mask of sanity

I want to see the face behind the mask of sanity you wear. I want to see the wounds you’re covering with blue, dark shades. I want to hear your psychotic thoughts and touch your sharp parts. Simply, I just want the side of you that you think no one can ever handle because baby, I can.

I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don’t know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

How psychopaths put on the "mask of sanity"

Researchers found that psychopaths used the past tense, dysfluencies like “uhs” and “ums”, and subordinating conjunctions like “because” and “so that” more often. This indicates psychological detachment, allows time for the person to gather thoughts (or lie), and creates a sense of logic, respectively. Psychologists call these speech patterns “putting the mask of sanity on.”

some au things i decided to write down

Jack floats around on a lil cloud a bunch
Davey will become melty and weird if he gets too overwhelmed, but yes, his currents stir up too
Crutchy likes to imitate life by putting on lil animal masks
Boots represents sanity or maturity
Bumlets is confidence
The refuge is literally a place of nightmares, like, it’s a place where you’re in the illusion that your nightmares are real
“Anxiety and Fear can make Life seem to not be worth living.” -Bae “Angst Master” Anon
When Spot gets angry, he’ll like, heat up. When he’s relaxed he’ll become softer and his flames will die down
Davey and Crutchy have a garden! Mush helps out!
Mush’s brightness is dependent on how he’s feeling

Flowers of evil, whether splendid, redolent and darkly glittering, or mediocre, may choke out the blossoms ordinarily considered desirable. But the psychopaths whose stories are offered here do not seem driven wildly and at random by such winds of passion…nor is it likely that their souls are played upon like stringed lutes. One may listen indefinitely for the tragico-romantical notes of such a vibration, but he will listen in vain. The winds of passion are blowing almost imperceptibly, if at all, and no strings are in the lute. No vivid fleurs du mal will be culled from this garden, for the garden is barren.
