Softly, My Love

Or; a relationship told through its softest moments; from firsts to lasts and everything in between.

For Enjoltaire week 2017, day #3: soft.

Their first date is what can only be described as soft.

They meet for dinner inside of a small Thai cafe, and Grantaire’s heart does somersaults all the way through his meal. Enjolras keeps smiling at him, warmly, tentatively, and Grantaire feels himself blushing every time.

They hold hands on the walk home; what started off as Enjolras’ fingertips lightly grazing Grantaire’s wrist gradually evolved until their hands were linked, fingers intertwined. Enjolras swings their hands lightly as they walk in tandem and Grantaire thinks his jaw is going to break from all the smiling he’s been doing.

There’s no kissing before Enjolras walks up  the steps to his apartment and waves a small goodbye to Grantaire; instead they hug loosely for a few moments, promising to have dinner again sometime. Enjolras breaks contact with a smile and Grantaire lets himself wonder how he ever got so lucky as to have that smile bestowed upon him.

It’s snowing, the first time they kiss.

Grantaire remembers it vividly, because Enjolras was wearing that scarf that he got last Christmas- the red, white, and blue one that Courfeyrac bought him as a joke, yet Enjolras treasures with every fibre of his being.

He’s also wearing mittens, like, honest to God, actual red fluffy mittens that tickle the sides of Grantaire’s face when Enjolras cups it between his palms.

“I’d really like to kiss you.” Enjolras says, tracing the outline of Grantaire’s lips with one mitten-clad thumb. “Your lips look very kissable right now.”

“It’s probably the cold.” Grantaire says, stupidly, because Enjolras just asked to kiss him and sure, they’ve gone on a few dates at this point, but still.

Enjolras smiles, his eyes creasing around the edges. “Probably.” he agrees, moving one hand down to Grantaire’s neck. “Can I?”

Grantaire can’t find the words to express just how much Enjolras can, so instead he nods, feeling the ghost of Enjolras’ lips upon his almost as soon as he moves his head.

Enjolras’ lips are soft, which is unsurprising. His kisses are short, fleeting things, a warm mouth pressing against Grantaire’s for the barest of seconds before pulling away again. Grantaire brings his own hand up to Enjolras’ face, coaxes his lips into staying a little longer, makes the kisses slower, more languid.

It’s almost perfect, and Enjolras smiles when their lips part, eyes still closed, as if he’s taking time to immortalise the memory behind his eyelids.

Grantaire’s never felt happier.

Perhaps Grantaire’s favourite fact that he’s learnt about Enjolras is the way he kisses. Or, more specifically, the way he reacts to being kissed.

Lying side by side after a busy evening of studying together and watching cat videos on YouTube, Grantaire leans over to press a single kiss to Enjolras’ temple, letting his lips linger against Enjolras’ skin a moment longer than necessary.

As expected, Enjolras’ eyelids flutter closed. Grantaire smiles warmly. They re-open as Grantaire pulls away, tracing his movement through dark lashes.

“You’re cute, you know that?” Grantaire asks quietly.

Enjolras scrunches up his nose, which, as Grantaire said, cute.

“You’re doing nothing to disprove my point there, Enj.”

Enjolras simply gives him an affectionate roll of the eyes before leaning in closer to Grantaire’s side. “You’re cuter.” he mumbles into the fabric of Grantaire’s sweatshirt.

Grantaire kisses his forehead again.

Sometimes love is a big thing; a grand gesture or large announcement, the penultimate confession scene in a movie or dramatic chase for the protagonist to follow their heart.

Othertimes, it’s a smaller entity; late night conversations or shared feelings, the soft touches of natural intimacy or the simple comfort of another tangible being.

The first time Enjolras tells Grantaire that he loves him, they’re on the couch in Grantaire’s apartment, watching the best of the best cheesy rom-com films Netflix has to offer.

The credits are rolling, but instead of getting up, Enjolras and Grantaire stay cocooned on the couch, too content to move.

Grantaire is debating whether it would be a good idea to turn the autoplay on, when Enjolras laces their fingers together.

“Hey,” he says quietly. “I love you.”

Grantaire’s heart does a funny dive within his chest and he smiles before he’s even processed the full meaning of Enjolras’ words. Enjolras is staring at him intently, as if he’s trying to convey the extent of his love through his eyes alone. It’s almost enough to make Grantaire teary-eyed.

“I love you too.” Grantaire says back, even quieter, delighting in the way Enjolras seems to practically glow with the newfound knowledge.

He smiles, and Enjolras smiles back, like they’ve just shared some sort of secret.

“Soft.” Grantaire mumbles, running his fingers through Enjolras’ hair gently. Enjolras makes a small sound and buries himself further into the duvet. He’s never been a morning person and Grantaire chuckles to himself at all the memories he has of trying to coax a sleepy Enjolras into wakefulness with coffee and kisses.

“C’mon, sleepyhead, time to wake up. Bright and early.” Grantaire says, despite the fact that it’s eight ‘o clock on a Sunday.

“You wake up.” retorts Enjolras- not his best work, but Grantaire supposes he can be forgiven on account of how his brain still has a little longer to go before it’s functioning properly.

“I am awake, love.”

Enjolras grumbles, but maneuvers himself so that he’s half-laying across Grantaire’s chest, giving Grantaire better access to his curls. Enjolras sighs as Grantaire strokes his hair out of his face, one hand curled up against his hip and the other splayed out against Grantaire’s shoulder. Grantaire smiles as he brings Enjolras’ hand to his mouth to lay a kiss against his knuckles. “Coffee?” Grantaire asks quietly.

“God, yes. Please.”

Grantaire hums. “Alright. Be right back.”

Enjolras’ hand wraps around Grantaire’s wrist as he makes a sound of protest. “Stay.” he semi-whines.

Grantaire laughs. “Enj, if you want the coffee I have to go and fetch it.”

“Stay,” Enjolras repeats, tugging Grantaire back down to lay with him. “I’d rather have you. Coffee later, cuddling now.”

Grantaire is only too happy to oblige.

Grantaire is systematically working the tension out of his boyfriend’s shoulders and upper back, cherishing the little contented hums Enjolras makes whenever he rubs a particular spot.

“You’re always so tense.” Grantaire mutters, leaning down to press kisses against Enjolras’ shoulders.

“Mmmm, I wonder why.” mumbles back Enjolras, though the corners of his mouth are turned up ever so slightly.

They both know why; it’s a combination of stress, wearing a binder for eight hours a day, and the weight of a messenger bag that somehow always ends up heavier than it started off. (Grantaire has tried to convince Enjolras to stop making so many trips to the library to no avail; Enjolras devours books almost as quickly as Combeferre- which is saying something, given the man’s infamous reputation for reading the entirety of War and Peace in two nights.)

Grantaire’s glad he can be of help- even if it is only in this small way. It’s easily intimate, being with Enjolras like this, and Grantaire’s beyond grateful that it’s normal for them to share moments like this together- a few years ago he wouldn’t have believed it to be possible.

Enjolras hums as Grantaire rubs his shoulders, and then Grantaire’s hands are being gently swatted away as Enjolras moves to sit up, a contented smile sitting on his face. “Thank you.” he says, trailing light fingers down Grantaire’s jawline before moving to bring their mouths together. The kiss is slow and languid and Grantaire smiles onto Enjolras’ lips, feeling Enjolras do the same.

“Mmmmmm,” Enjolras murmurs as they break apart, “Your turn now, c’mon, roll over.”

“Enj, you don’t have to-”

“Oh, hush you; you know I do, now roll over.”

“Bossy.” Grantaire chides, yet obliging all the same. It’s practically routine by now, anyway- no matter how much he protests, Enjolras will always insist on returning the favour, probably in the interests of equality or something similar. (It’s not like Grantaire’s complaining; Enjolras gives quite satisfactory backrubs.)

“Enj?”

“Mhmm?”

“I love you.”

Grantaire doesn’t need to turn around to know that Enjolras is smiling when he replies, “I love you too.”

They get married on a Wednesday. Everything is hectic and everybody is stressing out and Grantaire almost works himself into a panic attack which he hasn’t done since he was eighteen, thank you very much.

Despite this, the ceremony is wonderful. There’s laughter and smiles and Grantaire feels so spectacularly happy he could shout it from the top of the Eiffel Tower and still the grin would not be swept off his face.

Now it’s late, and Enjolras stands in the doorway to their room, shirt untucked and tie hanging haphazardly around his neck. Grantaire doesn’t think he’s ever looked more beautiful.

“Come here, you.” he says, patting the side of the bed next to him. Enjolras huffs and rolls his eyes, although he’s clearly just as giddy as Grantaire.

“Yes, husband.” Enjolras replies dutifully, grinning as he walks over. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, Enjolras immediately pulls Grantaire in for a kiss. It’s soft and delicate and so, so lovely that Grantaire has to break away for smiling too much.

“Husband.” Grantaire says, fitting his mouth around the word. “I’m going to enjoy getting used to that.”

Enjolras beams at him.

Stop staring at me with them big ol’ eyes

The Tiny Anthropologist's Advice for College:
  • 8 AM classes really aren't that bad: It may take some willpower (and coffee) to get there, but really, 8AMs aren't that bad. Get a decent amount of sleep the night before and you will be okay. If I can get myself and my 4 year old out of bed, get ready, drop her off at preschool and arrive on time for an 8am, you can too!
  • Taking classes that meet once a week for long blocks: If your learning style is such that sitting in a long lecture once a week is something you can handle, then these are the best classes to take. Personally, I have done 3 semesters of these and they have been my favorite and the ones I have gotten the best grades in.
  • Scheduling back-to-back class periods: These can be beneficial if you're the type of person that just likes to get everything out of the way at once. However, the downside is that you will not have time to eat between classes, and you may have to grab something and eat during lecture. If the buildings for your classes are far apart, this may not even be an option. Having breaks between classes is important to allow yourself mental relaxation and to eat, or catch up on work.
  • Don't be afraid to change your major: I've changed my major a lot, like maybe 8-10 times. The downside is that I am graduating a year late, but I took A LOT of fascinating classes and became a much better rounded student. Colleges know that student change their minds. If you switch majors 2-3 times, you won't end up behind. I'm a special case.
  • Take long-hand notes: You may feel strange taking long-hand notes while everyone else is typing away at their MacBooks, but long-hand notes are MUCH more beneficial as far as long-term memory goes, and you don't run the risk of being distracted by Facebook.
  • Dress appropriately for class: The college stereotype of everyone attending class in their pajamas isn't true. At least make the effort to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Your professors will notice if you look like a slacker in class, and dressing nicely (or at least not in your pajamas) shows them that you value your education and respect their lectures. People wear anything from casual clothes to ties to class, and everything inbetween. Don't be afraid you'll be overdressed, being underdressed is much worse (in my opinion).
  • Cultivate relationships with professors: ATTEND OFFICE HOURS. Close relationships with professors are massively helpful! Professors are much more willing to write letters of recommendation, look over rough drafts, or help you out via email at 10pm for students that they know than ones that they don't. Additionally, professors can be some of the most interesting people you will ever meet.
  • Attend class: Along the same lines as above, attending class is very important. You (or your parents) are paying for you to be there. You should try to get the most out of that by attending lectures that you have signed up for. Additionally, when it comes finals time and you need to boost your grade, no professor is going to help you if you haven't attended their lectures.
  • Invest in a water bottle: Nothing is worse than sitting in a lecture dying of thirst.
  • Invest in a messenger bag, tote bag, or backpack: You don't have a locker in college and chances are your dorm will be far away from your classes. Make sure you have something to carry anything you'll need, from books, to pens and pencils, to a laptop, or even snacks like granola bars.
  • Take notes: Do it. Your professor knows more than you, that's why they are at the front of the room. Listen to them, and write down what they say. Then study it. This is how you learn.
  • Utilize the library: Other than during finals week, the library is pretty much a guaranteed quiet place to study. Additionally, college libraries have databases for research papers, printing services, and a whole lot more for students.
  • Eat alone if you want/have to: No one will judge you. I promise.
  • Annotate your books: Especially if you are an English/literature major! It is a lot easier to simply take all of your notes in the novel than to copy down page numbers and quotes into a notebook. Textbooks (like science ones) can be annotated too!
  • Don't let anyone shame you about your major: Each major is difficult in its own way. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're taking an "easy" major or that they are more intelligent than you because they are in a "hard" major. STEM majors are not better than Liberal Arts majors, and Liberal Arts majors are not better than STEM majors. Ignore anyone who says otherwise. Ignore anyone who says your major is pointless. This does not only apply to fellow students, but family, friends, and the world in general.
  • Prepare for advising periods: Class offerings are usually posted before registration is open. Take an hour to become familiar with the requirements of your department and the individual college it is in (if applicable), as well as University/institutional requirements (IE at UMass, my "college" is the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, while my department is Anthropology. The university itself, SBS, and Anthro all have different specific requirements I must meet to graduate) and make a list of classes you would like to take that satisfy these requirements. Advisors will appreciate it.
  • Take advantage of campus resources: Many colleges and universities have numerous extremely helpful resources, such as employment services which will help with resumes, or counselors for when you're having a hard time. Use these. They are there for you.
  • Keep yourself organized: Notebooks, highlighters, a planner, flashcards, an expandable file, binders, folders, literally whatever you need to keep track of all your papers, assignments, due dates, and what you need to help you study is important for you to have. If you don't know what helps you study or what keeps you organized, try some different systems or do some research.
  • Keep your syllabi: Every semester I buy a different notebook for each class I am taking, and I always keep my syllabus folded in half in the back of each notebook. It has saved my ass numerous times.
  • Check your email or the course website before class: Nothing sucks more than being the only kid who didn't know class was cancelled, especially if you're a commuter and you drove in/took the bus to a class that isn't happening.
  • Give yourself plenty of time: Whether its getting to class, doing homework, or writing a paper, make sure you give yourself enough time. This is especially important for commuters. I can promise you that you will need more time to drive to class than you think. I live less than 40 minutes away from UMass and I still leave 75-90 minutes before class starts.
  • Understand your learning style: Do flashcards work best? What about mindmaps? Answering questions at the end of the chapter? Understand what allows things to sink into your mind the best, and utilize that method of learning.
  • Honestly, you can get by with SparkNotes: I was an English major. We had to read, a lot and I didn't always read the novels. I used SparkNotes and skimmed chapters. While I wouldn't recommend relying on this entirely to graduate, it can help in a pinch.
  • Skipping class: I know I just told you to go, and I do mean that. But sometimes you need to skip class and be lazy or frivolous, and that's fine. Don't make it a habit. I usually allow myself 1-2 "mental health" days per semester. HOWEVER you should be VERY clear on the absence policy of your professors. Some don't take attendance, and others will kick you out if you miss 3 classes. It's always in the syllabus.
  • It's okay to withdraw from a class: Getting a W is better than getting an F. If a class is too much for you, then it's best to step out of it. Most professors will understand, and most grad schools and jobs will too.
  • Be kind to yourself: It's easy to only value yourself through school, as in what grade you got on a test, or how your GPA stacks up against others but we are all human and sometimes we fuck up and sometimes we do poorly and thats alright. Learn from it and move on.
  • Take care of yourself: !!!!! This is very important. Eat as well as you can/enough, sleep enough, don't become addicted to or dependent on drugs/alcohol, exercise (even if its just walking to class), take showers, etc. Sometimes taking care of yourself takes a back seat to taking care of your grades OR to having too much fun, and neither is a good strategy. Yes, college is a time to assert your independence and have fun and party, but if you do too much it will begin to affect your grades and your health.
  • Try to get internships or research assistantships/independent studies: These will look great on your resume and a lot of them are quite interesting/enjoyable. It shows initiative, drive, and motivation! Professors usually have independent studies and career/employment services (if your campus has that) can help with internship placement.
  • These are basic things that I have learned during my college career. I'm sure I could come up with more, but I hope this is helpful!

So last night I accidentally opened 3x19 and this one line caught my attention.

We all suspect Savitar!Barry is a future time remnants of himself, what if he is one of the remnants Barry created to battle Savitar? Somehow survived without 2024!Barry knowing? What if Savitar’s attack could scar a speedster (hypothetically) and he marked one of the remnants, and let that one live knowing that is his younger self? Creating a vicious circle? (Voldemort gives me the idea)

Anyways I’m just guessing here, who knows what the writers have in their mind lol

Hc that Lloyd starts using that: fair? Fair isn’t a word where I come from qoute and adapting it to everything

Lloyd: straight? Straight isn’t a word where I come from.

Lloyd after morro: sleep? Sleep isn’t a word where I come from.

Kai looking Lloyd dead in the eye: nyaint? Nyaint isn’t a word where I come from. *rest of ninja nodding in background*

SasuSakuSara minific "Sleeve Octopus"

“Sakura…”
“…” No response. The flutter of a cloth in the air continued.
“Sakura!”
“Yes darling?”
“I can see you.”
“See what?”
“You. Now, stop it.”
“Stop what?” She was blinking innocently with her big emerald eyes. He let out a deep sigh.

“Just because I am reading a scroll doesn’t mean I don’t see what you are doing. Stop mocking me.”
“I’m not mocking you!”
“Don’t lie to me, Sakura. I can tell when my wife is lying.”
“…”
“Promise me you will stop.”
“Okay! Alright, Sasuke-kun, it’s just…” she moved aside a bit and he was able to see their newborn baby propped up by a pillow. Sarada was happily babbling and her baby lips were curled into something strongly resembling a smile. “-it makes Sarada happy. We are only playing, I am not trying to make fun of you. But if you don’t like it I’ll stop.”

It made his daughter laugh. His precious little Uchiha princess looked like she was having a blast watching Sakura’s performance. He sighed once again.
“Fine, you can do it. Just… only in front of Sarada when we are home, okay?”
“I promise!” His wife smiled warmly and turned her attention back to their little bundle of joy.
“Hn.”

“Look, Sarada, mama looks like an octopus!” Sakura had Sasuke’s T-shirt with long sleeves on, left hand pulled only half-way into the sleeve. The fabric was loose and fluttered comically when Sakura moved her arm. “And thats also how papa looks like when he reaches up for something and forgets he doesn’t have his left arm anymore!” She laughed loudly at her own joke and Sarada followed her with bubbly noises.
“Sakura!”
“Sorry!”

Hello! Can I request a scenario where Kuroo tries to seduce his crush who playfully rejects his advances because they think he's just being a huge flirt when he's not being a little shit? thank you!!! I hope you have a wonderful day!!

Oh no!!! This has been sitting here (along with a bunch of other asks and drafts D:< bad, me)! I’m so sorry!! But this looks like a totally awesome scenario! So coming right up~ I hope you have had a wonderful time (waiting for this request <.<)! Thanks for requesting! Please enjoy this scenario as well as my apologies for this being late -n- -Admin 4AM

P.S I’m switching back to past tense verbs!! I’m trying to get into the habit again, have been ever since I opened up a general writing blog :U It’s hard.

“Hey there, come around often?~”

Kuroo-san, this is my desk.” A couple of your friends nearby covered their mouths to drown out their snickers. “We’re supposed to be in our assigned seats. Isn’t it that one over there near the front?”

“You remember where I sit? How cute that you’ve been staring-”

“I’m the class president, Kuroo-san. I’m supposed to know these things. You see, the homeroom teacher forgets their attendance book frequently so it is my job to be able to take care of class matters, is it not?”

“…Aren’t class presidents just representatives of the classes?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be in your seat, Kuroo-kun?”

“Ah, yes, sensei!” Kuroo shouted a little too loudly in your ear. The homeroom teacher rolled their eyes when he finally sat in his seat.

“I hope his flirting wasn’t too much on you, ____-chan.” The teacher voiced and sighed shortly after.

“It’s fine, sensei. He flirts with nearly everyone he sees, I’m sure that I’ll be fine because he has no real intent. Right, Kuroo-san?~” The teacher laughed and then proceeded to call out attendance. They commented on how close the two of you were, which made Kuroo play along and nod with a smirk. He hoped that you found his smirk the least bit attractive. You sent him a smirk in return, which made Kuroo’s heart nearly stop. He looked away with red tinting his cheeks.

Kuroo was found watching you talk with some of your friends during lunch. He tried to get the message across that he really liked you that morning, but it really wasn’t working out in his favor.

“Ah, how am I supposed to get them to notice me without them thinking I’m being a flirt!” Kuroo yelled. You looked his way and deadpanned, wondering what all the ruckus was about.

“Kuroo-san, please refrain from yelling. This is a classroom environment. Besides, your food is getting cold.”

“Then why don’t you come feed me?”

“I see nothing wrong with your hands, Kuroo-san. Are you cramping or bruised? You know the infirmary isn’t too far away.” Kuroo sighed in frustration.

“No, that’s definitely not it,” he said. You finished chewing on a bite of your lunch.

“Ah, no pain in your hands?”

“More like a pain in my chest.” Kuroo stared at you, which you did in return. Immediately you stood up and dragged Kuroo out of the classroom. “Where are we going?”

“I suspect that you may be experiencing abnormal chest pains or perhaps breathing errors. Your red face and lack of breathing after this long distance running isn’t affecting you at all. I know you volleyball players can’t run as fast or as long as the track players, but they’re usually panting slightly at this rate. It’s been five minutes of sprinting.”

“… Jeez,” Kuroo sighed. Your hand gripped his own even tighter, and his face got undoubtedly redder. He found it hard to form words when you were even touching him.

“Need a break?”

“Yeah.” The two of you stopped just outside of the infirmary. You managed to catch your breath before Kuroo did, so you rubbed his back just to make sure he’s okay.

“Breathe, Kuroo-san. I’m here with you,” you said as Kuroo turned away for a quick second.

“____…”

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry… you’re just making me fall even harder,” Kuroo mumbled. You moved to stand in front of him and then grabbed his shoulders.

“Kuroo-san, maybe if you sit down then you won’t have to fall.”

“… I can’t believe I’m in love with you.”

“Ah, ____-san, Kuroo-san, what are you doing outside of the infirmary?”

“Nurse-san… I think I’m having a heart attack.”

“____?!”

I'm pretty sure you saw my reblog, but I don't wanna miss your answer when you get to it. Can you do a dragon prompt for Tiger's Eye? I adore tigers eye!

Tiger’s eye is for travellers and protection. Tiger’s eye is a small, shining dragon pressed into a wanderer’s hands. For luck, their loved ones whisper, and safe return. Tiger’s eye is chatoyant eyes glinting in the light of a campfire, and flickering light gleaming off a hide of shimmering golden threads. Watching, warding. Protecting against thieves and the things which lurk in the night.

Tiger’s eye is the dust of the road and new horizons. Small, gleaming dragons swarming over the banded scales of much larger dragons of tiger iron, befriending the roadhouse guardians even as their humans make new friends within.
