making of taal

writer tag thing

I was tagged by my beautiful @eufeme, love u booboo

1) What made you start writing for the first time?

i was reading a lot and realized i wasn’t seeing anything i wanted to read. i had so many ideas that apparently no one else was writing (they probably were, i’m just too lazy to dig that far). figured i’d write something just so i’d have something to read. also, i wrote stupid little stories when i was little and told stupid little stories too. my family hated it. they thought i talked a lot when in reality, i just had a very active imagination and liked the idea of changing who i was for a few minutes and telling the story of who i was in that moment.

2) If you could only write about the ocean, the forest, or the desert for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?

ocean. always the ocean.

3) Would you ever write a memoir?

yes but a funny memoir. like, the stuff itself would be about the traumas i’ve suffered throughout my life but the way it’s written would be funny. typical taal style

4) Do you like writing by hand, or writing with a computer?

computer. writing by hand is too slow for how i write i think. like the conversations i write move so fast in my head and hand writing that would be too slow. also i write stream of consciousness style when i write for myself and can’t handwrite that unless i want it to be illegible (i’ve tried journaling and my handwriting looks like shit every time i think of something else to write down)

5) Would you rather be popular among many readers, or unpopular, but loved by critics?

unpopular but loved by critics because then i’d be loved by the hipsters. love the hipsters. (just kidding. i’d rather be popular among readers) (no one writes for critics, you write to get something out in the hopes someone else sees it the way you do. the more people that see something the way you do or like the way you see something, the more satisfaction you feel. at least that’s how it is for me)

6) Do you listen to music while you write? What is the best writing music?

sometimes yes, sometimes no. depends on what i’m writing. the best writing music, though, is some of that khalid, a little of that frank ocean, throw in some of the weeknd, bit of sza. so, like, r&b i guess. something you can listen to with the volume low without getting distracted

7) Do people you’ve met find their way into your writing?

sometimes! i’ll change excerpts of the fanfic i write to 3rd person pieces without names (just leave it to pronouns and all) and show that to my best friend and she dies over it. also i took creative writing courses throughout university and HAD to show it to everyone for workshopping and all

tagging: god i think all the writers i follow were tagged????
