Autistic Headcanon: Greg from Over the Garden Wall

Greg, Wirt’s young step brother, shows these traits of autism:

  • Takes statements or instructions very (or completely) literally
  • Vocal stims
  • Easily distracted when not hyper-focused
  • Is social but feels out of place at school
  • Doesn’t obey general social norms, often misinterpreting criticisms entirely. Ex.,  "Greg, take that frog out of your pants.“ “He can do what he wants.”

tell me
a different story
this time
how Icarus
upon falling
learned to swim
and let the currents
sweep him away
and even now
sits
on a beach somewhere
an old man
watching the waves dance
in the sun
who shivers on the ground
and died
gaze on the sea birds
a smile on his lips
because after one taste
of sky
and years spent
in waiting
he is finally
going home.

tell me
a different story,
this time
how Perseus
when fighting
fell
at the hands of
Medusa
leaving
Andromeda
chained to the rocks
by her family
with no one coming for her
tell me how
she pulled at her shackles
until her wrists
were bruised
and bleeding
until they shattered
like the life
she left behind
until she had fought her way
free
all by herself
tell me
how when no hero
came to save her
she saved herself
and how even now
she finds a way
to chase down sea monsters
and teach other girls
that they do not need
others
to be their heroes—
they can find way
and courage enough
to save themselves.

tell me
a different story
this time
how Cassandra
foresaw
the laughter
and accusations
tumbling from others mouths
and chose
to leave them
to their own devices and dooms
tell me how
she walked away
and saw new futures
tumbling forth
with every step she took
far away
from her doomed life
and how even now
she smiles
and wraps her prophecies close about her
and dares not look too closely
at what others may suffer
but watches her own future
and only announces
what she does not wish to change
and watches those events come to pass
with a sharp-toothed
smile.

Tell me
a different story
this time
how Ariadne
bargained not for
love
but for
her freedom
Tell me
how she led Theseus
through a prison
of a maze
and then
led herself out
of the prison
of her life
slipping away
with the tides
to let her feet wander
on strange shores
And how even now
she needs no string
to know
exactly
where she is going;
the magic
was hers
all along.

Tell me
a different story
this time
because that isn’t
can’t
be all
there is
tell me
something
new
because the old tales
carry their weight
in cramped lines
and wrinkled ideas
and have been worn thin
by their tremendous age
tell me
a different story
tell me
something new
tell me
a tale
with a twist
because even now
especially
now
humanity deserves
to believe
that the story
isn’t over yet–
that there is always
more
waiting to be told
and that there are always those
in it
who will
deserve
better
than they received.
so
here we are
tell me
a different story.

Stories, retold.

Individual stanzas can be found here

Turn off the light when you leave
Switch off that evil sound
I’m trying hard not to breathe
Till I’m on solid ground
Sometimes that’s just how it goes
Take it from someone who knows
Eyes wide, tongue tied
She replied, “I’m lost inside”

I’m not your miracle man
I’m not your spirit guide
Before this whole thing began
I had some sense of pride
Just one more night with your lips
Your company is hard to eclipse
Weak knees, yes indeed
Garunteed, make my heart bleed

Give me a reason to breathe
Don’t let my sun go down
I’ll make you sad and recieve
I’ll be your sacred ground
Be my Medusa in Chains, petrified
Only your beauty remains
Tell me, baby, one more time
Won’t you be a friend of mine?

Put out your e-cigarette
Take off your sequin shawl
Just try your best to forget
That I once made you crawl
Just one more sway of your hips
I love the way your confidence slips
You should be outlawed, dear God
Every single breath, I applaud

Give me a reason to breathe
Don’t let my sun go down
I’ll make you sad and recieve
I’ll be your sacred ground
Be my Medusa in Chains, petrified
Only your beauty remains
Tell me, baby, one more time
Won’t you be a friend of mine?

Happy moment of the week: my atheist boyfriend (who knows I'm wiccan) and I went to ren faire and were deciding on designs for custom necklaces, and he suggested that I get a pentacle design. The last guy I dated (also atheist) forbade me from having any wiccan paraphernalia. Moral of the story: if your partner doesn't respect your beliefs, dump their ass. There is someone out there who will respect them.

Hey that’s awesome! Glad you have a supportive BF :)

my-medusa-in-chains submitted: The Tarot del Fuego! I’m still getting to know this deck, but I love the style (if you can’t tell from my previous submissions, I read heavily on image) and there’s so much passion and sensuality in this deck, I feel like it’s going to be a great one for love or life event readings.

This is one of those decks I like but I am not too sure. And I seem to like the Minor Arcana better. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to check more of it :)

Treated myself to some great products from Lush today! My new shower gel Don’t Rain on My Parade, Sikkim Girls solid perfume, a sample of Love and Light hand lotion, and a charity lotion that is dedicated to raising public awareness for the conversation of ocean life. All awesome things! Thanks @my-medusa-in-chains for your help and recommendations–can’t wait to use them all up! :)
