It ran for twenty years… with a whopping THREE HUNDRED and SIXTY-FIVE (365) episodes, and FIVE (5) made for TV movies.
James Arness, Marshal Matt Dillon, was with the show throughout its TWENTY year run, as was Milbourn Stone who played Doc Adams.
Amanda Blake, Miss Kitty Russell, was with the show for nineteen of the twenty.
During its run, a number of big name stars had guest roles in various episodes, the most famous being Bette Davis!! Other stars included Burt Reynolds, Marin Landau, Cloris Leachman, Jon Voight, Katherine Ross… and a whole host of others!!
And, for Gunsmoke’s premiere ep, it was introduced by none other than John Wayne.
I am not a big fan of westerns. But I LOVE this show. Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but it holds a very special place in my heart. It brought many wonderful people into my life… (Much like Judi has now.)
So, to celebrate today… thought I’d share a few of the wallies I’ve made. both the generic ones, and a few of the episode ones.
#1 - Tis the first one I made for GS, and it is still a favourite of mine.
#2 - This was originally a B&W photo that was used as a promo pic when they FINALLY started releasing the show on DVD!
#3 - Made from a cap of the Season One episode, The Hunter.
#4 - My favourite pic from a set of pics from a Time Life Photoshoot back in 1955. The quote is a Dr. Seuss one I believe. It was made for a friend.
#5 - S18, E13 - Hostage
#6 - S15, E16 - P.S. Murry Christmas
#7 - S15, E9 - The Badge
#8 - S11, E1 - Seven Hours to Dawn
#9 - S12, E3 - The Jailor
#10 - S17, E 14, 15, 16 - Gold Train/The Bullet
I think… maybe… I just might watch an ep tonight to celebrate.
In my ultimate dream adventure where I go out west in search of Jesse James’ hidden gold while being chased by CyborgHitler and his band of evil Hydra super-Nazis, I want my magnificent team to be composed of Marshal Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke, Cheyenne Bodie from Cheyenne, Paladin from Have Gun Will Travel, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Lee van Cleef, Charles Bronson, Sam Elliot, Robert Duvall, and Paul Newman.
