ah jojo…mr jojo mayer. swiss drummer and recording artist residing in nyc for 25 or so years…he’s played with some massive names in music…has his own signature kit, sticks, pedal and travels around the world playing for guys that salivate over his skills on a daily basis...he’s an absolute demon on the drums and i really enjoyed shooting him…i also enjoyed getting kicked out of a restaurant with him too though unfortunately it was for the lamest reason so i won’t elaborate…

i had the pleasure of hanging with him while he’s in nz briefly on a huge world drum clinic tour…now what did he say…”50 clinics in 18 countries over 2 and a half months”…that’s tough! but what a cool guy…and a smart guy too who spoke to us about the time he dedicates to representing the arts in think tanks when back in nyc…jojo’s clearly a thinker and even more than that you really get the sense that he genuinely feels a responsibility to nurture the up-and-coming…over red wine, pizza and sticky date pudding we talked all sorts of topics…we talked lightly about the history of the drums and music…fascinating stories about the actual role of drummer boys in the American revolution and why it pays to be short for your age…the rise of depression correlating perfectly with the social media bell curve trend…we talked about how much every component of the music industry has changed since we’ve been in it…we talked about the philosophy of music in Europe as opposed to the US as opposed to Australasia…upcoming elections…arghhh! a thoroughly fulfilling night. jojo is meticulous in his information…he is observing youths and searching for a way to ascertain that knowledge will not be lost to these modern minds…it’s a great thing when someone like this walks into your world, albeit briefly…
