She’s So Gone (Rucas)

Okay so this was supposed to be a one-shot but i can’t do anything short so this will be a two or three part story. I hope you enjoy!

It was a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon with the group of six friends in their usual spot at Topanga’s bakery. They needed to get their homework done for school tomorrow but it wasn’t going so well. Most of them had massive headaches and were feeling quite sick after the raging party they had attended last night.

“I don’t know how I am supposed to finish this stupid english paper?” Lucas asked groaning.

“I don’t know man but I gotta finish mine too,” Zay said slapping Lucas’ shouldeer.

“I have to finish this spanish homework. Do you know how hard it is to think in a foreign language with a hangover?” Riley said exasperatedly.

“Good thing I don’t care about grades too much or this would be very stressful,” Maya joked. “Except I can also handle my alcohol better than you lot.”

After a while of complaining and trying to get through their homework they either finished or gave up. They hung out for a while but soon decided it would be best if they went home and rested. First gone were Smackle and Farkle, then Zay and Lucas, and finally, Maya and Riley walked back to Riley’s house. When they got their they both got a giant glass of water and some aspirin and sat in the bay window in silence for a little before Riley spoke up.

Chapter 8 - “Riley Can Speak For Herself”

Everything was slowly going back to normal. Riley was no longer grounded so she could see her friends again, her parents were finally in the know about what really went down with Sam and her and Josh were on good terms. Everything was looking up. Especially with Lucas.

It was simple, really. She liked Lucas. He liked her. The problem was she still wasn’t allowed to see him. Her parents were still sensitive to the ‘breaking curfew/spending the night with him’ issue. They didn’t want her dating anyone, let alone him. She understood their concerns but she didn’t want to be crippled by ‘what ifs’ anymore. So she and Lucas started sneaking around.

The good news? Nobody knew but Josh. Which meant she had someone to cover for her if need be. After hearing about what Riley went through with Sam, Josh just wanted his sister to be happy and he could tell by the look on her face that Lucas was the one for the job.

The bad news? Nobody knew but Josh. It’s hard enough to keep a secret from two people, let alone seven. Maya suspected it but never asked. They had this unspoken rule where the less they knew, the better.

Day 3 of Spirit Week: Superhero Day.

‘Come on Riles!“ Maya groans. “Pick someone already and let’s go!”

Something crashes in the closet and Riley stumbles out dressed as an odd mix of Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Scarlet Witch.

“Thoughts?”

Maya tilts her head to the side. Her red cape falls with her. “Eh…I doubt Mr. Matthews is going to let you leave the house wearing any of…” Maya waves her hand up and down, gesturing at Riley’s outfit. “That.”

“Dad. Right.” Riley marches back into the closet and emerges again a minute later. She spreads her arms wide and spins. “Better?”

Maya shrugs. “Who dat?”

“Peggy Carter…she’s a SHIELD agent.”

“What’s dat?”

“Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.”

“…”

“It’s a secret government agency that works with the Avengers.”

“Avengers…?”

Riley rolls her eyes. “Iron Man.”

“Gotcha!” Maya smirks then nods her head side to side, mulling it over. “She’s…alright. I mean, she’s definitely more modest.”

Riley’s face falls. “Is that bad? Do I look bad? Should I change again?”

“Absolutely not!” Maya tosses Riley’s backpack to her. “You’re gorgeous! Now, let’s go!” She grabs Riley’s left arm and yanks her out the bay window behind her.

“I dunno guys…I think the fairy wings were a bit much.”

“It was the only thing I could find short notice!” Farkle shrugs. “You snooze, you lose.”

“Shut it, Spidey.” Zay grumbles.

“Okay, knock it off guys,” Lucas chuckles.

“Dude,” Zay groans. “Just cause you’re dressed as Cap, doesn’t mean that you have to act like him.”

Lucas knits his eyebrows together. “I wasn’t aware that I was…acting like him?” He looks at Farkle for confirmation.

Farkle nods slowly. “Maybe just tone down the righteousness.”

“Yeah,” Zay adds while adjusting the wings strapped onto his back. “A little less, of the…captain…ness.”

Lucas rolls his eyes. “Whatever you say.” He turns and walks down the steps that are in front of Mr. Matthew’s classroom. “Hey,” he bumps Farkle’s left side with his right hand. “Here come the girls.”

Riley and Maya take the last step out of the “hole” and hit the landing.

“Are you sure that I look okay?” Riley asks as they open their lockers.

Maya nods. “Positive.”

“Only fools are positive.”

Maya shoots her a look. “Don’t make me smack you.”

Riley sighs and gathers her books in her arms. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath as she closes her locker, turns around, and leans back against the cold metal. “I should’ve been Wonder Woman,” she grumbles.

Maya closes her locker and turns with her back against them so she’s mimicking Riley’s pose.

“Maybe,” she smiles. “But then you wouldn’t be matching with Ranger Rick. Or…at least, I think that’s what that stupid look on his face means…”

Riley’s eyes open wide and she searches the landing for a moment before connecting with her boyfriend’s bright green eyes as he walks over to them, closely followed by Farkle and Zay.

“Sup,” Maya nods at them.

“Who are you supposed to be?” Zay gestures at her.

“She’s Supergirl,” Farkle says quickly before Maya can. “Interesting choice,” he adds. “I would think that you’re more of a White Canary or Black Widow.”

Maya raises her eyebrows and shakes her head slowly. “I have no idea who those people are. I only know about this one because I remembered seeing a picture of Superman with a girl version of Superman.”

Farkle scoffs. “Liar.”

Maya sticks her tongue out at him and he laughs.

Riley finally stops looking at  Lucas and turns to her friends. “What about you guys? I know Farkle’s Spiderman, but who are you?” She nods at Zay.

He groans. “Falcon. Since Lucas is Captain America, I figured I should be his right hand man. But all I couldn’t find any wings so Farkle brought me these.”

“Nice,” Maya laughs.

“Oh yeah?” Zay challenges her. “Nice towel.”

Maya stops laughing and glares at him while the others laugh at them.

“Did you guys plan this?” Farkle gestures at Riley and Lucas.

They shake their heads.

“What?” Maya looks confused. “What’d they do?”

“They’re matching.” Farkle gestures at them again. “Steve Rogers slash Captain America is in love with Peggy Carter.”

Maya fake pukes then turns and heads into History. After a moment, Zay and Farkle decide to go on in as well.”

“I like your shield,” Riley smiles at Lucas.

“Thanks,” he laughs lightly and spins it once in his hands before looking back at Riley. “I like your hat.”

Her cheeks flush and she smiles a little brighter. “Thanks.”

They stand there for a minute, awkwardly smiling at each other while other students pass them.

“We should-” Riley takes a step toward class.

“Yeah,” Lucas nods and gestures for her to walk ahead of him. “After you m’lady.”
