maine 2012

the writer’s of the show may portray Leo as the main character, but i in fact think it’s actually April who is the main character.

like, literally so much of what’s happened wouldn’t have been possible without her? pretty much 80% of the plot line wouldn’t exist if April wasn’t involved. honestly, if she hadn’t met the boys on the night she did, the world would be colonized by the kraang by now and everyone would either be slaves or dead.

April O’Neil is the real 2012 main character as far as i’m concerned.

2012!dan’s thoughts on 2016!dan.

disclaimer: obviously there is no way of knowing what 2012!dan’s actual thoughts would be on his present day self. these are my own views and interpretations.

okay this literally took me about 10 hours to finish (once i start a drawing i keep going until i’m done otherwise i lose motivation). i’m honestly really happy with it, despite how fucking hard it is to draw 2012!dan’s hair jfc.

i see a lot of people genuinely believing that 2012!dan would be angry over everything that 2016!dan does nowadays, but i really don’t think that’s true. what do you guys think?

anonymous asked:

What happened in 2012 between dan and phil? Like i see people mentioning it a lot but never anything concrete

Nobody actually knows precisely what happened between them, anon! I wasn’t in the phandom back then, so some information may not be very accurate, but I’ll do my best to answer your question.

OK, so all of you have probably heard about the video (*gasps in the distance*) that got accidentaly unprivated by youtube, the one they both claim was a prank to the shippers? We don’t talk about it because it was something they never meant for us to see (or, if it was indeed a prank, they did, but they regretted and never showed it to us for a reason), so let’s not stick to that too much. I’m just mentioning it because, as far as I know, it was fundamental to everything that happened afterwards.

So the video got very public, the shippers got really wild and shit, so D&P had to do some damage control and take it off the internet ofc. Then started the darkest period in phandom history (seriously, as far as I know it was pretty bad) in which D*n absolutely LOST HIS SHIT on the shippers. I’m not even kidding! It’s easy to find anti-phan people spreading the pics from certain answers to asks D*n gave back then, which were at the very least too bitter and full of anger to be taken seriously.

So, yes, D*n mostly (I think Ph*l just went really quiet about all of it) got really angry at the shippers and then there was this long period in which they weren’t together in videos at all or, when they absolutely had to be, it was very guarded and distant (PINOF 4, everyone?), and it was either them overcompensating so people wouldn’t assume phan was real, or something really serious went down between them because of that video coming up (I feel like some sort of argument must have happened, it was too much!).

Either way, it was a long period in which the phandom was miserable and they got back to being the D&P we love gradually over time (right now they are even writing books together, man, after 2012 nobody thought we would ever see that day!). It was a long period of D*n constantly saying they were not the same person and they had their separate lives and channels, etc etc.

Things got really bad back then in other aspect as well, because there were also people prying into D*n’s personal life (they found his brother social media and it was a mess) so, seriously, the phandom should NEVER go full-on psycho like they did back then, because holy shit, it was awful! I’m glad we got over that, though! It’s just a reminder to NEVER got that much overboard again, we never know how they’ll react.

Who They Were Then

After two seasons existing off-screen, what, even, do we expect when Prince John shows up in the flesh in Season 3 episode 6?

Well, chances are it wasn’t this preening, needy psychopath who is starved for love

and in search of villages to torch.

He plays Guy and the Sheriff off each other.

He falls for a scheme that makes him believe he has the power to miraculously heal.

Generally speaking, he is The Worst.

And it’s awesome.

Who They Are Now

Toby Stephens, originally known for his Shakespearean and other stage roles (such as Orsino, below),

as well as for being the very promising son of Professor McGonagall/Dowager Countess of Grantham and lauded British thespian Robert Stephens, had been in film and on stage and radio for years before coming to Robin Hood. Heck, he had even played a Bond villain in Die Another Day. (Yes, that’s Madonna. Toby has worked with everyone, and their cousin as well.)

He continued for several years to bounce around various television properties, primarily mysteries, including becoming the main character on 2012’s Vexed as Detective Inspector Jack Armstrong,

but in 2014 found what well might prove his seminal small screen role, that of Captain Flint in Starz’s Black Sails. (*bloody gif provided expressly to feed @interestinggin‘s bulletproof kinks)

In 2015, he appeared in the well-received And Then There Were None Agatha Christie mini-series.

His ability to grow a wide variety of facial hair will always keep him employed in period pieces.

He is currently working on a Lost in Space series for Netflix, as John Robinson.

Heres a good laugh for anyone who needs it today. this video will never get old.

anonymous asked:

I was aware of the controversy surrounding Nick Spencer, but I had never actually cracked open one of his issues, but GOD DAMN WHAT?? What in God's name is even happening in his story??

Well. He decided to turn cap into a secret Nazi. And he tried to back peddle by saying
a) Hydra aren’t Nazis (they are)
B) attacking Nazis in real life “Is bad we should be civil. No one deserves a hit :(”
C) “trust me I’m going somewhere”

But now turns out the story of cap being a Nazi just made him EXTRA Nazi by saying the Allies altered the TRUE timeline wth a Cosmic Cube where the Axis powers won WW2, Cap was always a Hydra agent so the Steve we knew and loved was a fake (yknow the Steve created by two Jewish men).
So.
Yeah.
(Also the writing in general is kinda crappy and he has big gaping plotholes and thinhs that don’t even make sense like how does Nazi Steve remember real Steve when its not a brain wash itsa compete alteration of time? )
I’d say to maybe avoid main titles post 2012 and read Squirrel Girl or the Star Wars comics. Or just watch Avengers Assemble.

anonymous asked:

Do you know any dramas/movies/shows where the protagonist(s) is East Asian?

Hi! Since you’ve made emphasis on the protagonist, I’m only listing films/shows where the narrative is told/shown mainly from the POV of East Asian character (i.e., save for couple of exceptions, not listing ensemble shows/films like TWD or Humans for example) -

Films:

Shows:

  • Fresh off the Boat
  • Single by 30 [watch HERE | Original pilot]
  • Elementary
  • Dr. Ken - I know that it wasn’t received that well by the community but one thing I definitely respect a lot about this show is that they didn’t erase Suzy Nakamura’s ethnicity and that the Park family is canonically multiethnic - which they addressed in their Thanksgiving episode in season one. It’s quite rare to see that on screen.
  • Andi Mack - an Disney Channel television series set to premiere on April 7, 2017. First episode is on demand here.
  • Make It Pop - Canadian–American musical teen sitcom. I haven’t seen it, but from what I’ve seen they have a multiethnic Asian cast – they have actors of Chinese, Korean, Filipinx, Vietnamese descent. Again, that’s very rare.
  • Blood and Water - Canadian detective drama centering around Chinese Diaspora [read more here]
  • The Family Law - Australian comedy series centering around Chinese family [read more here]
  • Kim’s Convenience  - Canadian sitcom centering around Korean family [read more here]
  • Second Jen - Canadian sitcom about two second-generation millennial women growing up with immigrant families. Watch HERE [read more here]
  • Ronny Chieng: International Student - upcoming Australian comedy series. Trailer
  • Selfie  (sadly, cancelled)
  • One Child - three part BBC miniseries
  • Maximum Choppage - Australian six part comedy (1 season).  Trailer
  • Into the Badland - ensemble show
  • Agents of Shield - ensemble show
  • Marco Polo - ensemble show and technically, this one has a white protagonist, but (from those episodes I’ve watched) it seems that more emphasis of the narrative is on the Asian characters.
  • Highland - upcoming show starring Margaret Cho (not yet released)

Obviously this is not a full list, just the ones off the top of my head at the moment. Will update it, if I remember some more.

charminglittlehufflepuff  asked:

So, I've just recently started this HP blog, but I've been on tumblr on my main blog since like, 2012. I've seen tons of rp people and I'm still not sure how to even get started. I think I would enjoy it, but I know nothing. Any tips on getting started?

((OOC: I wish I could be more helpful, but I honestly sort of lucked my way into this whole thing. My first RP type post was in April. I posted a picture of my face covered in black liquid liner freckles, and said that in my mind Molly was covered in freckles, and Arthur liked to trace shapes on them, which would make her blush all over. I tagged a couple people in it and got a couple reblogs, which made me a little more confident. Then I posted a chapter to a fanfic prompt that @asktheboywholived posted, and they were kind enough to message me and say they liked it. Which made me more bold. Then I was playing around with lighting in my living room, had an idea, and posted these two things:

http://gentlect.tumblr.com/post/160711678147/meet-molly-prewett-shes-got-it-bad-for-arthur

http://gentlect.tumblr.com/post/160714963112/who-is-that-over-there-why-its-molly-prewett

That second one started getting reblogs [I was flabberghasted], and then I started getting messages asking about doing some threads, which are now being discussed and stuff. So, I mean, I guess, be bold and fearless about this. Pick a character you feel connected to, that you feel like you could play, and just put something out there. Then tag it like mad. Tag people you admire on it. They will probably see it. And then just see what happens. Because really, as soon as I decided to just be bold and trust in my own face, shit started happening real quick.

That’s really all I got, I hope that helps? ))

Retro Leading Ladies of Gaming 1- Recette LemonGrass

Game – Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale

Year Released: December 2007 in japan, September 2010 in NA and Europe

Platform: PC

Game Type : Single Player Action role-playing, business simulation.

“Capitalism, HO!”

“Recette Lemongrass is the main protagonist of Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale.

She lives alone in a house on top of a hill in Pensee after her father decided to become a hero, and went out on an “adventure” three months ago. Unbeknownst to Recette, he left her an outstanding debt so big that Tear won’t even tell her the total amount!

The player takes control of Recette to buy and sell items to gather enough “Pix”, the in-game currency, in her house-turned-item-store, Recettear (a portmanteau of the two partners’ names, Recette and Tear), to make increasing weekly debt payments over the course of five weeks.” – From the Recettear Wiki

Background : Recette will be the first of many women I look at over the year, and I’m happy the randomizer chose her first, as she’s one of my favorite choices among girls from less known games. I could talk a lot about the game, but for better or worse that’s not the focus here. What we are here to talk about is the main heroine of our adventure, Recette.

Recette is a young girl of age unknown (probably between the ages of 12-16? Who knows with these types of things?) She’s been living her life in her home city doing dick all it seems, since her father decided to go try and be a hero and has not returned. One day a fairy, Tear, shows up and tells her that her dad dun got himself dead and now she’s settled with all his debt, because apparently he took it all out in student loans and that shit never goes away.

Personality :  Recette is… a bit “light “ on the thoughts, and a bit more about the actions.  She tends to think before she acts at times, but is kind, thoughtful, and sincere in her words. If she says she’s going to do something, it’ll get done.  She’s also endlessly positive and optomisitic, and despite the shitty situation she finds herself in, she keeps on trucking, and never gives up. Much of her personality is evened out by her co-worker/handler/knee breaker Tear, the fairy who basically helps her set up the racket  totally legit business of running the item shop. Her personality doesn’t change too much through the game, except for her opening up more to others, learning to believe in herself, and develop a close friendship with Tear and the adventurers in her life.

She also has a very VERY strange and active imagination, often letting her thoughts go where they may, often to strange places, such as weird ways to make money, or pay off her debt. She’s also quite talented, not only in dealing with others, but in various skills, such as needlework, knowledge of local flora, craftsmanship, and being a pack mule for the tons of loot found in dungeons.

Role in the game: Recette’s place in the game and world is that of an item shop owner. She’ll buy low/sell high, and work her butt off to get the best prices, in order to acquire enough shekels to pay off her father’s debt, and be a strong independent woman who don’t need no adventures.  She can also join various adventurers in world on their travels into dungeons, and although she cannot directly interfere, she can assist them if they are hurt, and carry all the stuff they find to sell later, all at the low low cost of either paying them up front, or becoming their friends and going for free. As far as the story goes, it full revolves around her and her attempts to make money, and once you hit endless mode, it’s more about finding out about the other characters, the secrets behind the dungeons and maybe even… THE ACTUAL FATE OF HER FATHER !!! DUN DUN DUN!

As a video game character she doesn’t really have much in the way of abilities or skills, since the majority of the game is haggling, talking, and selling shit, but that’s just fine, as it suits the mood and tone of the game perfectly. Recettee is as capable as she needs to be, and meets any challenges put before her.

Relationships: Through the game, Recette meets and befriends various characters, including adventurers, a rival shop runner who is snobby, rich, and has her own fairy friend, the town vendors, and MYSTERIOUS STRANGERS. As with most things, Recette’s interactions with most of the other characters is amusing, light hearted, and positive.   There is no romantic relationship in the game, and minimal familial one, so almost all her interactions are with friends and strangers.

Of all the relationships however, of most importance is that she has with Tear, the fairy who came to collect on what’s owed. Although their initial meeting wasn’t due to the best reasons, they become much closer, with Tear eventually filling kind of a mentor/big sister role to Recette.  When the game is over, and Tear set to leave, Recette expresses her sadness, but is overjoyed to hear Tear say that she will stay to help because Recette is basically lost without her, and probably will let the shop burn down due to her laziness.

Final Personal Thoughts - Overall, I really like Recette. I have a soft spot for the endless optimist, and especially for one who tempers it with a willingness to do what needs to be done, work hard, and meet their goals. Recette inspires us to never give up, and not let bad circumstances make us bad people. She’s also much more capable then others give her credit for, and even if a bit of an air head, she’s not upset by it, and more than willing to listen to others, and default to their knowledge when she’s out of her depth.  She’s also a cold business woman, and is able to make some buco bucks in quite the short time.

I’m also a big fan of her relationship with Tear, as it’s great to see how they bounce off each other, and temper out the best and worst parts of each others personalities.  I also really like this game, so I hope that if you haven’t played it, and you’re interested in games with female leads, business sims, or just fun, cute games in general, you’ll give it a go.
