[EPISODE] 47. Moon Returns! The Mysterious Aliens Appear.

Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R

Kana: ムーン復活! 謎のエイリアン出現
Romaji: Muun Fukkatsu! Nazo no Eirian Shutsugen

Original Air Date: March 6, 1993

Director: Kazuhisa Takenouchi
Writer: Shigeru Yanagawa
Animation Director: Taichi Nakamura

Plot: When a new enemy attacks, Luna reawakens Sailor Moon.

  • The first thirteen episodes of Sailor Moon R are considered filler as the new stories and new characters were unique to the anime. This arc was created so that the manga could catch up.
  • Kae Araki played Usagi/Sailor Moon until Kotono Mitsuishi recovered from her illness. Kotono returned in episode 51, and Kae later voiced Chibiusa.
  • Minako and Rei were spotted at the crater site, but they did not speak. This was why they were not listed in the ending credits.

  • Ail/Seijuurou Ginga, An/Natsumi Ginga, and the Makaiju were all introduced.
  • A cardian was first used as a monster-of-the-day.
  • A cardian first said “Cleansing.”
  • This was Taichi Nakamura’s first episode as an animation director.
  • There were new animation sequences for both the opening credits and the ending credits.
  • A new song, “Otome no Policy” (A Maiden’s Policy), accompanied the new ending animation.

  • This was Mayumi Osaka’s final appearance in the anime.
  • This was last instance where Moon Tiara Action fully defeated a monster in the television series.

  • DiC’s English dub (titled “The Return of Sailor Moon”):

It was believed that there were two different dubs of this episode: one used as a standalone pilot that aired on FOX, and one used in the first syndication run of DiC’s initial batch of dubbed episodes. The only difference, according to here, is that the FOX airing had a longer opening narrative.

In the flashback of Princess Serenity/Princess Serena’s battle with Beryl, Serena said “Moon Prism Power.” This was inconsistent with her saying “Cosmic Moon Power” in the actual dubbed episode that the scene comes from.

Ail/Alan and An/Anne bore no ties to the Dark Kingdom/Negaverse whatsoever. Yet in DiC’s continuity, Alan said, “Beryl was right about Earth.”

[EPISODE] 43. Usagi Abandoned? The Sailor Senshi Have a Big Fight.

Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

Kana: うさぎが孤立? S戦士達の大ゲンカ
Romaji: Usagi ga Koritsu? Seeraa Senshi tachi no Oo Genka

Original Air Date: February 6, 1993

Director: Kazuhisa Takenouchi
Writer: Shigeru Yanagawa
Animation Director: Katsumi Tamegai

Plot: Kunzite sends his minion to investigate the sudden conflict between Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Senshi.

  • Sailor Mercury struck Sailor Moon with her mathematics II B (数学II B) book. This course is typically taught in high schools.
  • The newspaper said that Sailor Moon was in Harumi. This is an area in Chuo, a special ward in Tokyo.
  • The katakana typeface for “Sailor Moon” in the newspaper article headlines looked like that of the series’ logo.
  • The image of Sailor Moon on Usagi’s stationery resembled her manga counterpart. This drawing of Sailor Moon sported barrettes and a manga-like Henshin Brooch. However, Sailor Moon would not wear these trademark hair accessories in the anime until S.
  • As she hid in the bushes, Sailor Jupiter was seen multiple times with two separate stripes on her collar. Her collar normally has two connected white stripes.

  • This was Katsumi Tamegai’s first episode as an animation director.

  • DiC’s English dub (titled “Fractious Friends”):

Usagi/Serena forgot the wand and Silver Crystal in Rei/Raye’s room. In the original Japanese version, Usagi entrusted Rei with the items because she was afraid that she’d easily hand them over to the enemy.
