From design to costume: favourite departures from the design
Nothing makes me happier than seeing costume makers allowing Maria Bjørnson’s design to come absolutely alive, paying attention to every tiny detail she put into the sketches. But there’s also been some really nice costumes departing a bit from the design, or at least the sketches I have. Heres five favourites from “Masquerade”, as requested by @rjdaae
so i’ve been making monthly fic recs for a full year now! that’s so insane to think about honestly. thanks for all the support! my first monthly fic rec was for april 2016 and it had 10 fics on it. now they have upwards of almost 30 fics. that’s character development. anyway…
here are a bunch of fics I’ve enjoyed and loved reading throughout the month of march. I recommend that you read these great fics in april, if you haven’t already.
(all fics with a star are my favorites and if there are two stars then it was a favorite favorite)
What do you do when your best friend asks you and your (now) ex to be the best men at his destination wedding? You can either tell him the truth, tell him you’re not together anymore, and deal with the consequences, or you can pretend you’re still together and roll with it, just pray you don’t spiral. Fake it ‘til you make it. You know, for the sake of the wedding.
What happens when all you had, all you loved, all you held dear is viciously ripped away from you? When your inner core, once filled with love and hope and light, blackens to raw, dark hatred?
What happens when your soul is hopelessly consumed and no matter how hard you try, no matter how hard you attempt to shake yourself out, to rid your tormented mind of the opaque feelings that plague you, all you can see, all you can feel, all you can want is…
A modern adaption of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. A tragic tale of timeless undying love, merciless revenge, and selfless sacrifice.
Marinette, or in this case, Mary, is a girl with great talent but has confidence issues. She’s always in the company of her more confident best friend who always has her back. Adrien, or, Joey, is a local celebrity who wants to go to school like everyone else. He’s accompanied by his best friend who supports him in his own decisions.
And look, they even sit next to each other
The blonde queen bee mean girl that said celebrity knows personally, who wants him for herself, followed by the equally mean lanky friend, and look, a brunette with bangs, just like Volpina. Intelligence may be lacking, but all are equally sly. They also want the main guy.
Does this scene look familiar to you? Yeah it dooo.
Mary’s confidence really grows when she’s dancing. She and Joey are very in sync and dont know who their partner is behind the mask. Just like LadyNoir. +Those clothes!
Oh and their friends are a couple as well, djwifi anybody?
Happy Halloween 2015! To celebrate, I thought I’d paint one of my favorite masquerade scenes in one of my favorite movies. Sarah and Jareth are such a problematic fave (but I really just love His Royal Tightness, so shhh, Sarah can go away), but this is such a gorgeous scene, such fabulous costumes. I enjoyed painting it.
This is NOT a Photoshop filter, every stroke is painted by me.

“Lucas! Lucas! Were you listening to a word I was saying?” Isadora Smackle’s voice is loud and disruptive and it effectively snaps Lucas from his daze, and he focuses his attention back on his best friend, who’s staring at him with a cocked eyebrow and an annoyed look on her face. He grins sheepishly, knowing that he’d been caught.
“No, sorry, Smackle. You were talking about your chemistry class though, right?” Lucas takes a sip of his water, desperately trying to keep his eyes on his friend, and now the brunette girl three tables down from them. He watches Smackle roll her eyes, seemingly knowing exactly where Lucas’ attention was, but she didn’t comment.
