I think I might have celiac and my doctor kind of chuckled when I said I think I have a problem with gluten and she told me to just stop eating it, but I feel like death all the time and is a diagnosis worth it? Sorry if this is weird..
That doesn’t sound weird at all! I would suggest getting at least the blood test to see if you have any signs of celiac disease there. Ask your doctor for the full panel, and be firm, if you can. Maybe take someone with you who is also serious about getting you well.
If the blood test results show positive - or even weakly positive - you’ve probably got celiac disease. After that, the diagnosis calls for an endoscopy to confirm, but I chose not to do that because I would have had to keep eating gluten for it to be accurate and I was pretty done feeling like crap. Plus procedures are risky for me for other reasons. I went fully gluten free after my blood test and it made a world of difference.
If your doctor is truly unwilling to cooperate, you could try a gluten free diet on your own, but you might want to also start taking some supplements. Celiac messes with the absorption of stuff. You could be low in fiber, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, folate, niacin, riboflavin, vitamin B12, and vitamin D, according to google. Maybe just a multivitamin to start off with.
After a month, you might be starting to feel better, but it took me about 2 months before I really could tell. It’s a process that takes patience and true dedication, but it could make you feel like a whole new person if you do have celiac.
