Back in 1972, performance increases were mostly limited to a subtle boost in engine performance. Not with the Mercedes-Benz 230 of the W 110 series. Straight from the factory, the sedan had been equipped with a 120 hp six-cylinder in-line engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The racing-experienced AMG crew notched the engine output up to 185 hp with a maximum of now 200 km/h, a bonus of 28 km/h.
