Nagaland Govt. orders magisterial inquiry into Phek firing incident
Dimapur, July 20 (ANI): The Nagaland government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the recent shooting incident at Meluri in Phek district of the state which led to the death of two civilians and injured one.
The inquiry, which will be conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Kuko Mero, will look into causes and source of firing.
On July 15, 2015, 46 Assam Rifles and 12 Para Commandos, while returning from Avungkhu area under Meluri Sub-Division in Phek district reportedly encountered NSCN (K) cadres in which two of the latter were killed.
Later, while taking the two dead bodies for legal formalities to Meluri Police Station, violence and firing erupted, causing the death of two students and injuring a woman.
Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing law and order situation and in the interest of public safety, Phek District Collector, Muruho Chotso, has in an order prohibited storage/selling/wearing of combat dress/camouflage dress with immediate effect.
Security personnel have also been directed not to wear combat/camouflage dress during official duty hours.
Violation of this order will invite penalty as per appropriate section of law, an official release stated. (ANI)
