Innisfree Water Glow Cushion Review (no. 21)

Innisfree released 2 new cushion products for the summer. The first is the Long Wear Cushion that gives you a matte finish, and the Water Glow Cushion that has the dewy finish. I do have both of these, so the review for the Long Wear Cushion is coming soon!

Each cushion comes with 3 different shades.

Containing 100% green tea extract instead of water to provide rich moisturising glow to the skin. The Water Glow complex provides a moisture coating effect for healthy glowing skin. It is cool and soothes tired skin from outdoor environment. It offers strong sun protection, protecting skin from the sun light by having SPF50+PA+++.
To use, take the puff and press into the cushion. Apply a thin layer onto the skin with a gentle tapping motion. Reapply by tapping onto the skin whenever needed.

The cushion pact comes in your usual recycled paper box with soy ink, I really like how dedicated Innisfree is with being environmentally friendly! The compact fits nicely in my palm, but I find it to be a tad bulky. It comes with a full sized mirror and a high quality puff that sits on plastic that protects and separates the cushion from everything else. There is also a plastic seal that is meant to be removed completely once you start using the product. The cushion itself contains 15g of product. Refills are also available.

After hearing so many good things about the Innisfree Cushions, I had set my expectations quite high. Good thing this product didn’t disappoint! The water glow cushion surprisingly has medium coverage. It managed to hide any redness I had on my cheeks and also reduce the appearance of blemishes. It has a natural dewy finish that makes your skin appear healthy and supple, without going too overboard with the shine. I found that it lasted quite a few hours before I noticed a bit of shine around my nose and cheeks. However, the lasting power was easily extended with the application of a powder on the oilier parts of the face. There are 3 shades to choose from, catering to the wider marker with a range of tones. I decided to go for 21 which suited me perfectly. The cushion has SPF 50 which is fantastic for the summer. There is a light herbal scent that is mainly only noticeable during application, and slowly fades away throughout the day. The packaging for the cushion is of high quality. Size wise, it is the around the same as your usual cushions, but I don’t think it is interchangeable with other brands.  The only problem that I can see is that the cushion isn’t easily removed from the compact, so it may be a bit harder to change with a refill. Overall, fantastic product! I’m really looking forward to trying out the Long Wear Cushion too!

Note: I’m thinking of doing a comparison post too! Let me know if you’d like to see one!

-medium coverage
-natural dewy finish
-long lasting (especially when set with a powder)
-3 shades available
-SPF 50 PA++

-slightly bulky packaging
-not easy to remove the cushion for refill

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

I'm relatively new to makeup and I'm planning on going shopping to the drugstore and sephora but I don't know what to buy. Can you please give me advice and recommendations?

things to get from sephora/highend:
foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, brow product, eyeshadow primer

• i can’t really recommend a foundation that’s perfect for you because it depends on everyone’s skin type and preferred coverage, my my all time favorite is the Makeup Forever HD foundation (natural finish, medium coverage). i have a foundation 101 post that may be useful, and if you go to tagged/oily and what not i have previously answered questions about that skin type!
• concealer also depends on your preference, but i typically look for something that is easy to blend, lightweight and has good coverage. my favorites are the Nars radiant creamy concealer and the Urban Decay naked concealer. if you want something for undereye circles i love my Tarte under eye cc. for blemishes i like using the Makeup Forever full cover concealer (waterproof, too!).
• powder is important because it can make or break the face. it can set your makeup and give a flawless finish OR make your skin look super cakey. a really good powder amazing for all skin types/tones is the Makeup Forever HD powder. if you want a very glowy look, i recommend the Hourglass ambient lighting powders
• bronzer is another product you should get highend because a lot of drugstore bronzers can be too muddy, sheer, orange. i recommend getting the Bobbi Brown bronzing powders, they come in a lot of shades. you could also get a non matte bronzer to warm up the skin- i love the Kat Von D shady business bronzers for that.
• brows…. anastasia beverly hills is your best friend. I would start off with trying out the brow powders or pencils.
• eyeshadow primer in my opinion is a super necessary step before eyeshadow. i recommend Urban Decay primer potion, and if you have really oily eyelids, get the Nars smudge proof eyeshadow base!

things to get at the drugstore:
brushes, blush, highlighter, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick

• I recommend the real techniques, eco tools, sonia kashuk and elf brushes- they’re very good quality! message me for any specific brushes but these brands i think have the best in the drugstore!
• for blush, I really recommend the ELF studio blushes and the NYX powder blushes. very pigmented and there’s a lot of shade selection!
• for a powder highlight, I recommend ELF golden bronzer and Hard Candy tiki. Both of these are gorgeous. for a liquid highlight, I recommend the NYX born to glow liquid illuminator and the Revlon photoready skinlights
• especially if you’re just getting into makeup, I recommend getting an eyeshadow palette! you can get some at sephora but the drugstore has a lot of good quality eyeshadow palettes. I just recently answered a question about the eyeshadow palettes i recommend from the drugstore so you can click here to see that. also, the Loreal infallible eyeshadows are SO amazing (so pigmented and buttery). Also the Maybelline cream eyeshadows are great!
NYX hands down has the best lip liners in the drugstore so check them out :)
• for lipsticks, I recommend Wet N Wild megalast lipsticks, NYX soft matte lip creams, and the Maybelline the buffs lipsticks (you’ll find a nude shade for any skin tone)

kneexv  asked:

Hi! What high end foundation would you recommend that's not heavy on my skin but has medium coverage? I've always used bb's but I want a little more coverage than usual.

Hello! Natural looking, medium coverage foundations are my foundations of choice on a day to day basis so I may or may not have tried all of them…

Try foundations like

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (slight sheen/dew)
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Definition Liquid Makeup (satin finish)
  • NARS Sheer Matte (or Glow depending on what finish you want)
  • Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation (satin finish)
  • Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Fluid (soft matte finish)

All these foundations are more lightweight, liquidy so they’ll feel super weightless on the skin yet still have enough coverage and pigment to cover scars and such (which I have). They are almost all satin finishes which is the finish of natural skin, not dewy nor too matte so they look super natural like a BB cream.

I’d recommend going to Sephora or Nordstrom and getting a few samples of a few before you buy! :)

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation review

Hey guys! I got a bunch of messages overnight to do a review on the new nars foundations that is SO hyped. So I thought I should sit down and actually do a full review for once!

First i’ll start off by putting the NARS description of the foundation, then my thoughts on it.

What it is:
An oil-free foundation that delivers full, natural-looking coverage with one drop, for lightweight, 16-hour wear.

What it does:
Achieve full-coverage, lightweight foundation that leaves a natural finish. Highly pigmented and perfectly balanced, this breakthrough, full-coverage formula builds and blends effortlessly. Its Even Tone Technology instantly neutralizes redness and dullness, while it works to reduce discoloration for more even, uniform skin. Perfect for all skin types, it features Long-wear Technology, an exclusive blend from NARS with flexible polymers and treated pigments that move with the skin while providing 16 hours of staying power.

Suggested Usage:
Shake, pump, and blend:
-Shake well and apply one pump of product into palm.
-Start by warming the foundation in the hands. Then, working with the fingers, apply a small amount in the center of the face and begin pressing onto the skin working outward in sections.

The foundation is available in 20 different shades with various undertones, I got the color Mont Blanc, which is the lightest shade in the line. The color was picked out for me by the store associate, she told me that it was light with yellow undertones, and me not being familiar with nars foundation shades, trusted her opinion until I later came home and realized it had pink undertones, I decided to just try it out and if it didn’t work out i’ll just swap it for the correct shade.

I applied the foundation as described, by putting one pump into my palms to warm it up (hate putting foundation in my palms) then put it in the middle of my face and spread it out, I noticed that the foundation was very thin and watery but provided a nice medium natural coverage, It came off a bit more matte on my skin then I would prefer but that might be because I have dry skin and I didn’t apply any primer before hand because I wanted to do a real raw first impression of the foundation on its own. With one pump, the foundation had a medium coverage, I think with half a pump more you can apply it wherever you want for extra “full” coverage.

After a few minutes, I noticed the foundation started to match my skin and neck more. It become less “pinky pale” to a more natural skin color. The foundation really has that “your skin but better” finish to it, which I absolutely love for days I don’t feel like being a radiant ball of dewiness. I paired the foundation with my NARS radiant creamy concealer in the shade vanilla under my eye area. I did not set it with any powders or setting spray, I want to see if it holds up to its promises of lasting 16 hours.

One pump is really all I needed to cover my entire face, and the formula is extremely unique to me, I have never tried any other foundation like it. The foundation is said to be made for all skin types (oily, dry, combo, normal) and while I have dry skin, I can see how it can be great for all those with the correct primer underneath to enhance the results of it.

Overall I would recommend everyone to go out and try this foundation, it is definitely going to go into my top favorites! It is an interesting formula and finish that I think the majority of people will like, I do however recommend going into the store to swatch colors to make sure you get the right shade. Because I would have never picked up Mont Blanc on my own, but surprisingly the color set to match my face.

Let me know if you guys like these kinds of in depth reviews on products and i’ll try to make this a more frequent thing!<3

- TOP 14 OF 2014 -

this was actually pretty easy to make because this year was full of amaaazing things that i’m obsessed with (some things i don’t use currently but they’re new or rediscovered products that i fell in love with this year). also i just used google for the pictures because i was too lazy to take 14 pictures of makeup unlike last year’s post (sorry:/)

1. Makeup Forever HD foundation
this is my favorite foundation ever now. everyone makes this foundation seem like a super full coverage high quality night time foundation but that’s not how i see it. it gives the perfect natural finish medium coverage that makes my skin look amazing but SO natural. (it doesn’t even look like i’m wearing foundation). and ofcourse it photographs so well :)

2. MAC pro longwear concealer
yeah i still love my nars radiant creamy but i rediscovered this concealer this year. it’s so lightweight but gives nice coverage and blends so seamlessly. i love using this when i don’t wear foundation and i just set it with a powder.

3. MAC pro conceal and correct palette
so useful: i use this to clean up/define my brows after filling them in and for blemishes as well. it just comes in so handy and i can use it all year round because of the different shades.

4. Hourglass ambient lighting powder (dim light)
i use this when i want my skin to look flawless. after a light application of translucent loose powder, i use a tapered brush and apply this under my eyes, on my cheekbones, center of forehead, nose, chin. this gives me a super “glow from within” look hahah

5. MAC refined golden bronzer
this bronzer threw me off in the beginning because it was almost too warm and had golden flecks in it. but i don’t contour on an everyday basis so i’m always looking for bronzers that are matte and not completely matte. this bronzer is so buttery despite the gold flecks and it looks so nice on the skin. perfect for medium/tan skin tones with warm/golden undertones. the gold becomes unnoticeable once applied and gives a super pretty glow.

6. MAC trace gold blush (swatched here)
if you’re like me and don’t like blush that much (i naturally have really pink cheeks), then you would love this. it has an amaaaaazzzziiing satin-y finish and it looks so glowy and bronzy on the cheeks. it doesn’t have any red or pink pigment in it; it’s just super warm and bronze so it’s great even just to top off your usual blush for extra bronze glow.

7. Becca opal pressed highlighter (swatched here)
i’ve worn this every single day ever since i got it and this might be the longest streak for any product i’ve ever owned lol. i honestly can’t even explain how pretty this highlighter is. the texture is SO buttery and it blends in well and looks so natural. ahhhh

8. Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade (used here)
my holy grail makeup item. i will repurchase this till i die and i can’t live without it. pigmented and lasts ALL day.

9. Benefit gimme brow
(shoutout to mika hehe love you thank you!!) this is probably the newest addition to my makeup but i quickly fell in love with it. (quickly as in literally like after 1 or 2 applications lol). i’ve always found clear brow gels to be too wet and didn’t reaaallly hold my brows together especially because mine are pretty thick but i don’t have alot. this one really puts everything together and makes my eyebrows look amazing!

10. Stila Eyes are the Window MIND palette (shown here)
if i were ever to create an eyeshadow palette it would most likely be all matte and it would most likely look like this one. they blend, and they’re pigmented. i especially love the bright burnt orange shade and the rosy mauve shade!

11. Urban Decay electric palette
my favorite bright eyeshadow palette ever. the shades are so unique and pigmented. they’re not exactly wearable for every day but regardless, i love every single color in it. i’ve actually worn the bright purple/pink out and the turquoise/blue out and it looked pretty cool. (it’s much more wearable when you blend with a neutral matte brown shade!)

12. MAC cork eyeshadow
love this for a super natural eyeshadow look all over the lid and i also use this to contour my nose. it’s kind of a boring shade but i’ve used this all year so i thought i should put it in here :)

13. Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipsticks
i have the shade lolita, berlin, and vampira; this lip product is AMAZING. it literally lasts all day even if i take a nap or eat 3 meals. it’s also super comfortable on the lips and isn’t as drying as i thought it would be. they’re completely matte and easy to apply too!

14. Lipliners in general
not trying to get on that kylie bandwagon but i’ve been loving lip liner this whole year. i hate lip products in general, lipstick is too high maintenance and lipgloss gets everywhere. but lipliner just stays put (also why i love the kat von d liquid lipsticks). i don’t overline that much but i love the matte finish and the longwear it gives. my favorites are MAC whirl, Makeup Forever 2C, and MAC creme o spice. (i’m also getting more this holiday;))
