Samuel L. Jackson first met Marlon Brando when he sneaked up behind Jackson and started reciting his famous speech from Pulp Fiction. They exchanged numbers, Jackson called, and he discovered that Brando’s calls were always filtered by someone pretending it was a Chinese restaurant, because only people who were supposed to have the number would think to ask for Brando. Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando are the only actors to win an Academy Award for playing the same role. The role was Don Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, in which Brando won for playing the elderly mob boss, and De Niro won in The Godfather Part II playing the young, up and coming Italian mob leader.

Marlon Brando was in an acting class that was told to act like chickens and that a nuclear bomb was about to fall on them. Most of the class clucked wildly, but Brando sat calmly and pretended to lay an egg. When Stella Adler asked why he said, “I’m a chicken, What do I know about bombs?”
