McConnelsville man helps Iraqi refugees resettle in U.S.

To most of us, Iraq is a newspaper headline, a far-away, foreign country which we don’t think about much.

That’s not the case for Rick Welch of McConnelsville. Welch is a retired Army Reserve Colonel who spent more than six years stationed in Iraq.

Working with the government of Iraq, the U.S. Embassy and U.S. Forces, he led several national reconciliation initiatives over a four year period.

I got to go up in a Medflight 6 helicopter in McConnelsville, Ohio, today and spend some time with the base crew. I was left at a random hospital for over an hour and a half (and picked back up, of course). I had some great talks with the crew, and random people I met. Quite an adventure that I wasn’t exactly expecting to have. Those are the best. I love being a photographer. Today made me fall even more in love with my intended career path, my hobby, my love. 

This is a great way to relieve stress from the hell week that is about to ensue at school this week.
