me to hayley always

So tomorrow my new music video will premiere on Buzzfeed, but before it does I wanted to write a little note about it to you guys personally.

I’ve never truly believed that sexuality defines who you are. I do believe, though, that sexuality helps shape and build who you become. How you act, what you pursue, who you surround yourself with. This music video for “Sleepover” is not a concept or an idea for me. It is my life. It defines a part of who I am today. I grew up a dreamer and found comfort through a safe haven in my head. It’s where I was able to find self-love and feel validated. This music video validates those feelings for me, even if in those moments the girl I fell for was unavailable. I made this video to help validate those fantasies. To create a space for the lovers, dreamers and seekers. Falling in love can be a bittersweet feeling, especially if you know it’ll never be reciprocated. I think we can all relate to that. Thanks for always supporting me. Love you.

Happy Birthday, Hayley Elizabeth Atwell! (April 5th, 1982)

“I would hope that young girls can see that they don’t have to sacrifice their femininity to be taken seriously in the workplace. But also they don’t have to rely on their physicality or their appearance; that it’s just as important, if not a lot more so, to be able to use their intelligence, their wit, their humor and their warmth to be able to get where they want to and to achieve their goals in life.”

I’m tired of all the heteronormativity I see all the time, if you’re a wlw or lgbt+ and want to talk then like this or please message me and let’s be friends?

After Laughter

A lot of people have been asking me about my thoughts on After Laughter and now that it’s been out for almost two weeks I think I have enough grasp on the album to write this.

First off, I loved Hard Times when it came out. It was a different sound, but still decently rock oriented, although it was missing a good guitar solo and an intense vocal performance that I come to expect from Paramore singles. When Told You So was released I didn’t like it at first because it was too indie for me and I didn’t think Hayley’s vocals shined at all on the track (it’s since grown on me and I saw their late night live performance, which was much better than the studio version).

Anyways, getting to the album, in my very first listen I had to confess myself disappointed. Lyrically, I absolutely loved the album; Paramore lyrics have always been super relevant to me and Hayley’s writing did not let me down on album #5 either. That said, I still believe that her vocal performance is not as strong as on the other albums, the whole time I was listening I was waiting for that one moment where I just had to jump up and go all in with her–but it never came.

Instrumentally I was also a little disappointed. I’m always up for changes in style and trying new things (I LOVED the new sound of self-titled), but the jump in style here almost made the band unrecognizable at a first listen; it was so poppy (and the only guitar solo on the whole album is on Told You So!). I was really down at first because I couldn’t fully connect to the album immediately, and no one song stood out to me as being the best.

After listening a few times and really thinking about it, After Laughter has definitely grown on me. I think the changes in their style from what I usually expect from a Paramore album were so abrupt that I wasn’t prepared to process them all immediately. Overall, it’s my least favorite Paramore release so far, but I still enjoy it and can’t wait to see them play the songs live. Also, on a side note, commercially the album under performed (it debuted at #6 in the US where their last two albums were #1 and #2), so I’m curious to wonder what exactly about this record is alienating fans (especially since they just had their biggest career hit before writing this album!). Anyways, I digress and I’m rambling. I would give it a 6.5/10.

Shut up, English. You talk too much.

So I’ve listened to After Laughter I don’t even have words for this album! I think it’s my favourite album of all of them! The lyrics are so fucking deep and you can hear the pain behind it but the music is so happy and I wanna die! Paramore fucking me up yet again!! Also Hayley Williams will always and forever hold a special place in my heart and I love that angel so much and I hate to think of her crying and been hurt and upset and I wanna protect her at all costs… but anyway After Laughter is incredible I love it so much
