Pictured are the marquees featuring Frank Sinatra at the Paramount Theater in New York— from his first appearance on December 30th, 1942 and after his rise to stardom on October 12th, 1944. When Sinatra appeared with the Benny Goodman band in 1942 as an “extra added attraction,” he was just beginning his career as a solo artist after a successful run with the Tommy Dorsey band. Sinatra took the stage and the audience immediately began to scream for him in a way that no one had ever heard before. Benny Goodman famously turned to his band and asked, “What the fuck was that?”
