I’ve just realized that, in the past few days, I’ve spent a bit of time with several prominent coaches within Small College Basketball.
* Had lunch with Harry Statham, Head Coach at McKendree University, and the winningest college basketball coach at the four-year level history.
* Had dinner at Scott Spinner’s house. Coach Spinner is the Head Coach at Lindenwood-Belleville, and he led his team to the NAIA Division I National Championship for the first time in school history (they just recently joined the NAIA) and was just named the college Coach-of-the-Year in Illinois by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
* I just hung up from a call with Greg Tonagel. Coach Tonagel is the Head Coach at Indiana Wesleyan, and they just won the NAIA Division II National Championship.
* I’ve been back-and-forth with Josh Schertz & TJ Rosene. Coach Schertz is the Head Coach at Lincoln Memorial and led his team to another conference title, another appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and he was recently presented with the Red Auerbach Award from the Jewish Coaches Association. Coach Rosene is the Head Coach at Emmanuel College and led his team to the title game of the NAIA Division I National Championship.
I am reminded of how fortunate that I am, and I’m reminded of how many wonderful people that we have in our game of basketball.
