memory of a lost paradise

When nature no longer soaks up the rain
Leaves and petals will drift in the current,
We will watch knowing we cannot regain
The sunken hope of all that we weren’t.

When water stops flowing and turns to ice
In our rivers, stems, trunks, and arteries,
Memories freeze in this lost paradise,
Leaving naught but petrified effigies.

Amid this barren wasteland of remorse
A comet shall plummet, shattering all;
Dust will veil earth from its luminous source,
Then the sun will appear fragile and small.

Your love will slowly fade in the distance,
Earth will lose its matrix for existence.
