Hindu and Jewish women wed in 'UK's first interfaith lesbian marriage'

A Hindu woman and her Jewish soulmate have married in what is believed to be the UK’s first interfaith lesbian wedding.

Kalavati Mistry and Miriam Jefferson met more than 20 years ago on a training course in America, and tied the knot on Saturday in a Hindu ceremony, wearing traditional red-and-white bridal colours.

Ms Mistry, 48, had kept her sexuality a secret for years and said it had been “very difficult for me as an Asian gay woman”.

But her friends and family have been “welcoming and embracing” to Ms Jefferson since she revealed their relationship, she said, adding: “I hope many many gay people - no matter what religion or culture they’re in - are in loving relationships.”

The couple, who both work for an interfaith organisation, married at the Chutney Ivy restaurant in Leicester.

Ms Jefferson revealed they had already had a Jewish wedding in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, earlier this year.

She told Mail Online: “It’s really nice to now have a Hindu wedding here, because it brings both of us together and completes both of us in my eyes.”

The couple will return to live in the US after the wedding.

The world’s oldest cat Nutmeg dies at the ripe old age of 32 (144 in cat years)

Nutmeg was taken to Westway Veterinary Group in Newcastle upon Tyne with breathing difficulties, but vets were unable to save him after he suffered heart failure. His heartbroken owners Liz and Ian Finlay, from Blaydon, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, say the death of their beloved pet has left a massive hole in their lives. The couple adopted Nutmeg after finding him in their garden in 1990. They took him to Cats Protection, where vets told them he was at least five, making him 32 when he died. Until his death, he was thought to be the oldest cat in the world, taking the crown of 26-year-old Corduroy, the Guinness World Record holder.

When Kevin met Mini, excerpt from The Mail Online, July 4, 2009

When a softly-spoken American walked into Battersea Dogs Home, no one could blame the rehoming officer for not knowing who he was.

An ordinary-looking man, middle-aged, with receding hair and brown eyes, the only thing that might have given him away was his expensive suit - not that Jade noticed things like that. She’d be more likely to notice, with approval, dog hair on people’s clothes.

Jade began the interview. ‘What is your occupation?’ she asked. 'Oh, I’m an actor,’ he said.

'Are you aware of the financial costs involved in keeping a dog? Feeding, vaccinations, pet insurance, boarding kennels, flea treatment and worming? Do you feel you are able to meet the costs for the duration
of the dog’s life?’ she asked.

He felt he would be able to. Jade identified him as a genuine dog lover with a good dog-owning history. She went to get the little black mongrel he had chosen.

I walked past the meeting room, glancing through the door. I did a double take.

'Is that your customer in there?’ I asked Jade when she returned with a wriggly puppy in her arms.

'Yes. Terribly nice man.’

'But is he Kevin Spacey?’ I asked.

'Who?’ Jade said.

'She returned to the interview room and gently placed the dog on the floor. The actor immediately knelt down and put his hand out for the dog to sniff.

Within two leaps the dog was on top of him, her tail wagging furiously, her tongue in his ears. He was enchanted, and reciprocated by throwing himself on the floor, the two of them cavorting like old pals.

'It was as if Kenneth Branagh’s pet had turned into an Exocet missile… She jumped about like a kangaroo on crack’

I watched in amazement as the American superstar rolled around a filthy floor with a small black mongrel from the streets of London. He was a man after my own heart.

Name: Felix
Age: 18
Country: Sweden

Hello everyone! My name is Felix and I am a Swedish boy who loves reading. Currently reading lots of sci-fi, fantasy and some classics here and there. I love discussing books with other people and hope that I’ll get a chance to broaden my horizons when it comes to literature. Another one of my largest interests is martial arts. I have been practicing karate for about six years now and I find it extremely enjoyable and relaxing. I am also a slave to my music. I listen to a bit of everything from classical to progressive metal. My absolute favorite composer is Mendelssohn.

Other interests would include things like: cats, space, tea, science, anime, manga, programming, gaming, and most other nerdy topics you could think of. I would say that I consider myself really open about everything and an open-minded person and I would love to talk to some new people from all across the globe, so if you are looking for a pen-pal who will discuss pretty much anything and everything, I might be your guy.

Preferences: Age: No preference really, 0 or 120, makes no difference to me.
Gender: Guy, girls, trans, non-binary, agender, and anybody else welcome.
Also it would be nice if you like books, because books are awesome:)

how brilliant is “you will be found”???

It seems like a really straightforward “things will get better” song, but I think it’s actually one of the most complex songs in the show

Two things:

  • “When you’re broken on the ground/You will be found”
    • But, like. Evan WASN’T. No one ever came to carry him. He lay on the ground waiting for someone to find him, and no one ever did.
    • He knows he’s telling a lie. He doesn’t believe his own words at all.
    • What a brilliant way to end Act I!
  • It’s also super ominous. There’s a ghostly reprise of You Will Be Found after Alana posts Connor’s “suicide note” online and the Murphys start getting online hate mail and harassment
    • “You are not alone”
    • “You will be found”
    • These are pretty fucking ominous things to hear when randos from the internet are stalking you, calling you, and digging up all sorts of stuff about your family
    • This is also a pretty fucking ominous thing to hear when you made up this gigantic lie???? It’s like, you can’t run, you will be found
    • These really hopeful lines turn into something really sinister, a commentary on the dark side of social media

This show is so well-written and beautifully nuanced <3

Also, I do a lot of metas (like this one), so if there are any lines from DEH or Hamilton you’d like me to obnoxiously read into, message me!!!!

Name: Sara
Age: 18
Country: Spain

Hi!

My name is Sara, I’m an 18 year old from Spain and I’ve always loved getting to know strangers from the Internet, so this seems like a great idea!

I recently finished high school, I’m starting university in September, I’ll be studying English Philology. I’m a nerd; I love videogames, books, comics, shows… Fantasy and sci-fy are my favorite genres, and I love poetry. I write stuff, I’m working on a novel right now, and hopefully I’ll get to publish it one day. I’m also really interested in mythology, philosophy and history, and I love dead languages (I’ve studied Latin and Greek). Other interests of mine are astrology, astronomy, animals, memes and bad jokes.

Music is half of my life, my taste is pretty wide, but lately I’ve been really into indie-folk-grungey-stuff (Marika Hackman, Keaton Henson, The Big Moon), but heavy metal? Kpop? Love it!! Bring it on!! I also play the ukulele a little, and I’m a professional singer (in the shower).

I speak Spanish, English and a bit of French. I’m looking for someone to talk about pretty much anything, and hear about your interests even if they aren’t among mine, cause hey, maybe you’ll get me into them, and that would be cool. We can communicate through text, tumblr, emails, letters… It’s up to you!

Preferences: Don’t mind the gender, but preferably someone around my age or older, very open-minded and LGBTQ friendly (cause I’m really gay).

Hello,

My name is Perla or Pearl in English. I’m named after the spherical mass formed inside of an oyster. I’m 21, and I live in the U.S.

My interests include Disney movies, binge watching shows on Netflix, playing Xbox, gushing over Ryan Reynolds, browsing the internet, playing with makeup, photography, and spending too much time on Pinterest. (If there’s even such a thing.)

I would love to find someone who’s interests are similar to mine, but I’m open to just meet new people. I’m not here to find someone to date or anything, I’m in a relationship. However I am here to make friends and get to know people.

I am a really good listener and I enjoy good long conversations. I’m here because sometimes it’s nice to talk to people and make connections from around the world.

Let’s talk.

If you want, you can send me reach me on my here at helloperla.tumblr.com or you can DM me on instagram or tweet me, my username is the same as my Tumblr.

My name is Tyler and I currently reside in Portland, OR. I am looking for a pen pal where we can be open with each other, resulting in a close friendship. I am trying this because I have depression and it tends to limit me from making friends in real life. You will often find me nose deep in a book because I LOVE to read. I also love music, my favorite genre being 1990’s alternative.

Preferences: Preferably someone close to my age, but I am open to any age and gender.
