Book Spotlight: The Chicana Feminist
The Chicana Feminist is a series of essays and speeches written by Martha Cotera that explains in detail what a Chicana feminist stands for. Cotera was one of the first Chicana writers to explicitly discuss intersectional feminism to disassociate the Chicana movement from the Chicanos and the White feminist movement during the ‘70s.
She challenges the “ideal role of women”, identity, racists and classists issues in separate sections of this book. She also brings to life many Mexicanas that have been overlooked and unacknowledged in World history books and also by their own culture, as a way to inform her readers that Mexicanas have always been fighting right next to men for centuries.
