Here’s a long list of herbal and plant uses from Ann Moura’s Grimoire for the Green Witch. It’s a very useful resource and I highly recommend it. Some of these herbs are common, some of them I’ve never even heard or seen in real life. As a bit of a spiritual bioregionalist myself, I tend to work with herbs and plants that grow native in my landbase (which a few of these do!), but hopefully this very comprehensive list is helpful to some of you out there.

This little specimen bottle is stuffed full of heirloom marigold seeds that you can plant as you go on your daily adventures! These flowers are so easy to grow, and create strikingly large plants FULL of uniquely striped blooms! Plant one in someone’s yard, along the sidewalk in the city, in a friends garden, anywhere that needs a little color and life!… Where it came from will be a mystery, but you will know, and enjoy seeing the beauty you brought to life! You will also be helping pollinating insects, such as bees and butterflies! I grew tons of these in my garden this year, and the pollinators LOVED them! Give someone the gift of a surprise plant! Please do not plant these seeds in the forest, preserve such places for the native wildflowers!

Note: Please do not plant these seeds in the forest! Preserve such places for native plants! Many forests contain very fragile environments, new plants should not be introduced, as it interferes with the life that depends on these wild locations.

Unrequited Love Spell

If you’re sweetheart isn’t sweet on you, take a tip from Slavic tradition:

1. Scoop up some dirt from the footprint where your beloved last walked.

2. Obtain an eight-inch terra cotta pot (less than $4 usually).

3, Paint a heart on one side.

4. Place footprint dirt in the pot, add potting soil till full.

4. Place 3 marigold seeds in the pot.

5. Water and place in a sunny spot. Keep moist.

6. Just as the marigolds are said to be ever blooming, so too will their love be ever growing and blooming.

7. But honestly, forget them. You got marigolds. You don’t need their ungrateful ass.

Boss just gave us a gift:  FLOWER SEEDS.  We got our pick of aster, marigold, or cosmos seeds.  I picked cosmos, of course, because they’re so pretty!!

And now I’m all up in Pinterest, trying to figure out how to give them the best chance, as well as which part of the front lawn to rip out to make these cosmos happen.  There’s a strip along the driveway that I could easily repurpose…

On a related note, the boss also got some houseplants for the office, and I want to re-pot them.  I like plants. :D

This weekend I painted two rooms and my door and planted a dogwood tree. Next, planting pumpkin and marigold seeds as well as these two little phlox plants and a blueberry bush! My little house is looking cuter and cuter!

July 27, 2016

I wish I could sort, pack and swap seeds 24/7. I’m always in my happy place - thinking about where I’ll plant them next year, who I’ll swap them with and what they’ll do with them. Etc etc..

What seeds I have drying so far:
-Ground Cherry
-Marigold
-Plum purple radish
-Poppy
-Some flowers from a wildflower mix I don’t know
-Carpet of snow
-Black Nightshade

i.

where are forgotten things kept?
in the dusty filing cabinet
of my head
fallen
between the stacks

i remember
the beauty college
where i got my bangs cut,
crooked
i held my breath
from the smell of burned hair
i kicked my feet
in pinching shoes
that mama laid out
with socks
in perfect stacks-

(when did she stop doing that?)

i remember the day
he stopped the car
on the roadside
to hit
first me,
then her
while mama sobbed
in the second seat-

(she never stopped doing that)

what am i supposed to do
with these moments,
like stray weeds?

i planted a garden full of
marigolds and sunflowers those
seeds in my palm like
small prayers
they bloomed into
bent stalks and
broken wings and
fallen birds
looking small on their feathered backs

everything used to be so
Big and Bright and
Going Somewhere but
Here i am, it’s
1 a.m. my
eyelids burn and my
shoulder aches
my head is full
and swimming in the deep parts of some
haunted lake

i’m patting at
the mounded graves
of the places i used to haunt;
I’m walking through
the garden grave-

it’s filled with ghosts

they rise like steam

from the asphalt after rain

and i’m tired

of pushing them back down.
