My next inspiration comes from Erik Mannby who is one of the most stylish and nicest guys I know. He has an uncanny ability to dress well whether he’s dressed in a suit or in casualwear. Anyone who’s seen photos from Pitti Uomo would no doubt recognise Erik.
He always gets the fit right (which should be the starting point for any of us) but takes it further by his use of some unusual colours. For example, at Pitti one year, I reckon he had one of the best outfits there with a green flannel suit, orange cardigan (as above), purple tie and dark brown boots. To see what I’m talking about, google “Erik Mannby green suit” without the quotes and it should be the first image.
I picked this outfit as the inspiration because I think it shows the wonderful way in which Erik combines tailored and casual pieces. He wears an army jacket with an oxford collar button down shirt, thin merino wool cardigan, tailored wool trousers and olive sneakers. The amazing part is that it looks well put together - the bright orange and rich blue against the olive of the field jacket and sneakers all anchored with a light blue OCBD shirt. The combination works splendidly
I’ve tried to replicate this with a darker olive field jacket and different casual olive shoes but similar elements throughout.
Wool clothes are the nuts and bolts of winter style. We’re not talking about that itchy holiday sweater that you never actually wear, but thick, soft basics that heat you up and keep you comfortable. The key is finding a balance - look for items that are made predominantly from wool and mixed with materials like cotton and linen for a smoother texture. We searched our site to find you the best wool-blend coats, jackets, sweaters and pants from high street brands and designers alike. Scroll through our selection below and welcome wool into your winter rotation.
Search tip: You can search for specific materials and styles on Wantering by typing in keywords like cotton or cashmere. Shop more men’s wool clothing and accessories here.

We’ve covered the oversized coat trend and fawned over long, flowy dusters on our favorite bloggers, but we’d like to put our two cents in on a much different sweater style: the cropped cardigan. Before you shrug it off too conservative or young-looking, consider the variety of ways you can wear it to fit your individual style. Take a look at how some of our favorite celebrities wear theirs, like Sienna Miller and Ashley Olsen, get a feel for how it’s styled on the street and shop the best new styles below.
Seen on Celebrities
Wear your buttoned-up cardigan with wide-leg trousers and chunky heels for a more sophisticated look, a la Sienna Miller.
Wear a sweet-looking cardigan as a shirt for a more grown-up feel, like style icon Ashley Olsen, and pair with boyish loose-fit jeans.
Seen on the Street
Balance a chunky cropped cardigan with a mini skirt for a taller silhouette, like Swedish model Hedvig Palm.
If you’re feeling gutsy, style a small cardigan over a cropped shirt to show a little skin, and let your pencil skirt sit a little lower on your hips.
