sigh. Arthur rose up, and he would continue to rise up.

“Okay.” You sighed, “You ready?”

He nodded, grabbing you hand and taking a deep breath and looking at his straightened tie. “Okay.” You continued, a small smile creeping on your lips, “So you can’t stare at anyone and make sure not drink anything. Especially not anything too brightly colored. Oh and stay close! Oh and Credence?” You smiled, squeezing his hand, reviving a small hmm from him, “Thank you for coming with me.” You hugged him tightly. Causing a small smile to escape onto his lips as he slowly wrapped his arms around your waist and his nose into your hair. Letting go, you looked at him with twinkling eyes and a nod, turning swiftly to the door and doing the secret knock, grabbing Credence’s hand as the door swung open and walking inside the club.

Up!” Merlin demanded cheerfully. “Who knew that brave King Arthur was such a lazy sod? Good thing he has a new court magician to wake him up in the mornings.”
“I hate you,” Arthur groaned, but he sat up and rubbed the sleep-sand from his eyes.
“I will enchant a cock to sit outside your window.” Merlin handed Arthur his breeches from where they had been lying crumpled on the floor, and Arthur yanked them on. “A dazzling black and green cock that will crow the hour every morning, and twice on Sabbath days.”
“Do so, and I will kill the damn bird,” Arthur growled.
“I will make it immortal,” Merlin countered, still grinning. “No, even better–strike down one, and two will rise in its place.”
“I am going to regret giving you this job, won’t I?

“What other hidden talents do you have?”

“Would it be okay if I kissed you?”

“Are you sure it’s safe going out in the wood’s today?” Merlin asked as he trailed closely behind you as you both walked down the corridor from Gauis’s workroom. “Gauis said we’re supposed to get a storm.”

You looked over your shoulder to him and smiled, throwing your cloak over your shoulders and tying the red string.”Merlin, I don’t think a little rain will kill me.”

“Perhaps I could go with you?” He offered, moving sharply to stand in front of you, blocking your pathway.

Your eyes went wide for a second when he suddenly appeared in your sight but you gave him a sideways look. “You’re acting very strange,” You pointed as you took a step towards him, placing the back of your hand on his forehead. “Are you feeling well?”

Merlin’s eyes met yours and his cheeks suddenly heated up, adorning them with a light pink hue. “N-No?” He said with an embarrassed laugh.

“You’re warm, perhaps you should go back to Gaius,” You suggested as you withdrew your hand. “I think you might have a fever.”

For fear of embarrassing himself further, Merlin nodded silently and quickly walked passed you, tripping on his feet as he did so, causing you to send him another worried look.

“…I meant to do that.” He covered quickly, straightening himself up and clearing his throat as he walked away at a fast pace.

Merlin kept his gaze locked on the ground until he was safely out of your eyesight before he crashed into the nearest wall, leaning his head back on th cool stone and placing his hands over his eyes as he sighed.

“Well,” A voice called obnoxiously, causing Merlin’s eyes to shoot open as he saw Prince Arthur standing a few feet away from him with his arms folded and a knowing smirk on his stupid face. “That was pitiful.”

Merlin groaned as he pushed himself from the wall. “How much of that did you hear?”

“All of it,” Arthur said as he gave him a look. “I also thoroughly enjoyed the part where you tripped on your own two feet.”

Merlin adverted his eyes and toyed with his scarf, opting to stay silent instead of making the whole situation worse for him.

Arthur raised an eyebrow at the absence of some clever remark that usually came after his teasing. “Come along, I have a coat that needs to be mended.” He called as he turned around and started walking in the other direction.

Though Merlin was grateful for distraction in repairing the many tears on the seams of Arthur’s hunting coat, he could help but be worried for you. The wind had already started to pick up and howl against the panes of the castle windows.

The clouds were swirling in a more moody shade of grey, and after only a few moments, rain started to fall and leave wispy patterns on the clear glass.

“Then whenever you’re done you can take my sword to the armory and-” Arthur stopped talking whenever he realized Merlin was staring blankly at the window. “I suppose I’m talking to myself then?” He asked as his voice rose.

Merlin’s attention slowly snapped back to the blonde prince and he blinked. “Sorry, we’re you talking to me?”

Arthur looked at him sideways. “No, actually I was referring to the unicorn in the corner of the room.” He said with a sarcastic tone. “Yes, I’m bloody talking to you. You’ve been giving sad eyes to the windows since you stepped foot in this room,” He stood from his chair and walked to the other end of the window. “So, tell me what’s wrong with you.”

Merlin’s eyes shot to his for a moment before they drifted back to the window. “It’s (Y/n), she’s out in the woods collecting some herbs for Gaius, and I can’t help but worry.”

“Because you fancy her?” Arthur asked, although he was well aware of the answer.

Merlin’s nervous laugh escaped his throat as he scratched the dark hair at the back of his neck. “I-I dunno if I’d call it that, but I do worry about her well being.”

Arthur rolled his eyes at the awful attempt of a lie his friend was trying to pull. “I highly doubt a little storm could hold back our (Y/n). You have nothing to worry about.”

Merlin smiled and was about to thank him when a large roll of thunder sounded in their eyes and lighting flashed clashed across the sky. Now it was Arthur’s turn to laugh nervously. “I’m sure she’s on her way home now, don’t worry.”

Merlin didn’t say much for the next hour, trying his best to quickly get all of his work done so he could go see if you had returned safe and sound. Arthur must have noticed the nervous fidget of Merlin’s movements because it didn’t take long for him to dismiss him and practically push him out of the door of his chambers and telling Merlin to say hello to you on his behalf.

Merlin jogged his down the staircases and corridors until he was finally at the door of his and Guias’s room. He took the opportunity to catch his break and fix his hair, making sure his clothes looked presentable and pulled open the door.

Unfortunately to his dismay, Merlin was greeted with the empty room instead of you sitting by the fire with Gaius as you read another book listening all the medical herbs in the kingdom.

“Gaius?” Merlin called out as he stepped inside, checking for any signs of you being there.

“Here!” Came his voice from the adjoining room. “You’re early.” The older man said as he dropped a pile of books onto the wooden work table.

“Arthur let me out early.” Merlin said as he walked further into the room, trying to hide the fact that his mind was racing and trying to figure out where you could be.

“Before you ask, no she hasn’t returned since I sent her off.” Gaius said as he raised a hand and sat down on his bench.

“But shouldn’t that worry you?” Merlin asked his hands tightly wound together and apart as his mind went.

“She’s a grown woman who is more than capable in handling herself, sit down and wait with me.” Gaius said as he opened one of his books. “Light a few candles for me and try to calm yourself.”

Merlin quickly set about his task, shamelessly using magic when his hands kept fumbling the matches. Thought he eyes darted to the door every time he heard a noise, thinking you would appear.

Gaius continued to assure him of your safety, explaining you often liked to take your time in the forests regardless of the weather, once even telling him how in nature is where you felt the most at peace and calm.

Merlin finally came to rest as he sat down opposite Gaius and rested his head in his folded arms, head facing the door so he could keep watch for you.

Time passed and Merlin felt his eyes growing heavy as the fatigue from the day started to catch up with him. His eyes were closed for a maybe a minute or so when the door finally creaked opened.

Merlin was up in an instant and his heart leaped when he saw the embroidered swirls in the deep crimson of your cloak and the woven basked you always carried brimming with colorful flowers and plants.

You turned around and looked at them. “Sorry, I’m so late,” You said through breathless pauses as you dropped the basket next to Gaius. “But I was able to find everything you needed and then some.”

Gaius let out a delighted chuckle as he searched through the herbs. “I must say, you are the best at what you do.”

You removed the hood of your cloak and Merlin finally realized the state of your appearance.

Your hair was dripping from the rain and strands of it stuck matted to your forehead. Your cheeks were rosy from the cold and he could see the rise and fall of your chest as you caught your breathe.

Though despite that the smile was ever clear on your face and Merlin could see the glimmer to your eyes.

Gaius cleared his throat when he saw how intently Merlin was looking at you. “My dear! We should get you a warm cloak and I’ll have Merlin make you something so you won’t get a cold,” He said, taking your arm and pulling a bench closer to the fire.

Merlin immediately went to the draft cabinet without having to be told and found exactly what would help you before taking Gaius’s place beside you.

“I shall be in the other room if you need me.” Gaius said as he handed Merlin a dry brown cloak to give you as he let yours up to dry.

Merlin turned to you and handed you the medicine. “Did you have any troubles on your adventure?”

He heard a soft laugh leave you as you downed the earthy-tasting liquid. “Not at all, it was nice to clear my head.”

Merlin smiled and moved to stand behind you as he placed the cloak over your shoulders. “Now let’s hope you don’t catch a cold.”

“Would you take care of me if I did?”

“Of course, m'lady.” Merlin mused as he bowed to you. “I live to serve.”

That brought out a proper laugh from your lips and it made it heart jump.

“I rather like your laugh.” He thought aloud and you both shared a tender smile before his eyes caught sight of your hands.

They were a little dirty and you had several cuts on the knuckles of your fingers. “What did you do?” He asked in a concerned tone and he gently sat down again, taking your hands in his.

“Oh just a few small scratches from some thorns, don’t worry too much.” You said before laughing at the expression he gave you.

“I’ll have to patch you up then, won’t I?” He asked before assembling some gauze and few soothing salves before quickly returning to your side and tending your hand.

You watch him carefully wrap up your fingers without trying to hurt you. “You’re good at this, any other hidden talents?”

Merlin laughed and shook his head as he tied the final piece of gauze. “If I ever figure them out you’ll be the first to know.”

He examined his work, and without realizing it he had lifted your hands and kissed the bandages, something his mother often did when he injured himself.

You didn’t mind but the instant Merlin realized what he’d done he apologized profusely before you calmed him down.

“I really didn’t mind.” You said to him with an assuring smile before you turned your attention to the fire.

Merlin’s heart fluttered in his chest and his head felt dizzy. Had he just really kissed you? Sure it was simply on your hands but that still was an act of affection he bestowed upon you.

In his adrenaline rush, Merlin turned to you. “(Y/n)?”

You hummed to let him know you were listening, and it wasn’t till your eyes met that he asked you something that had been on his mind for some time.

“Would it be alright if I kissed you?”

You were taken by the question at first, never really expecting him to say it you of all people. And before you could even open your mouth, he was stuttering over apologies.

“Wrong moment-I have horrendous timing, I’m really sorry, forget I mentioned it-”

You couldn’t help but smile before you leaned over a placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. “No, I don’t think I’d mind it at all.”

Merlin had the most shocked look you had ever seen on a man and you had to stifle a laugh. “I hope you have a good evening, and tell Gaius I shall return his cloak tomorrow.”

He didn’t say anything but his eyes followed yours as you approached the door.

You turned around and smiled at him. “Goodnight, Merlin.”

Merlin waited until he was absolutely certain you weren’t coming back his hand found the place where your lips made contact on his skin and a smile appeared on his face that was bright even the rain clouds couldn’t dim.
