today I have a bunch of things planned and I’m trying to get in gear to do it. I still have Childhood Besties bday party with her parents and her new bf, and then going to Bestie’s house to have her mom help me finish my cloak (with detachable hood) yassss.
I felt horrible, because I asked Bestie if her mom would be up for helping me alter a short 1960s fur trimmed coat into a cape. She said it would be fine, then drops the bombshell her mom had a concussion back in June, and she’s still getting better (!?!?!?!) so of course, the entire time I’m fretting, because Bestie’s mom has one of those industrial machines that will take off fingers if you aren’t careful. I was worried about going downstairs to use the bathroom or get water, because I didn’t want Mama to get hurt =/// (Bestie was working and working out, and doing her homework, so that’s why she wasn’t in this picture). Mama used this little machine instead, but still, Mama would be really good, forget a word in english (not too out of the ordinary, but it’s words she knows in both Spanish and English), and forget what piece we were working on. Not.. horrible, but around 9;30, I started getting exhausted (lack of sleep among other things). I asked Mama if she wanted to stop, and I asked a few times, because she is still healing.
Mama said no. We worked for about another hour, (I kept making stupid hand stitching mistakes), and then I went home. Mama was energetic and vibrant. She told me this is the best she’s felt in a long time. This project is helping her heal, but I’m still worried I’m going to overwork her. Today we’ll finish the lining, add buttons to the hood, button holes on the cloak itself, add a clasp, and it’s done.
I’m deep in this LARP game man. Mama was happy to chat about everything, and show me some sewing tricks, which will help me when I do more stitching. <3 I’m glad she said yes, and then pressured me into staying so she could try. Lol. She still has it, it’s just healing slowly.
