Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel fires police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

Chicago’s police superintendent Garry McCarthy was fired from his job by mayor Rahm Emanuel, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Tuesday. The superintendent had been under fire following the release of video showing officer Jason Van Dyke shooting unarmed 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. McCarthy’s false claim about the incident was refuted by the video.

Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Chicago and gathered outside city hall Wednesday calling for Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign. It was the latest demonstration in a series that has accelerated over the past two weeks — much of which has been spurred by the efforts of young black community organizers.

Did you ever think you would need counseling after eating all the anti-Blackness we have been force fed?

Have you ever felt like this is personal damage? Because I have. Last Wednesday I broke down in tears after reading about Mayor Rahm Emmanuel closing down the last trauma centers on the South Side of Chicago. I just can’t figure out why we don’t matter. Why we cry and bleed in front of these folks and they don’t see us as human. I don’t understand. I don’t even need you to see me as human just please stop fucking killing us. It’s safer to organize for animals here, than it is to organize for Black people.

I have always thought this was a dangerous world to be Black in but for the first time I really feel that as a Black woman, I cannot have kids. I cannot bring them here.

I feel legit traumatized and maybe it’s because I can see how closely America’s relationship with Black people mirrors a DV relationship… But I honestly feel overwhelmed reading about another every 28 hrs death.

And it is crushing me.

I love y'all. Be safe. Fight back.

Antonio Martin. This one is for you.
My God. Richard Nixon on Twitter is exactly what we need today.
The prickly politics of the 37th president have been reanimated for the social-media age.

I was actually working on this post and the goddamn Washington Post beat me to it. But they don’t go far enough. @dick_nixon is - by far - the best political commentator out there working today and the best thing on Twitter since Dan Sinker’s Mayor Emmanuel.

We play the long game. Certain people forget that. But by God they remember in the end.

And he turns out to be some playwright from the Bronx. My God.
Rahm Emmanuel Puts a Price on the Head of Twitter Impostor

Chicago mayoral candidate and former Obama Chief of  Staff, Rahm Emmanuel, has put out  a bounty on the head of his Twitter impostor, @MayorEmannuel. Known for his flippant, expletive-laden tweets, the fake Emmanuel account now has more than 26,000 followers.

Candidate Emmanuel–the real one– has offered a $2,500-$5,000 bounty for the identity of the person behind the Twitter account,“ according to The Atlantic Wire. “After the election, I am offering a donation to the charity of that gentleman or woman’s choice if they would come forward and identify themselves,” he stated on the Chicago radio show Roe and Roeper. @MayorEmanuel’s response?

“I have a distinct fucking feeling this is going to be a long motherfucking day”

We’re predicting a Barbara Streisand Effect, now that Emmanuel has acknowledged the fake account. If the digital doppelganger sees a spike in Twitter followers, Emmanuel has himself to blame.

Here we go. Feel good news involving inner city kids from Chicago. For a change, particularly with all the bad news coming out of Chicago.

The Jackie Robinson West Little League team from Chicago is playing in the finals of the World Series, right now, against a team from Las Vegas. The kids from Chicago already lost one game to the kids from Las Vegas earlier in the tournament, so Chicago has to win this game, and then the final to win the series.

Mayor Emmanuel announced a coming home parade for the kids next week. Part of downtown is blocked off right now for a big screen block party for people to watch the game together.

Good side story. One of the kids has a big brother named Ro Coleman. Ro is a freshman at Vanderbilt, and is on the Vandy baseball team. Vandy just won the College World Series. How would you like to be the dad of those two? (P.S., I went to Vanderbilt.)
