make friends with strangers

I would really love for more people to get on board with this idea by @wubkins for sharing love and positivist during to time of aggression. The idea put simply is to do a little doodle of Sam wearing a flower crown to show support to those that need it in the community and not just Jack’s community since the flower crown symbolizes a type of unite among us all. :)

So go make a quick doodle today and share it with friends and strangers by using the #SamsWithFlowerCrowns and go check out wubkins original post for this darling idea!!!

Two things you might not know about today.

1 - it’s this kids birthday. His name is Danny. He is now 7. Hes a really cool kid, and Im not just saying that because I made him. He loves farts, video games, and spreading kindness to everyone he meets. He is also autistic. He also attempts to make friends with every person he meets, offers hugs to strangers that look sad, and thanks every bus driver, janitor and waitstaff we encounter for a ‘job well done’. He also makes a habit of completely destroying gender norms. He tells 6"tall bearded men on motorcycles that they are beautiful, compliments folks on their nail polish, and frequenrly confuses people walking down the road for famous celebrities. Sometimes - small minded people take issue with some of these things, which leads me to the second thing you might not know about today….

2. It’s pink shirt day! See how Danny’s wearing a pink shirt - his says “respect” - but yours doesn’t have to, as long as it’s pink! Pink shirt day is a day when you show those around you that you’re willing to stand up against bullying - that you won’t allow those who are different than you, to suffer for it. That you won’t accept unkindness. That you respect the dignity and value of every life. Especially this year - when even elected officials openly mock and bully - it’s more important than ever to stand up and say “I will not allow this.” So wear a pink shirt today, if you can. ♡

The little dude up in that picture up there hopes you have the most amazing of days. Stay cool, folks.

a stranger asked me out for coffee in person and he was not creepy or old enough to be my grandpa. He was actually nice and approached me in a polite way and it got me thinking that i never would have asked anyone out in person. So in 2017 I am going to learn how to talk to strangers and make them to friends. No more apps and stuff

Everyone has a role to play in stopping sexual assault. Whether you do something drastic or simple, helping a friend or an absolute stranger can make a big difference.

Being a good bystander is not as hard as it might seem, and there are tons of ways to do it. To prove it to you, we’re teaming up with It’s On Us (@its-on-us) and Tumblr’s Post It Forward (@postitforward) to illustrate all the amazing ways people have stepped up for their friends.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be collecting your true stories of successful bystander intervention and will be asking you to create art that helps illustrate how someone can step in to stop sexual assault. We’ll be highlighting some of those submissions right here.

Want to participate and inspire others to step in? Share a story of when you or someone you know intervened.

You can also share your own story as an illustration or submit an illustration of one of the bystander stories collected by It’s On Us by January 30th for a chance to have your art featured on Tumblr. Submit here!

The Signs as Colors and Why

Capricorn would be green because green represents growth, harmony, and stability. Capricorns are always seeking to grow in their lifetime. They are usually stable in stressful situations which makes them the harmony of a problem because they’ll always know the answer or at least try to help out.

Aquarius would be yellow because yellow represents happiness, childishness, unstable, and can be disturbing if there’s too much of them. Aquarians always try to stay happy whether they need to or not. They’re also very childish with their friends and sometimes with strangers which makes them disturbing if they become too childish as they can become a little bit weird. Their emotions are also unstable and unpredictable.

Pisces would be white because white represents goodness, innocence, and purity. Pisces are always trying to go for the goodness in life and not the bad which can play in their innocence because sometimes, they ignore the world around them if it’s not their ideal image of happiness. They’re also pure as they are loyal and will never think of doing a fault.

Aries would be red because red represents emotions, visibility, quick decisions, passion, and energy. Aries can be very emotional but they usually try to hide it unless they’re angry, otherwise, they’ll give you all of their wrath seeing all of their passion with their anger. They always try to make themselves visible to others as they need to feel wanted all the time. They always find themselves in having to make quick decisions because most Aries are procrastinators or maybe they just always get in trouble. Some Aries may have lots of energy all the time; always ready to do something.

Taurus would be blue because blue represents trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, and faith. Taurus are very trustworthy people to have in your life which makes them also very loyal in a relationship. They are very wise as they use common sense in almost everything they do instead of just how they feel, etc. That is why they are so intelligent because they use brains instead of feelings. They are very confident and usually don’t care what others think of them or what they do which correlates to why their faith is so strong.

Gemini would be orange because orange represents happiness, creativity, determination, success, and encouragement. Gemini are always happy or try to be happy in every situation even if one side of them is telling them not the be. They are very creative which just comes naturally to them in everything from coloring to graphic design. Success is forever on their mind as they are determined to accomplish their dreams and life goals. They don’t just encourage themselves, they encourage others, too! They believe anyone can do anything they want to do in life, keeping that positive mindset.

Cancer would be white because white represents goodness, innocence, and safety. Cancers try to make everybody’s life good even if theirs is not which can be a good or bad thing because sometimes they are so focused on others lives that it seems they don’t care about their own. They can be very innocent to others feelings in situations that they’ve never been in or don’t understand very well. Cancers need to be explained why people feel the way they do in certain problems. They also like to keep loved ones or any for that matter safe. They’d risk their own lives just to save someone they love.

Leo would be red because red represents quick decisions, passion, and energy. Leos always feel the need to make quick decisions whether if it’s necessary or not. They usually don’t take time to think things through and just decide right away. Leos are also very passionate in the way they feel emotionally and about others. If they like someone, they’ll go all force to try to make them theirs. They spend a lot of the time being very active which means they have a lot of energy to spare throughout the whole day.

Virgo would be blue because blue represents trust, loyalty, intelligence, and faith. Virgos are very trustworthy. They keep secrets all the time that sometimes they can’t even keep track of them! They are also very loyal and would never spread rumors about a friend or cheat on a boy/girlfriend. They are very intelligent as they are always seeking for knowledge about anything and everything, even if it’s unnecessary for the outside world. Their faith is a big part of their lives as they rarely change their mind about what they believe in and never change it just to fit someone’s standard.

Libra would be purple because purple represents dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and femininity. Libras have a dignity that they would like to keep their entire lives and they would never like to ruin it or they’d be devastated. They are also a very independent sign who doesn’t like taking help from others even if they really need it. They are very creative but where that creativity comes from is a mystery. It could be from a number of things: maybe they were born with it; maybe they had a life trama  experience; whatever the reason, they’re very creative. They are also very feminine even if they want to admit it or not.

Scorpio would be black because black represents power, evil, and mystery. Scorpians always search for power, minor or major, in any situation. Whether they’re the leader of a project or just the one to take a shower first, they are thirsty for power. Make a Scorpio mad/sad, they become evil. They’ll bring up all of your mistakes in the past or reasons why they don’t even like you in the first place. Even so, they are a work of mystery. You never know why they do the things they do or say the things they say. They might not even know the answers themselves.

Sagittarius would be yellow because yellow represents happiness, intellect, childish, and disturbing if too much of it. Sagittarius are very optimistic people that try to see the good in everyday situations. They are very intelligent but usually hide it so they don’t seem like a know-it-all or they just don’t need to blurt out the information at the moment. Sagittarius are very childish and sometimes don’t realize what they’re saying or doing is childish, just one way to have fun in the world. Although, if you hangout with them for too long, they may become disturbing. They can reveal information that was unnecessary to know or they tell you dark things.

it has been one of the greatest and most difficult years of my life. i learned everything is temporary. moments. feelings. people. flowers. i learned love is about giving- everything- and letting it hurt. i learned vulnerability is always the right choice because it is easy to be cold in a world that makes it so very difficult to remain soft. i learned all things come in twos: life and death, pain and joy, sugar and salt, me and you. it is the balance of the universe. it has been the year of hurting so bad but living so good, making friends out of strangers, making strangers out of friends, learning [sweet tea] will fix just about everything and for the pains it can’t, there will always be my mother’s arms. We must learn to focus on warm energy, always. soak our limbs in it and become better lovers to the world, for if we can’t learn to be kinder to each other how will we ever learn to be kinder to the most desperate parts of ourselves.

You suddenly discover that no one will look at you. Your friends, family, strangers, and animals all make a point of turning away whenever you draw near. To your horror, you also realize when looking in a mirror even your own eyes are looking away.

i know you’re only supposed to do six pictures, but bitch i was making moves (clock that Entertainment Weekly watermark) and creating so many damn looks in 2016. From Seoul, Korea to Tokyo, Japan with friends, to meeting and making friends with strangers in the Tokyo streets, 2016 was a really transformative year for me. Here’s to realizing things!

my favorite thing about stranger things is that every single relationship in the show makes me want to fling myself into the sun.

you know how sometimes you’re having a bad day or an okay day but then someone does something nice for you and you just smile for a long time?? i want to be someone who makes other smile like that

the water signs, cancer, scorpio, and pisces can be master manipulators. considering their acute receptivity, detailed intuitive observation, and ability to conceive right into the wound, water types can read people like a book. they can identify their weak spots, the bruises that only need a slight touch to hurt. they can discern how people have sinned and bring this to the surface. they can colour the victim and the martyr with such fine detail. water signs hypnotize. they can reshape a mind.

libra’s sharp social intuition gives the individual a psychology book in the mind, accessible to only them. people can be viewed as rather abstract entities than actual human beings, because libra is so fascinated by this concept. libra can imitate, charm, and easily disarm. they can make strangers feel like friends. they can contour a personality that allures, deceives, and manipulates. leo on the other hand uses the same sort of charisma but filters a touch of martyrdom. their manipulation can be more expressive, dramatized, i need you or else i will break apart. the natural actor can emerge.

gemini manipulates through that wonderful and seductive way with words. that sort of innocent and young face can mislead from the mischief. the  voice can change. the eyes can change. the demeanor can become innocent and meek. geminis know what people want to hear.

Nine years of painting in a sketchbook

As a freshman in art school I cringed when I was told that students were required to keep a sketchbook. I never draw preparatory sketches because I like to work a painting out as I go, not in advance. When shown a finished artwork and its original sketch, I usually find the first draft to be more spontaneous, energetic, fresh and beautiful. But I was an obedient student so I forced my hand and began drawing in a Moleskine journal.

Drawing in public places always led to striking up conversations with strangers and helped me to make friends outside of school. I began drawing and experimenting on a daily basis. I bought acrylic ink for a school assignment and poured some into my sketchbook using an eye dropper. I liked how the ink bled onto other pages, adding color and texture. I fell in love with the medium and started drawing with ink using a dip pen and brush.

It’s difficult to use dip pens, brushes and ink jars while sitting in a cafe, so I began painting in my room. The privacy loosened me up and my themes became more personal. For years I was in the habit of punctuating paintings with song lyrics, but I finally started using my own poetry. After a while, I grew so invested in the sketchbooks that I began referring to them as “books of paintings” to imply they were complete, indivisible artworks.

I used to surf the internet to find images to draw, but that became boring because I kept googling the same things: antelope, construction cranes and light houses were among my usual search terms. In 2011 I got into photography and started using my own photos for reference. Now I exclusively paint scenes from memory or personal photographs.

Change is so gradual it’s hard to tell if I’m improving at all, so occasionally I flip through my collection of Moleskines. I think the most important creative change was the decision to stop copying images from the internet and other people’s poetry. This really opened me up creatively and I’ve become more observant of my surroundings– time spent outside of studio feels creative and productive because I always have an eye out for material.

casual reminder:
  • It’s okay if you don’t actually like being touched.
  • It’s okay if hugs, even with your friends/family, make you uncomfortable. It’s okay if hugs with strangers make you very uncomfortable. It’s okay if you only want to hug people for a very short amount of time. It’s okay if it’s a lot easier if you are the one in charge of how long hugs go.
  • It’s okay if spooning or snuggling with a partner is not a goal.
  • It’s okay if you need personal space. It’s okay if you are the friend who will sit on the armchair while everyone else snuggles on the couch.
  • It’s okay if you don’t even like when people type *hugs* or *pets* or *boops* or anything like that to you because even the thought of it just makes you squirm a little.
  • It’s okay if it takes you a very long time to want to share personal space with a friend or partner. It’s okay if you never really want to share personal space with someone.
  • It’s okay if you have to be in a very-happy, very-rare mood to crave physical contact. It’s okay if you only want physical touch in very sad times.
  • It’s okay if you prefer high-fives and fist-bumps because that’s the right amount of contact for you.
  • It’s okay if you want to cuddle or touch your romantic partner but not anyone else.
  • It’s okay if this is because of past trauma. It’s okay if this is because you are neurodivergent. It’s okay if you just don’t like it for no particular reason. You don’t have to explain or justify this to anyone if you don’t want to.
  • Basically, tumblr can be a very touch-positive, everyone loves snuggles!, hug all your friends! place and I want you to know that you are okay if you don’t like that. It doesn’t mean you don’t care about your friends. It doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of love. It doesn’t mean you are broken. It’s not something you have to try to “fix” or “get over.”
  • Some people need/want/prefer personal space. That’s okay.
  • You’re okay.

It has been one of the greatest and most difficult years of my life. I learned that everything is temporary; moments, feelings, people, flowers. I learned that love is about giving. Everything. And letting it hurt. I learned that vulnerability is always the right choice because it is easy to cold in a world that makes it so very difficult to remain soft. I learned that all things come in twos; life and death, pain and joy, salt and sugar, me and you; it is the balance of the universe. It has been the year of hurting so bad but living so good; making friends out of strangers, making strangers out of friends. Learning that mint chocolate ice-cream will fix just about everything. And for the pains it can’t there is always my mother’s arms. We must learn to focus on warm energy, always, soak our limbs in it and become better lovers to the world, for if we can’t learn to be kinder to each other, how will we ever learn to be kinder to the most desperate parts of ourselves?

ISFJ (the protector)

[ISFJs] are observant, cooperative, informative, and attentive. They are greatly concerned with the security of others and they often find assisting the downtrodden or people with disabilities to be satisfying. Protectors also find personal fulfillment in ensuring the safety of others and may be attracted to jobs that enable them to do this as medical practitioners or insurance agents.

Protectors often talk about daily life and every day concerns; however, they are not as sociable as other role variants. They tend to be talkative only among a close circle of friends. Their shyness with strangers can make them seem to be cold even though they are often warm and sympathetic. (x)

good thoughts from good guys. two years until another senate race. four years to help protect and make a home for my neighbors and friends and strangers who may be in danger. four years to do whatever I can for my LGBT community.

the pendulum swings back with a vengeance, and I want to help.

all of us will. you’ll see.
