Beauty and the Beast, by Max Eilenberg, illustrated by Angela Barrett (2006)
Along with the 1987 book by Marianna and Mercer Mayer, this is one my favourite illustrated versions of Beauty and the Beast. I own this gorgeous book and the retelling itself is lovely, the mid-Victorian setting unique, and the illustrations are at once both dark and dreamlike. The Beast looks like he came from the land of the Wild Things, and Belle looks like she floated in from the 19th century. Just breathtaking.
