Meanwhile in Pete's World... Another Nightmare

“Ow! Rose! Rose– ooof. Rose, wake up.”

“Hmmm… wha? Doctor, why are you on the floor?”

“You kicked me off the bed!”

“Oh. Sorry.”

“You don’t sound sorry.”

“Well, I’m a little upset with you. You were awful in my nightmare.”

“I’m sorry, Rose. But it’s just a dream.”

“I know. But when it feels so real and you just wake up…”

“I know what you mean. It’s alright. Do you want to talk about it?”

“Ugh, it was horrible. You looked… and you were all… scowl-y. And you violated the Queen.”

“I what?!”

“You were all disgustingly romantic with Queen Elizabeth. For no reason. And she was so hung up on you, she forgot all about her duties as monarch and England failed as a nation. It changed time irreparably  and all of womankind was furious with you for undermining one of the great female figures in history. Is this the kind of thing you got up to when I was gone?”

“I… Rose, I can assure you, none of that ever happened. Great Britain is just as great as it ever was. Elizabeth the First was a competent monarch until the end of her reign and is still responsible for all the amazing things she did. And any of her shortcomings – she was human, after all. But overall, you’re right, she was an astonishing woman and none of that has anything to do with me, or anything I did.”

“But what if it’s happening right now?”

“It’s not. Your nightmare gives me a lot more credit than I deserve. I’m just one man.”

“Time Lord.”

“Even so. I’m your Time Lord, anyway.”

“Still mad at me?”

“No. But I’d like to cement this claim that you’re mine…”
