Orange Is The New Black creator working on a women’s wrestling series for Netflix [May 20th, 2016]
Who doesn’t love Orange Is The New Black? I feel like there’s a large population of people who got Netflix specifically to watch the show. For fans of the series who also love professional wrestling, here’s some exciting news!
You may have heard of Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (G.L.O.W.), a promotion from the 1980’s that focused solely on women’s wrestling. Ivory, for example, is among their alumnus. Jenji Kohan, creator of OITNB and Weeds, is currently working on a series based on the promotion and the (not so) glamorous side of women’s wrestling.
The show, tentatively titled GLOW, will focus on a struggling actress in the late 1980′s who lands a role in the promotion’s television show. The show is
written by Carly Mensch (Weeds, Nurse Jackie) and Liz Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) and executive produced by Jenji Kohan. I’m excited to see what kind of characters will surface, as the women in the actual promotion were trained by Mando Guerrero.
