With LGBT Pride this month, we’re continuing to spotlight some of the amazing films about LGBT subjects that have played Tribeca throughout the years.

Next up is Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s HBO documentary The Battle of AMFAR. As AIDS waged a plague on the worldwide LGBT community in the 1980s, Elizabeth Taylor and Dr. Mathilde Krim joined forces to launch amfAR: The Foundation for AIDS Research. Their efforts to create the country’s first research foundation devoted exclusively to the disease are captured in this absorbing and evocative chronicle that should be required viewing for all.

Know your history. The battle is not yet over.

Documentary Explores How Elizabeth Taylor Joined Forces With A Scientist To Fight AIDS

Upcoming HBO documentary “The Battle Of amfAR” looks at the lives of two very different women Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor and research scientist Dr. Mathilde Krim who …

I’M KINDA WORRIED THIS DOCUMENTARY WILL BE TOO MUCH OF MATHILDE KRIM WHEN AMFAR WAS MOSTLY ELIZABETH TAYLOR’S WORK, AT LEAST THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF IT.

LIKE WHEN LIZ AND MATHILDE KRIM HAD A FIGHT BECAUSE ELIZABETH WANTED TO MAKE AMFAR A GLOBAL EFFORT WHILE KRIM SIMPLY WANTED THE ORGANIZATION TO STAY IN NEW YORK AND FOCUS SOLELY ON RESEARCH INSTEAD OF GLOBALLY HELPING PEOPLE.

IT WAS ELIZABETH WHO FOUGHT FOR THAT.
