Queen Naerys Targaryen, sister-wife of Aegon “The Unworthy” IV Targaryen, was said to have almost an unworldly beauty, and was crowned the “Queen of Love and Beauty” by her brother Aemon the Dragonknight. Devoted in her faith she asked Aegon, after the birth of her son, Daeron, to release her from her vows so she could begin a life dedicated to the Faith. Aegon refused, and remained unhappy in her marriage with only her son, Daeron, and brother, Aemon, able to make her smile.
It is rumoured that, although she was quiet and sickly her whole life, her heart openly belonged to her brother Aemon the Dragonknight, and that he was the true father of Daeron. More tragic it seems, that her life ended shortly after Aemon’s. ‘
Naerys is also the mother of the first Daenerys Targaryen, born much later in Naerys’ life, who later wedded Maron Martell, in order to bring Dorne into the Seven Kingdoms.
