The fire story reminds me of something that happened at my own school. We have had like three or two smalls fires ever since I started 5th grade. It is important to note that our school is very old. My Grandpa and Grandma even remember when it was an elementary school. It was also a highschool at one point.
Basically, it’s really old. The school also has made very slow progress to even try to enhance some of the building. Honestly only some of the school is up to date.
First fire happened in the mpr (multi-purpose room. It’s basically just the cafeteria). I was in 5th grade at the time. So, I was on the top floor of the building. (Along with the eighth graders but 5th graders were not allowed to venture into their hallway alone). When the fire alarm starts going off. Everyone was super chill because everyone thought it was a drill. The teachers weren’t expecting a drill but it didn’t seem to out of place at the time. The school tends to forget to tell teachers this stuff. Half of the school was in the front yard and the other half was in the back of the school. If you were in the back of the school (which I wasn’t) you got to see the firetrucks. They knew it wasn’t a drill when firefighters actually started to appear on the scene. However, the people in the front yard were just moved to the park across the street. It this moment people found out it wasn’t a drill. Some people hoped that the whole school burned down. Others hoped that there stuff was alright. I was crying because the teacher wouldn’t let me go see my brother. Who was also in the front lawn. Fun fact: He wasn’t concerned at all. He was sitting in the grass making flower crowns with his friends. He was an eighth grader at the time. Turns out it was just an electric fire. One of the lights caught on fire and the lunchladies had to report it. Nothing more than the ceiling was burned. (Note: the floors of this room were made of rubber) I think some of the floor was burned as well. The sixth graders got to grab there stuff and stay outside all day because the sixth grade hallways is literally connected to the mpr.
Next the next fires happened in the gym. Two years later so I was in seventh grade. They might have just been the same fire. But it never really was cleared up what exactly happened. The fire happened after school. Basically a light in the gym fell because of a storm? Or something like that. Like I said not many details were released. However, it did leave a nasty burn on the wood floor in the gym. Luckily it was put out quickly. However the storm(?) (Another happened a few days later) was very expensive. It cut out some sort of expensive equipment in the tech ed room. It had to be replaced. The wifi was out for like 3 or 4 days. It also was the end of the school year so, any online unfinished projects in tech ed. had to be scrambled to be done in like two days. Which those projects took forever.
Anyways it was bad. But it made the school year more interesting since nothing really happens in our small town.
