A little tidbit of where I was at all day and what I was helping with. A few of the brothers from our chapter went and helped behind the scenes. (As much as we could that is! Their chapter is HUGE) This is the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes playing an arrangement of the Star Trek: Into Darkness theme.
485 people on the field at once… I’m still amazed by that.
Fun fact, if you look up at the Jumbotron, you can see that they’re forming the Enterprise looking forward! :D
This goes out to everyone who told me that I couldn’t. This is me. Me spinning a sabre. A sabre in an actual show.
All through high school I was told that I couldn’t do this. Three years I was kicked off the sabre line because no one but me believed I could do it. And I started to believe them.
This year I tried out on a whim. As I auditioned for the sabre line, all I could think was that I couldn’t. I left the audition bruised and defeated, thinking there was no way in hell I was going to make even a B line.
But I did make the closer sabre line, and while it may not be the hardest work, or the sabre line, it is still sabre in the show and I’m incredibly proud that I get to be a part of it.
I was given a chance that no one had given me before. A chance that I intend to take as an opportunity to get better with the sabre. A chance to prove to everyone, including myself, that I can do this. I can spin a sabre.
